As much as we have a lot of inside grunt we do have to remember that Jones only has a few years left... I think Prestia and Viney would play very good with each other.
If we are looking at Gold coast players I would rather go after Aaron Hall and Adam Saad. Hall is very quick and is more of an outsider. Saad would work wonders with Jayden Hunt running off half back. I use to work at Coburg when Saad was playing there and could not believe him and Hartley weren't on an AFL list. Saad at the time had bad decision making but you could see the potential. He creates run and carry but also creates play and gets it moving which for our fast pace attack is what we need.

I love saad's pace but from what i have seen of saad if he doesnt have the ball in hand he is little more than a witches hat I dont think we can add that kind of 1 way player esspecially to play on defence. I could be wrong but im not convinced he is worth investing much in, at this point. Hall I like more but i think we will struggle to get him.

Dion is our best chance and even that would require a hell of an effort, I think they will want to sign Hogan first keeping him should be more important than spending to bring in other talent. Like another poster said GWS has a deeper list with talent who cant get in. Personally I think we should be going at 1 or 2 of them who are after more oppertunities for shrapnel rather than spending alot on 1 player.

I've watched Hall a bit this year. Very ordinary kick and turnover merchant. Just about everything else is great.

Prestia is a gun, and would give us more options than we currently have. With Prestia in our side, we could use Brayshaw and Bernie from half back to give us much better disposal from that area of the ground. I would take Prestia any day of the week for a first rounder, and even throw in our second round for their third. (The way they are playing it wont be too much of a downgrade)

*Red wine talking

Good point on Brayshaw. He played much of his underage career as a half-back flanker. A lot of those skills are on display at AFL level too: strong mark, vision, great one-on-one. If we're able to play him off half back it means that we have depth in the midfield rotations such that we are able to play him back there, like we do with Vince now.

I rate Hall very highly. Can turn the ball over a lot, but provides that outside run we need. But wouldn't be upset if we got Prestia instead.

We made two first round draft selections last year, so technically we don't need to draft in the first round again until the EO2019 draft.

I think you might have your figures wrong there SaberFang. We would be penalised in 2019 for only having used 1 pick within a 4 year period.

2015 = 2 (2)

-------------------------

2016 = 0 (2)

2017 = 0 (2)

2018 = 0 (2)

2019 = 1 (1)

--------------------------

2020 = 1 (2)

We would need to use at least 1 first rounder in 2018 or somehow use 2 in 2019. But your point is the same. We dont have to use a first rounder for a while.

That would also explain why his best football has been running off half back or through the middle of the ground with raking long kicks to advantage. I didn't know this, but Roos would have watched him play there quite a bit. I wonder why he hasn't been tried there.

it's 2 1st round picks in 4 years and the years are rolling

so we are already covered to 2018.

in 2019, the rolling 4 years are 12016,17,18,19  so assuming we use a first round pick in 2019 we need to have used at least one from 2016, 17, 18. can only have one in 2016 if we can trade one in or get one from fa. assuming we don't will need to have 1 in either 2017 or 2018

clear as mud?

Because he never played there when Roosy was watching. Brayshaw was playing as an inside mid/half foward when he was at Sandringham dragons.

Should Prestia be traded for a pick and a player our club may find it difficult to find a player willing to go up there.

Maybe someone not getting a game wil go...can we package up Dunn, Grimes, Dawes...?

Posted

I would be interested in Prestia, but he is not a must have IMO.

On one hand, we are already very well stocked for inside midfielders, with Viney, Oliver, N Jones, Tyson, Brayshaw, Petracca, Trengove, Vandenberg and Neal-Bullen. On the other hand, Prestia is a very good player, albeit he is not back to his best.

I doubt we can afford to go after Hurley and Prestia and I would definitely prefer to land Hurley. I would also prefer Lachie Whitfield over Prestia given I think our list lacks a bit of outside run and class. I would also be looking at Hosking-Elliot as an option, though he is contracted to the end of 2017.

Prestia would be good but in terms of midfielders needs Jäger Bomb Omeara should be number 1 providing his medical checks out good. We have plenty of hard at it mids we need that Pendlebury/Parker type who oozes pace and 1st class  finishing skills!

How about Grimes and Vandenberg? Is that a fair deal?

I would think that if Prestia came to the club in 2017, he would be our 2nd best midfielder immediately (behind Viney? Struggling to justify anyone else) Might be pushed down from that in a few years time, but seriously, if you can get top end talent that makes us better, you attempt to get it done. We have enough releasable assets to bring in a talent like that.

I think Matthews coming out and saying that there should only be one team in Qld is timely. The Suns are a shambles right now and let's look at the reality that the draft concessions were there to give them a leg up so they can achieve some level of success before long - GC17.

GWS may not have the supporters that GC do but they certainly have a stable development program in place.

Prestia to MFC

Swallow to NMFC

O'Meara ?

Gonna be a long slog back for the Suns.

Article gives no indication of his intentions either way. Only states that he's sticking to his original plan of waiting till mid-season. If he then defers contract talks till year end, then he's leaving.

Matthews' comments have to be taken in the context that he still sits on the Brisbane board, does he not? There's a bit of an agenda there.

I'd be worrying about securing our own, before we try to target the likes of Prestia or Hurley.

I don't think we need to worry about that too much this year.  I feel confident we'll re-sign all the players that are crucial to the club going forward.

It seems clear to me that Prestia isn't all that keen to stay at GC beyond this year, and I'm sure we've had some dialogue with his management.  I'd happily pass off an up and coming fringe player (ANB, for example) and a second rounder to get him to the club.

His injury history does worry me slightly, but if he got the all clear then I'm all for it.

True, but I reckon if the Suns were flying you wouldn't hear boo out of him. He's laying the boots because they're on the canvas just about.

Id have thought he'd do well to just STFU at present...... but then Ive always thought his best commentary was when he does STFU !! :rolleyes:

    UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

    Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
