The Pies are ahead on the Clark-Lumumba-Varcoe deal. Varcoe was great in the first half yesterday and has been much better for them than I thought he'd be. Heritier hasn't set the world on fire but been pretty handy and better than Clark

Maybe in a measure of statistical impact but i think that Lamumba had been more important for us than Varcoe could have been, offering line breaking run off half back.

I know he sometimes runs in a circle but i put that down to other players not being in position. And his unbridled attack means that we are looking to break lines and run forward off half back, where we have been particularly hesitant over the past years.

In short, he had been a particularly valuable addition to Melbourne.
