6. Chris Dawes
7. Jack Viney

22. Viv Michie
23. Bernie Vince
24. Jay Kennedy-Harris
25. Tom McDonald
26. Christian Petracca

27. Aidan Riley
28. Oscar McDonald
29. Jayden Hunt
30. Alex Neal-Bullen

31. Jack Grimes
36. Jeff Garlett
37. Aaron vandenBerg ®
38. Jeremy Howe
39. Neville Jetta
40. Mark Jamar

42. Jake Spencer
43. James Harmes ®
44. Rohan Bail

I have crossed out the players who have been named for the Suns game, the 4 players currently on the injured list and Chris Dawes (suspended). That leaves 17 available.

One player will probably also be held back as an emergency (my tip: Jack Grimes).

I hope not. It would defeat the purpose of giving him a chance to regain some old form and enjoy a kick.

Unless they keep him back specifically for Jeremy Howe (i.e HBF role) then I would hope they keep Matt Jones back. He won't improve from a game in the VFL and he had better positional versatility than Grimes at AFL level, which makes sense for an emergency.

So AFL players for us: Gawn, McKenzie, Stretch, Pedersen, Michie, Vince, Riley, McDonald, Grimes, White, Spencer, Harmes, Bail, Jones, Terlich, King, Fitzpatrick

For Coll: Dwyer, Kennedy, Marsh, Freeman, Armstrong, Broomhead, Moore, Karnezis, Maynard, Goodyear, Manteit, Seedsman, Abbott, Gault, Cox

So 15 for them but they'll probably pull 2 out to get to 13 (I suspect Gault and either Karnezis or Kennedy as travelling emergencies). Worth watching Kennedy, Freeman, Broomhead as highly drafted kids from 1-2 years ago who have AFL talent. Karnezis and Seedsman have AFL talent as well. Darcy Moore's worth watching, hopefully if he becomes a good player for the Pies he eventually comes over to the Dees!

17 for us if everyone's fit but we'll probably take 1 emergency (Matt Jones the logical choice) out and who knows if everyone else is fit or not

What I want to see:

- Gawn and Pedersen dominate against inexperienced key defenders

- Vince get through a full/close to a full game without issue

- A little excitement from Billy Stretch

- Jack Grimes looking composed with the ball and aggressive without it

- Michie spreading and running and attacking the game away from the contest

Wonder why Pedo is on the back burner this year? All things being equal he would be the pinch hitting forward- ruckman for round 1. He was ticking all boxes last year until he was legally Karate chopped across the face against Brisbane last season when he wasn't looking. Thank God the head is sacrisanct in the AFL I say or he could have done time for head butting Merret's forearm.

Dawes said in a NAB cup interview that he was going to play in this game.

Is there anywhere apart from Demonland where we can follow the game?

Olympic Park.

Apart from being there as I will be lunching at the "G" from midday.

Handy. Is that allowed because this is a practice match?

That's a pretty funny loop hole.

Nasher, this is the AFL where loop holes abound.

Suspended players IMO shouldn't be allowed to play games while serving suspensions but because of the fact that carry over suspensions from a previous season meant that players could serve them during NAB Cup games, the AFL changed the rules to make these sanctions applicable to the next official home and away game. Therefore, practice matches are excluded.

If the VFL game was an official match, Dawes wouldn't be permitted to play.

You can try this LIVE: Follow the VFL.

VFL: Saturday's practice match

AFL emergencies Corey Gault, Patrick Karnezis and Ben Kennedy will join the likes of Sam Dwyer, Paul Seedsman and Tim Broomhead as they seek to press their claims for higher honours.

Top draftees Nathan Freeman (selection No. 10 in the 2013 National Draft) and Darcy Moore (selection No. 9 in the 2014 National Draft) will link up with several other untried youngsters including recruits Brayden Maynard, Matthew Goodyear, Michael Manteit, Brenden Abbott and Mason Cox.

he played in the nab challenge

as jack said just banned for one home and away afl game

Yes, but as it is not a VFL H&A game, he can still play in the VFL. The rules as they are mean Victorian players can play in the VFL if serving an AFL suspension in round 1, but if they are AFL suspended round 2 and beyond, they can't. In effect, Dawes doesn't miss any weeks of match practice despite being rubbed out, but only because he happens to only be suspended for round 1.

It's a bit silly; Dawes should really not be able to play this week. I'm not complaining though, we need him in peak condition when he comes back next week.

Haven't been following the progress of Freeman. Injured last year but still not cracking the 22 at the pies? What's th go?

If he was at the Dees he'd already be written off as a wasted pick I'd say. Should've picked dunstan, Taylor, or crouch! ;-)

I agree. I was more trying to point out that we might not think that same way if he was a dees player. Eg if Salem was in the same psoition as freeman

know what you are saying, nasher (i think)

but it is only a practice match

btw under the new tribunal rules for 2015 he probably wouldn't have got a one match suspension ....win some, lose some,

Would be nice if this match was played as a curtain-raiser at the MCG! Even nicer (for poor sods like me, stuck in Qld), if Foxtel would give their camera crews a good warm up for the main event by televising the curtain-raiser!

(Yeah. I know! I can dream!! LOL)

Just got on the train at Armadale.

Only footy scarf I've seen is red and blue. No GCS scarves to be seen.

We have them outnumbered - a good omen.

Must have been me. I've just arrived at OP (covering for KC - work) and the game started with Jake Spencer miskicking and then Jack Grimes followed suit.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
