I think most supporters will lose interest for the foreseeable future if we drop this game:-

In - Dom Tyson, Jack Grimes

Out - Aaron vandenBerg (injured) , Matt Jones

What is the issue with vandenBerg? I know he was subbed off injured, but I never heard what the issue was. Hopefully he pulls up ok, and also Viney who looked to reinjure his leg.

Tyson coming back in next week, hopefully fully over his injury, is a huge in for us.

ANB also a big chance to debut.

I'd be taking a good look at both Toumpas and Fitzpatrick.

May have done some good things but both liabilities when either under pressure or if the oposition has the ball.

Then you'd be taking a good look at the wrong people (and for the wrong reasons).

Don't focus on the junior players (coincidentally, Toumpas played alright today, you only see the mistakes but he was one of about 18 players to make bad mistakes). Focus on the senior players who are continually letting us down instead.

Out: Fitzy, Vanders (injury pending)

In: Grimes, Tyson

I love Fitzy but I always thought we were one tall too heavy before the game. Shame about Vanders, hopefully he's able to return straight after the bye. Grimes and Tyson both probably should've played today.

Out: Jones, vandenBerg, Toumpas, Riley and Newton.

In: Tyson, Grimes and the rest is changing deck chairs but I would honestly have McKenzie before Toumpas or Newton.

OUTS

Fitz, Toumpas, M Jones, Vanders( inj)

INS

Tyson, Dawes, A N Bullen (to debut)

Also in mix Grimes

The only reason I would drop Fitzpatrick would be for team balance. Need him as a second ruck (Grimes as an alternative)

Maybe Matt Jones for Tyson.

Dawes for Pederson (but reluctantly) Maybe after the bye.

Toumpas needs a few games to get into the tempo. His disposal is getting better.

The game gets slower , the more confident you get (See Pendelbury)

We must have a really good side if Grimes cannot get a game.

And someone said during the week we would make 5-6 list changes at seasons end. We will make 11 again, the most allowed per year.

I did not relaise there was a limit Al.

Why anyone know?

How are we dropping Toumpas? How?????

Vanders will miss and hopefully that is the only change we will need to make (for Tyson).

St Kilda go tall in the backline so Fitzy will stay.

Not a big M Jones fan but sub awaits him again

There was a moment from Toumpas which summed him up for me. He took a mark on the half back flank, was ten metres in the clear and before even turning around to look down the ground he handpassed the ball backwards to Gawn who then turned it over. He just has no attacking instinct and still panics too much, I'm sure his stats look fine but that's about it.

I think development takes precedence, at a club where confidence is in short supply to aid kids to develop well... play the kids in the winnable games, so they can get some mojo going.

If we want to make good list decisions come seasons end, we have to give the kids a chopout. play them in this Saints game, help them get some confidence &

hunger going, & rest them in the big matches, except for the competative beasts like young Jesse.

Fitzy made a mistake in the goal square, but he was in the right spot, just made a simple instinctive error. one which he won't repeat again, now having it happen to hi.

but he did a great job, body wise out-positioning Pendlebury, up forward for that mark, right place again, right decision... how long has Fitzy been a defender??? how many weeks.

That's a fair criticism. He has always looked for safe options, but even more so the last year or two. I think he well and truly stays in the team, but I would be telling him to back himself more.

I think it's more football smarts, Brayshaw has them in spades. Toumpas, not so much.

To the people saying drop Toumpas, yes he made a few poor decisions, but overall he actually had a decent game.
He had 21 disposals, 8 contested, 80% efficiency, 5 score involvements, 4 clearances, 3 rebound 50s and 4 tackles. They're decent stats, and he was far from our worst today. We need to let him gain more confidence and build on these games. He's already showing a bit this year. Dropping him would be yet another poor selection decision. I'm sick of him being a scape goat on this site.

Statts are one thing what you do with them is another.

His only saving grace is there is no one unijured at Casey who is better.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. Firstly the bad news - McVee went down late, which does look like a bad hammy - towards the end of match sim, as he kicked the ball. Had to

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
