BOG today. After a slow start to the season, he's worked into ripping form and will surely be All Australian this year. What a brilliant small defender he's been the past few years!

Apparently struggled with knee tendinitis at the start of the year. I swear he always looks like he’s about to fall apart physically when the ball is not near him. Then somehow magically is the most sublime beast on the field.

Love Jets!

Amazing game yesterday. The human wall.

To me, Nev is the epitome of the perfect ALF AFL footballer ie. he gives everything of himself for the team.  He must be an absolute dream to coach.

One of the best individual games I have seen.

All game I couldn’t stop myself yelling out “you’re a star nev”

Absolutely. When he's in full flight he's a joy to watch and he was unbelievable yesterday.  Some of the things he does for a bloke his size are unreal. We are blessed to have him running around in the red and blue.

Agree wholeheartedly. It is not the size that concerns everyone, it is his heart !!!!   To come back as well as he has after his start to his career says a lot about the bloke. Well done .

He was in the AA squad of 40 last season. Hes well and truly on the selectors radar.

Hes gone to another level.    This can only end one way.

No votes at all from Naff Brown on the footy show. Ridiculous

What a turd pit of a show that is. Not worth watching.

Listening to 3AW football commentators just now. They are unequivocally convinced that Jetta is the standout All-Australian back pocket! ?

That was one of, if not the best, games from a small defender at Melbourne that I've seen.

He kept us in the game early when the Dogs were on top. It was a critical period as if they had kicked 5-6 goals it could've really changed the game. But time and again he was not only in the right spot but won the contest to restrict them to just 3 goals. A few late goals by us had us right in the game at quarter time despite not playing great footy early.

And then, even after that, he just got better and better. Winning marking contests from every position - in front, from behind and from the side; positioning himself perfectly; winning ground ball contests; nudging his man out of position and then using the ball with poise and precision each time. It was just a magnificent display of defending - concentration, commitment and confidence.

The Dogs had 51 inside 50s, more than we have faced in a while. Yes, their forward line is weak, but that shouldn't take away from his significant contribution to conceding just 7 goals from those inside 50s.

An absolutely clear BOG for mine.

Great stuff Neville.  Team first as always!

Jetta embraces Indigenous round

I used to think we had been dudded & Leroy & Lewis were easily the 2 best Jettas but Nev has proved me wrong & gone past both of them.  His peripheral vision and ability to deliver the ball cleanly & to advantage are second to none.

Watching him up close (from behind the goals, not on the ground!) on Saturday, Jetta's ability to 'out manoeuvre' his opponent at the point of the ball arrival is outstanding. And all without getting a free against him. I thought he was BOG. His team mates must love him. What a star.

The guy's a genius and one of the better football stories going around. Well done, Nev!

Great article on Jetta. Who would have thought in 2009 that he and Jones would be the only players left on the list of 2018.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
