Round 17 - Non MFC Games

Over the past 2 seasons our attendances have been impressive. Us and Richmond seem to have the best group of supporters. Even the amount of Hawks supporters on Friday night seemed suspiciously low, given their 95,000 members or whatever. Must be bored with winning.

Hawthorn have a stack of members who only exist because they are repeat reigning premiers. They aren't real Hawthorn fans, they're hardly AFL fans. That's why their crowds are so low - they don't have a large contingent of rusted-on, die hard supporters like Richmond and Collingwood do.

Picket stop being a tool, wines plays for port, has done for three years, might be time to get over it.

and is reported PA will go steady in dealing for a new contract. Id be jumping as quick as Flynn if there was even the remotest chance of guiding him back home .We missed our first chance to snare him..Id try again

Essendon's supporter base must be fast giving up on them... 23,000 is the lowest crowd they have ever attracted to the MCG (by approx 3,000).

If they still drew 23,000 to the MCG while they were playing at Etihad, their supporter base must still be alright.

Travis Varcoe kicks a beauty. I can't believe I am going to say this as I didn't rate him one bit, but Collingwood are getting the most return from that 3 way trade so far. He has had a very good year.

Ben Kennedy looks out of his depth at AFL level. Remember when many people on here wanted us to consider taking him with pick 4?

Nope. I remember a few of us wanted to pick him up with whatever pick we traded for Dawes.

It shows you how brilliant our supporter base is and exposes the fair weather supporter bases of these 'bigger' clubs.

Carlton couldn't notch 25,000 fans last night and Essendon struggle to get 23,000 tonight. Carlton won a flag in 1995 and played finals a couple of years ago. Essendon won the flag in 2000 and played in finals recently. Melbourne won the flag in 1964 and last played in a final 9 years ago, having been through the ugliest decade of football in certainly AFL history and rivalling anything witnessed during the VFL era as well. Yet, we still get 25,000 against interstate sides in poor time slots, with poor weather. Makes me proud to be a Demon.

Our supporter base has copped a lot of unfair criticism over the journey, but we are one of the most vocal and steadfast supporter bases in the league, despite being a relatively small one - at least in terms of attendances and membership.

In conclusion, it is great to see Carlton and Essendon in the wilderness. I hope it continues for the next 20 years.

A day's a long time in football. :P Couldn't be more embarrassed of my club and we managed only 23,000 today (admittedly outside in the rain, rather than Etihad).

Swans are on a slippery slope:

52 pt loss to WC

89 pt loss to Hawks

21 pt ordinary win vs Lions

10 pt win vs Port

18 pt loss to Richmond

Only 3 teams in race for premiership now and 4th spot on the ladder is now up for grabs.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
