Did Michie play?

I went down and had a look today.

Fitzy was excellent at CHB. Lots of intercept marks and used the ball well

JKH really good in patches. Played mostly in the middle. Kicked 2.3 - Casey's classiest

Harmes impressed me. First time I've seen him live this year. Played a good inside game. Continues good form

Jamar was dominant. Excellent second half particularly. Pity the midfield didn't take advantage of the service.

King. Tougher day this week for Max. Was number 1 forward so had their best back all day. always had 2 or 3 other defenders hanging off him when the ball was in the air. Never dropped his head, kicked a goal in the last and was serviceable in the ruck.

Terlich and Mitchie both just had games. Both got a bit of it without ever really influencing the game.

McDonald and White both showed glimpses competing well down back.

Should be playing tomorrow ahead of Dawes or Spencer

Not sure. He is being set up as a KPD, so not sure how having him as a lead-up forward or ruck works.

What is seemingly more bizarre about the Development league, there are 8 teams in the competition yet rds 1,3,9 and 11 so far only 6 teams play. The VFL start their comp on the 17 th April, the WAFL starts on 20 th March (8 teams ,all play each other 3x's),the SANFL

starts on 2nd April and the NEAFL on the the 11th April. Why does Casey have a bye when the seniors are still playing, there are 5 non AFL affliated sides, doing the maths the stronger affliated sides may need to have a bye whilst their senior counterparts are required to

play. Perhaps football acadamies might improve the development league. Personally I think the MFC should get rid of Casey,we seemed to be better off when we were linked to Sandringham, however going alone would be better still. The VFL should start a week earlier

than than AFL because one team would have a bye due to an odd number of teams. Twice this year the Casey Scorpion players were dormant when the Seniors were in combat, perhaps it may have been 3 times. Doesn't help the selectors cause!!!!

Interesting - one more scoring shot in a 20 point loss

Good to see JKH and Giraffe in the listed better players

Who were the betters in our correspondents' opinions?

No he shouldn't he is not up to it! 22 games in 6 years is a paltry return!!

In fact he is a poor mans "Juice"

Ungainly, injury prone, and not enough tricks for mine!.. Unless you count the tunnel ball effort as part of his arsenal!

Has it really been six years? He has shown quite a bit at times and I think he'll be safe on the list for a little while longer considering the quality of our big man stocks, but that is a long time for not many games.

'Poor mans Juice Newton'... couldn't think of many worse insults to a player.

Go and have a look at the comparative stats at the AFL sites and many would be surprised!

Juice Newton trumps Fitzy hands down in nearly all areas

Sobering!

Who cares? Stats are irrelevant

Fitzy just claimed the scalps of Tom Boyd and Jesse White and was looking at home as a tall defender

He should be in the team

I've noticed Fitzy, Newton and Michie are all hard done by at selection this year. One foot wrong and they're out

So did you decide that before or after hekept Tom Boyd and Jesse White goaless with Boyd only having 1 handball and White only 2 marks?

For what it's worth, i don't think Fitz will be on the list next year. Think he'll be traded.

Gremlins in the form of a server outage affected our coverage of the Casey game yesterday but our man on the spot Ice Station compiled this report with the help of KC.

FOOL'S GOALED by Ice Station

The Casey Scorpions travelled to Eureka Stadium in search of gold but returned with nothing because they failed in the basic test of football - kicking for goal.

The tone for the game between the Scorpions and North Ballarat was set by the end of the first quarter when the visiting team dominated play but, by virtue of its inaccuracy, trailed by a point. The Roosters goaled with all three shots at goal and the Scorpions were only successful with only two of seven, both to busy small man Jay Kennedy-Harris.

And so the pattern continued for the rest of the game. The Roosters certainly had the better of the second quarter but, after half time, they kicked five straight goals to three goals six meaning they had stretched their lead at the main break by another goal to win by twenty points.

The winners kicked straight but for Casey it was as they say in the classics, a case of "bad kicking is bad football" and one that got away after winning some close tussles in recent weeks.

Thanks to the long run of injuries, Casey had only nine AFL players at its disposal including three rookies. They were fortunate to have Mark Jamar who dominated the ruck contests against two inexperienced big men from the country side but, after a few good outings at this level, must surely have written a ticket back into the AFL with that game. Kennedy-Harris showed out with his class at times and rookie James Harmes did some nice things but the Casey midfield really failed to take advantage of the Russian's domination in the ruck.

The Casey defence worked hard, led by skipper Evan Panozza. He was well backed up by key defenders Jack Fitzpatrick who marked everything at centre half back and local lad Oscar McDonald who is no stranger to Eureka Stadium. Bryce Rutherford, co-opted from the development league team, was handy on the day.

The defeat was a big blow to Casey which remains in the middle of a big field of final contenders and could ill afford to lose a game to a team that had previously lost four in a row.

The team has a bye next weekend.

I agree. There seems to be one criteria for some and another for the rest. I wonder what effect it has on their confidence when they get recalled. As others have said they need to be given a few games in a row instead of being yoyo'd in and out. But that's why I am not a selector.

Its interesting that Hogans Heroes says stats are irrelevant yet they are often quoted as to why players should be dropped. I actually agree that stats are not the be all and end all as they can be made to say anything. There are lies, lies and dammed statistics.

Posted

I think it's time to have a look at Harmes at AFL level before decisions are made on his and others futures.

Seems to take instruction and is doing what the coaches want...in a bit of form.

Fitzy 27 touches and 10 marks, nice.

If JKH has another big game this coming weekend he will deserve a call up vs West Coast, but at who's expense?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
