I seem to remember a Friday night game against Geelong in the rain about 6 or 7 years ago and us getting done by the regulation 100+ points of the era. Since then I don't think we've had them back there.

If we start improving, and all signs are good, then lets see what happens. A home and away game for each club is the only FAIR way to do it but a level playing field is turning more and more into a fairytale these days.

We did play them at the G last year.

We get a good run with interstate games (away) this year. I think a little due to the selling of games but also part of that trade off is the game in Geelong.

It might be harder to win but I'd rather the Geelong game than an interstate trip. To be the best you have to beat the best and the narrow and long ground makes it a super tough ask for travelling teams.

We don't travel much because we cop all the interstate clubs as home games that we struggle to make money off. We only get home games against Carlton, Essendon and Geelong every 5 years, haven't played Richmond as the home team for 3 years now. It's a joke.

I think we are a good chance against them down there this year. I don't care where we play so long as we win.

It's a pain in the ass that's for sure. Here's hoping we go down there and beat them for once. Would love to see Dunny line up on Mitch and just niggle him all day until he is forced to listen to Grand Old Flag the sook!

I guess one way of looking at it is this: If there was justice and we played every 2nd game against them at the G, it would really just mean that another game vs team 'x' would be somewhere away from the G - we also have a quota of sorts for MCG games. Therefore, every time they deny us a fixture against GFC at the MCG, it is somehow compensated for by a home game against someone else that we would not have had otherwise. I don't know if that makes sense but I think it does.

It's not unfair.

If we had 100,000 members and filled the MCG each week we would have the same advantage.

If the MFC can win in Adelaide at that Feral Couldron we can win down there

It is all above the shoulders and how much we actually want to win.

If we keep saying it's unfair then we will probably keep the fixture for years.

18 clubs does not fit happily into 22 weeks

Can someone please fill me in on how you go about getting tix for melb v geelong? Yet to head to Kardinia but me and few mates are going trek down this year.. It looks pretty incestuous down at the cattery and seems most people book seats as it's usually chockas and there aren't many tix available for opposition supporters . How do u go about sitting in the Melbourne contingent? Just buy tix early?

Not forgetting our major sponsor is the AFL.

Don't think the big four or five Vic clubs have played at the cattery this millennium!

It purely comes down to crowd numbers. The cats request to play the big clubs at the G or Docklands so they make more money. If we had consistently bigger crowds we may become one of these teams and stop having to play in Geelong. Just another example of economics skewing the fairness and integrity of the game!

That's it in a nutshell. They need to face some victorian clubs down there, they can't be high drawing. That's unfortunately us.

It would be nice if we got some more home games against them but it'd also be nice if we had the home games at the G against the likes of Richmond, Hawthorn, Essendon, and Carlton (the latter two especially since the G isn't their bloody home!). There are plenty of things for people to get frustrated with when it comes to the fixture, it's what happens when you don't play each team home and away.

uuuuuuuuuum no, because all sides play much more often at the G and therefore it less of an advantage. Hawthorn, Richmond and Collingwood spring to mind. FFS you are the one who pointed out the ground has unique dimensions which favour the cats. Even if we had 100,000 members we would still be splitting the crowd support with our opponent which doesn't happen at Geelong. Use your head.
