This is the list of the free agents at seasons end. If we are chasing a gun midfielder, there isn't alot on offer from that list. Well that haven't signed already. I would have said Jack Steven but he resigned earlier this year.

If we were inclined to throw bags of money at someone I hope it would be Dylan Shiel

Does anyone think Ty Vickery could be a pure ruckman?

yes, I do.

Ty was an excellent follower styled ruck in the U-18's

.... IMO now he seems to be maturing & gaining in confidence, he can further develop into that senior ruckman follower.

Thanks machsy, didn't really know much about him besides he's a big unit, really think a good ruckman should be close to the top of our priorities

I can see why you want to sort our ruck stocks, mate, but midfield has to be the priority. It's still a C grade one at best. We need mids. Edited by AdamFarr

I just think our mid will improve with natural progression, add Viney, Salem a fit Trengove and petracca in there with another pre season and it might be a totally different midfield

Jones, vince, lamumba, cross, Viney, Trengove, Tyson, Salem, Toumpas, stretch, petracca, vandenberg,

There is some talent there, just need guys like Trengove and Toumpas to capture some good form

Would love to add Dylan Shiel, Mathew leuenberger, Scott Selwood and Charlie Dixon to the list over the off season.

You missed Brayshaw from your midfield.

I know it's very early, but it's already apparent that we're lacking in certain areas. Most notably in my opinion the ruck, midfield depth, run from half back and spread in general. So i thought i'd start this thread to list certain targets for areas i think need to be addressed.

RUCK

Daniel Gorringe: Down the pecking order at GC who have internal issues. Wanted out last year but was shafted by Port and the Crows now have Jacobs and Lowden. Was an early draft pick and could come on like Longer has at the Saints.

Cost - Possibly something like Toumpas to Crows with their 2nd round pick to GC?

Matthew Leunberger: Dominant ruckman when fit but is injury plauged. Fallen behind Martin as 1st choice ruckman with Lions and may seek more a new home.

Cost - Free agent so cost is zero. Orig from WA so reckon Freo may be in the market for him also with Sandilands not likely to go on forever.

Will Minson: Good aggressive ruckman who is being edged out by Beveridge looking to push Cordy's development. Would only be a stop gap solution for about 2 years max while we develop someone else, but could be useful.

Cost - Is contracted so not sure what we'd have to give up? Bulldogs lack talls at both ends so maybe Fitz or Pedo with a late pick?

Daniel Currie: Dominant state league ruckman who is on North's list and starved of opportunities behind Goldstein and Daw. Could well be worth a look.

Cost - Given the lack of games North have given him, they'd be hard pressed to ask anything more then a 4th round pick.

MIDFIELDER:

Dylan Shiel/Adam Treloar: Obviously there's rumors about these two leaving GWS and would live either one. Both hard at it and spread really well which we need. Would favour Shiel slightly due to his ability to break the lines, but would be wrapt with either.

Cost - Probably something like Howe & our 1st round pick, or possibly given their lack of ruck depth after Mummy we could give them Gawn and our first two picks with a later pick coming back.

James Aish: Looks certain to leave and not sure where we sit in the race for his services. Not a line breaker, but certainly runs hard and will help with our spread. We have a lot of SA kids on the list who would have played with him, so they need to get in his ear.

Cost - Our 1st round pick should do it.

Ben Kennedy

Very talented fast midfielder/forward who has fallen behind some other good kids that Collingwood are putting together. Is small, but can break the lines and use it well. Same as Aish is a SA kid so hopefully that could help?

Cost - Being Collingwood who knows? Maybe if we swap our 1st & 2nd round picks with theirs that could do it? Or maybe Watts and our 2nd round pick?

Dion Prestia

Given Gold Coasts issues it wont hurt asking the question as unlikely as it would be. Brilliant young midfielder who runs hard and will help with spread.

Cost - Given the issues with some of their players they may be after small forwards. Our 1st round pick & Kennedy-Harris could do it.

Andrew Gaff

Question marks over his ability to deal with a tag, but runs hard and very good on the outside which we need.

Cost - 1st round pick and maybe Fitz given their neef for more tall defenders.

RUNNING HALF BACKS:

Zak Jones

Think we made noise in the offseason gone that we'd chase him. Again runs hard and is hard at it. Not sure on what his disposal is like?

Cost - Hard to say? Maybe Grimes and our 2nd round pick?

Nathan Wright

Similar to Zak Jones and can't get a consistant run with Saints. Disposal not brilliant, but works hard and runs fast.

Cost - 3rd or 2nd round pick max!

Interesred to hear what/who others think we should look at?

Good effort young fella and pleasing to see that you actually have realised that we have to give up a fair bit - unlike some posters who think we can trade easily.

Under Roosy the keys are big-bodied midfielders who tackle and have good kicking skills.

He also likes quick players and I suspect he will look for a mobile forward/ruck project this season assuming Jamar retires.

We just have to hope that someone is disenchanted and that generally means they are not playing much, if at all - so the dream lists of gun players at other clubs are just that - dreams.

Having said that I'm sure Roosy would love to get his hands on Dylan Shiel - but there will be a big queue if he doesn't sign up with GWS.

One advantage we have is that Dom and Sam Frost help our chances of getting in the heads of a GWS player.

I also reckon we will be working overtime on delisted free agents and trying to unearth someone like Newton who is out of favour.

Don't be too surprised if we bring in one more veteran as well - someone like Nathan Van Berlo who assumes a bit of the Crossy role.

Our best recruit next year will however be Petracca

The way I see it we have two outcomes come trading time. We are able to lure one of Treloar or Shiel to the Dees and will likely give up our first pick plus Howe for a pick in return.

Or we are unsuccessful of landing one of those two and have to resort to free agency, maybe chase Scott Selwood or a DFA and then use our high pick on another kid.

Fingers crossed we land one of the GWS boys.

We had a massive crack at Scott Selwood the year we got Tyson, west coast refused to deal though, perhaps the same deal is on the table for him if he wants to come as a free agent

I feel like the appointment of McCartney and the way the list is shaping we may well look to the draft anyway

Yeah if we could get Selwood as a FA and another quality young mid draft pick that would be a win.

A good ruckman is a mid 'Adam' and must be a priority. For our midfield to improve we need to be evenly matched and at the moment we are one down as soon as the ball is tapped in the centre bounce.

We are often playing 3 v 4 at centre bounces, 17 v 18 in general play.

Do you know who Ty Vickory is or are you pulling the [censored]?

He's played one senior game this year and had 9 disposals.

Some must drink a lot when posting on here, first of all we have Leuie from Brisbane and then Vickery from Richmond, we have a really good young ruck in King, another pre season into him and he will have a bit more size, Spencer has next year on his contract as well, so he will be playing next year as well, Roos gave it to him, I am so glad nobody on here has any say in the trading or delisting etc

Would Jed Adcock be worth a look? Might be keen for a change of scenery and might not cost too much to get either. Stick him on a back flank and release Salem into the midfield in 2016...?

Salem absolutely loves playing on the half back flank, and he is good there and will get even better, we will have a bigger and stronger Petracca to put into the midfield next year

This post just shows how much we do need a real ruckman since you want us to rely on Jake Spencer and a raw, unproven Max King

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm
