This kid has all the attributes to be a jet. Drafted pick 53 in 2011 by the Hawks but didn't manage a full year of football until last year.

Absolutely terrible luck with injury... two knee recos (I know)... but his upside seems to be huge.

Limited opportunities at Hawthorn (only 2 games) but won the Liston trophy in the VFL last year and just won the Gibbs-Lines medal for best on ground in the Box-Hill vs Coburg game.

His stats:

36 possession (23 contested)

Seven inside 50s

Eight Clearances

A risk with injuries but this guy looks like he has a bright future ahead of him if he can stay on the park. Tough as nails and polished... I would love for the dees to make a play in the off-season.

What do you guys reckon?

(also it's my first post... hello demonland!)

Hello Alex, welcome to Demonland, I shall pass your resumè on to Viney and Taylor.

probably the biggest thing going against him is that he's quite small and is not overly quick.

he's a contested ball winning beast tho. ultimately he'd be in competition with the likes of jones, tyson, viney, newton, michie, riley for an 'inside' role.

in terms of fringe hawthorn players, i'd rather look at james sicily, who has great pace.

I was talking to a guy at work who is a Hawks supporter and he rates him very highly.

They view him as a replacement for Mitchell.

A replacement for Sam Mitchell and the kid has only played two games? I knew Hawthorn supporters liked the crack pipe but jeez...

If he is on the Dorks list I am sure he is a gun. Won a Liston medal I think. He seems to have the attributes required. In any normal circumstance he would leave the Dorks for better opportunities elsewhere but it rarely happens to them. They are all playing for peanuts over there it seems but are happy to stick around even if they can't get a game.

So do a lot of posters on here after Friday night...

Yes, but I think 93dee is saying he would like to play football with Jesse.

Nothing says AFL star of the future like winning the Gibbs-Lines medal.

But in reality:

Established members of our inside midfield brigade - Jones, Tyson and Viney

Flexible options - Vince (could be moved to wing/half back/half forward in the future), Salem

Likely future members - vandenBerg, Bayshaw and Petracca

Possibles - Neal-Bullen, Harmes

Still sorting - Newton, Michie, Riley, McKenzie

Woodward would (excuse the tongue twister) be a strong addition to the list as at minimum a good depth player, but in terms of inside mids I think we should work with what we have.

I presume Hawthorn or another club would still have interest in his services and therefore we'd have to pay up either a draft pick or salary for him if not both.

I'd rather use resources on talls (rucks or either end) and some more outside run and skill.

Bloke is a jet! I was hoping we'd draft him but we took Tynan 1 pick before.

He's a ball magnet, hard as a cats head and has decent skills. There's too many similar types at Hawthorn and would be a walk up start with us IMO.

Two knee reco's is admittedly a worry

Posted

Serious..

Won a Liston while the cats were going well.

Where is he now?

Woodward has won a Liston while the Hawks are going well.

Where is he headed?

It's not that fu****g hard.

At this stage we should be looking for a good mobile ruckman and a couple of quick mid/hb types with good disposal.

I don't think Woodward is either.

Never worked out how to post links but on the AFL they have a story about the international draft combine. Standing at 201cm Jalen Carethers has almost broken the 20 metre sprint at 2.79 seconds. Looks quite athletic and ready to play. A year at Casy.....

A super fast ruck with Frost running around as well would scare a few teams I would reckon 'Al'. If he could play or learn the caper like Mike Pike it might he might be interesting to look at.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
