Training - Tuesday 7 April, 2015

Recommended Posts

For Wiseblood

One of the kicking drills involved a kick out from a point, with the players practicing their running patterns to create space

Another was a cross field kick to a player who then feigned a kick inside and kicked down the line

Another drill involved more attackers than defenders, with players taking turns, the idea was to take the correct option and to wave run

Another drill involved body to body work, mainly amongst the big guys, although they did have Watts matched up against Dawes

McCartney was again working with ANB, have Toumpas knock him around one on one so he gains even more confidence in his knee

Cheers mate, that's what we come here for.

But that is what he did with both Salem and JKH, but who knows

What I mean is that he doesn't need to "manage" him after round 1 of the season. JKH played the first 12 rounds last year and when Salem got his chance he played 10 straight. If Brayshaw doesn't play round 2, and I believe he will, it won 't be because he's being "managed".

After being at the G on Saturday and enjoying it, took footy free couple of days

No shows today, Trengove, Petracca, Hunt and Nathan Jones

Light duties Viney, Watts, Howe, Tom McDonald, no major issues, just management and Jetta (who had a bit of issue with concussion after the game)

Ball movement and stoppages still the focus

Spoke to quite a few of the players, as expected all up and about but there is a steely resolve to back up at the weekend

Complimented Jeff Garlett on his game, got the usual "just playing my role", asked about the Watts tap back, said there was no call, just two players playing on instinct, said he enjoyed his time in the midfield

Chris Salem said it was a very good weekend, said his kick for goal couldn't have come of his foot any better (Arsenal beat Liverpool 4-1)

Asked Aaron Vandenberg how easy AFL was, said his body said it wasn't

Chris Dawes is looking like a caged bear, if he gets the run, would not like to be first GWS defender who gets in his way

Bernie Vince got through whole Casey game unscathed and is cherry ripe, I asked

Should make Thursday's training interesting

Pics will be on Twitter Demonpk

Any questions feel free

And people on here are actually saying that he shouldn't play. spare me. We need to brutalise GWS this week, they are a tough team, and we need to throw it back at them.

Cut and thrust of informed debate is OK, but after such a great day on Saturday, there is no need for sniping. That said, I can't remember the last time we had the luxury of debating who should be in and who should be dropped for round 2, from such a substantial and available list. For that alone, I am grateful.

Go Dees.

Cheers mate,

I too enjoy reading those sort of training reports as it gives me an insight into what they do during training.

Thursday's selection is going to be interesting.

Normally I am not flying solo at training, I find the drill reporting a bit boring, but if I fly solo, willl make sure I put something

As for Brayshaw, I thought he did ok and would be stiff to be omitted, but was thinking out loud about who Dawes and Vince replace, think the Toumps is easy, but thought hit them big in the first 3/4 then bring JKH on, in last quarter, could easily be Brayshaw or Vandenberg as sub, but that is stiff on JKH then, nice positon to be in though

We have had many years of half luxury - After round one, having a very easy debate on who should be out.

Great sign that Hogans back troubles are behind him if he pulled up well and was able to train fully after his first AFL hit out

He gets a quick massage out on the ground before he starts training every time, must be part of the routine, was bouncing around at training, got the usual arm breaking handshake when I congratulated him on his debut

Think even he was unsure as to whether he could cut it at AFL level, got better as they game went on, think we will see a step up this weekend

In Roos presser this morning, was talking about managing Brayshaw, my opinion Brayshaw and Toumpas for Dawes and Vince with JKH as the sub

I think that's not a bad choice TDI (I don't really want JKH or Kent to be dropped). Brayshaw can get a couple full games at Casey however does leave us with some tall timber (Frost probably the black sheep)

Which group did Frost train with?

Was thinking more that Vandenberg has had a taste and can rotate through the midfield with his bigger mature body, hadn't thought of Frost being the one to give way, unless they want to risk Hogan in the ruck, may get Watts to do it. Think i will give up and leave it to match committee. Frost didn't train with any specific group as they didn't break into groups, will be interesting to see what happens Thursday

They have been training all summer on running patterns. Shouldn't be a problem

Becomes a problem when you have opposition but I get your point.

So can we expect Dawes to be missing rounds 3 and 4 through suspension?

I want to see toughness like the way Vandenberg ran in off the wing and collected the Suns player and the ball. Or Brayshaw sitting under the ball with 2 opponents to take that mark. Dawes' cheap shots last year that earned suspensions are not tough.

Here is another bit for those that like 'fluff' and maybe the new mindset

Myself and another watcher saw Watts before the training started, asked whether that was his best game, said if he hadn't fluffed a couple of kicks it would have been an ok game, but certainly not his best

Interesting...

The better we get the more you will get out of an 'ok' game from Watts.

you are a dead set imbecile if you think by "brutalise" i mean punch and be dirty.

I suggest that you look up a dictionary then, because the term "brutalise" is redundant in modern AFL football. Just because he has a big frame doesn't mean the Dawes offers any additional toughness to the side. I've never seen an opposition player be petrified by Dawes' mere presence on the field.

You actually have no idea. wow. He regularly throws his weight around, bumping, harassing, yapping etc. Have you actually watched him play?

Yes he has done some dirty things, but to say that the opposition wouldn't fear him if they see him coming, OR standing in front to block etc. is just so so dumb.

I'm shocked by how stupid you are. You CLEARLY have never seen him play, so here you go:

You write like a 12 year old with angst because he's had a sh#tty school holiday, so I won't bother responding anymore.

Seeing this reminds me of how much weight he has lost this year. Much slimmer.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
