Spot on TK

Everyone seems to forget how bad the list was at the end of 2013.

We would have struggle to win the VFL flag.

It is only two trading periods past that point

IMO we still have 12 -14 changes to go before we are a middle rung team.

12-14 changes OD, really that many? always respect your opinion but can't see us making that many changes, given the turnover in last 2 years, reckon 5 or 6 at best, will still need to have a full list start of 2016. but interesting days ahead.

Can you name a list that was as poorly managed and as weak as ours that on was 2 wins and with a percentage 55% that improved quicker than we have in an 18 month period???

We're currently on 3 wins and 70% (In Roos' second year). I didn't say we haven't improved, I just said I expected more by this stage.

Wouldn't put PR and PJ in the same basket, completely different roles.

PJ has smashed it out of the park, Roos seems to be struggling to make as much of an impact as what we need. Plenty of other teams have been able to improve at a faster rate without turning over as much of their list so quickly.

Roos hasn't improved the serial underperformers on the list (Senior leaders )who are still getting away with poor application poor skills and poor attitude

It is something to note that Watts hasn't improved and Howe has gone backwards under Roos.

12-14 changes to the list. Last Saturday sealed

It for me. A stack of players on our list will not improve, no matter who is coach.

I can't see Kent being traded.

No issues with anyone else on the list, other than Jones of course.

I'd hate to see him traded as well, but you heard Roosy, footy is a ruthless industry and if Kent gets us something worthwhile (e.g. a Luke Shuey) in a package deal with picks we'd be pretty dumb not to do it.

Kent is best 22

Salem is best 22

JKH is best 22

Tyson is best 22

Dawes when fit is best 22

Petracca will be best 22 when he comes in

Trengove is worth another shot.

Matt Jones , Mckenzie , Jamar and Bail, possibly Michie have their papers stamped already.

The hard calls are Watts, Howe and Grimes, who typify our problems with lack of leadership and consistency.

One or all may be traded end of year if they don't show some real grit.

I get the feeling that the next four weeks will make or break careers.

Good summary.

100% agree WYL - other sides keep flying past us year after year. There is only one thing I am convinced of - there are 10 or more on our list who are getting games of football at the highest level that are spuds and incapable of improvement.

It amazes me that Brayshaw in his first year shows more on and off the field than these 10 or more culprits who have been playing AFL for 5 years or more....it's disgusting and an indictment on those individuals and the club for keeping them too long.

Maybe Roos is now showing his real side of himself, tried to do the lets teach and learn softly softly approace, and now you had you go now it's my way or else.

I was not suggestion 12 -14 this year Ernest but over the next two draft periods.

My comment was that there were still 14 on the list that were not up to taking use out of the bottom six.

We've been competitive in the three games we've won, and for a quarter or so in the three losses to Adelaide, Port & GWS, none of which is better than a middle of the ladder side at present.

Hmmm do you think so?

:)

Grimes, Watts, Howe will be traded.

All get my tick of approval. Garland is an RFA, but if he goes i wouldn't be too perturbed either. A bit of experience gone no doubt, but a lot of the poor culture gone too. Admittedly not all of it their fault.

Demonland of 2015 really has got this new fascination - other teams 'going past us'.

The Dogs 'went past us' when they beat Sydney. Then we beat them.

St Kilda 'went pas us' when they beat the Dogs. Never mind they lost to Carlton.

Carlton made finals 2009-2011 and 2013. Must have 'gone past us' through those years, right?

Brisbane beat Port a fortnight ago, I guess they 'went past us', whilst Gold Coast nearly made the eight last year, did they 'go past us' last year?

I'm happy to focus on the problems in our backyard, and there are plenty, but ironically one of those problems is our pessimistic, over-the-top focus on losing (players and supporters both guilty). Let's stop the weekly 'X has gone past us, woe is us, we're all doomed, we're all [censored]' and focus on improving our performances (which, despite what some want to say to make things sound more dire, is impacted by our fixture to date).

Getting back to the Watts getting dropped.

I'll put money on Roos calling Watts in. And putting the acid back on him.

"How do you think you are going atm? What you think for your own good, you might be better having a run with Casey? etc etc etc

Go away and have a think about it, then come back and let me what you have decided.

Roos is no fool, he might have decided to drop him, but let Watts make the call.

If a required senior player walked into my office and said "OH btw I want to play with the two's this week." I'd be ringing around to shore up a trade next year.

That would be after totally losing it. Since when do players decide where and when they play?

Then again Roos may have dropped him, and said it was Watts' idea.

I believe Roos dropped Watts and had Watts take responsibility. Good coaching IMO. Watts has the skills but not the intensity, makes him the most frustrating player to watch and probably the most frustrating to coach.

I don't understand why people here so badly want Roos to name the underperforming players, as if that will somehow set a standard?

It's obvious who isn't stepping up. Each is a different player, requires a different approach. It sounds like some posters want Neeld back.

The club direction over the past 18 months has been incredible, the players recruited are proving to be masterful choices.

I get frustrated like the next guy but who can't see a seriously good team emerging from the absolute disaster that we were?

It is something to note that Watts hasn't improved and Howe has gone backwards under Roos.

Weak players unwilling to nail down a position.

Make no mistake, Paul Roos is a legend of the game (on field and in the coaches box) knows exactly what he is doing. Accountability is good, but he will sort it out if people get out of his way.

For Christ sake stop blaming Roos

Half the list is not up to it & never will be.

Not up to it or just $oftcock$? Even ordinary players can put up a contest. See Carlton today.

Same story every year. There is at least one other side that are doing it tough. Problem is they move on after a season or two. They don't like our company.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
