We will not be trading much if any for Prestia. If anyone has to be traded it'll be a player from previous era. We are legitimate club now and hold the power.

Roos has rewarded almost everyone who has bought in and wont trade out any young players.

I wouldn't be so sure, i think it would take a pretty special offer but i doubt they'd be totally untouchable, for example would you trade Christian Salem for Dion Prestia if there was no other option to land Dion?

I don't know Abe ?  How could we go about it ?

Without a decent midfield the rest of the team doesn't matter...

Without Oliver, Viney was hard-tagged leaving Jones (at best) a B+ grader as our best mid. We're going nowhere with that.

Our entire game plan is based around us winning the ball out of the middle more than our opposition does, so we can never have enough quality mids, our Zone is an extremely aggressive method of defending that allows us to be scored against a little more easily but significantly increases our ability to score on the rebound, right now we're struggling in game because our skills aren't good enough to turn those rebounds into goals without making mistakes in transition and our midfield is getting beaten at times, i really like the plan, our execution is poor but we will improve.

I strongly believe in 2 years time Jones, Vince, Tyson, Viney, Brayshaw, Petracca, Oliver, Salem, Vanders, Trengove and hopefully Prestia will be feeding off Gawn and we'll have the best midfield in the game, and we'll have nailed down our ball movement and significantly improved in enough areas to seriously push for a premiership.

We have to be patient, we are a very young team, today we played to many young players, we'll learn from that, I agree, we will have the best midfield in 2-3 years

OK, what are you giving up then?

A 2017 first rounder for Prestia for starters. I'd be willing to trade others for the right price.

2017 is said to be a strong draft. I would rather hold that pick and offload a Kent ANB or Hunt with 2016 and 17 2nd rounders

They claim every year is a super draft these days, but if we want to land Dion second rounders won't cut it, we will need to offer up the 2017 first rounder.

Sheesh, I'm glad your not negotiating on the Dees behalf.

If he's out the door and names us as his preferred destination, I'd hope we'd be offering no more than an early second round pick. At least upfront.

You'd take an early second rounder for Jack Viney? That's the sort of impact they'll feel losing Dion will have on their club.

Well depends if you actually want to get him, the Suns wouldn't accept an early second rounder for an A grade player. they're be stupid if they did.

It's also true that we currently lack 3-4 established high quality players around the 24-27yo mark that have played at least 100 games. Prestia will be that in October. We already have a bunch of very good teenagers, need to balence that with some more mature talent.

Unfortunately a couple of second round picks and a bunch of steak knife players will not seal the deal.

We have to give up a first rounder or a quality player. Being that we don't want to get rid of our talented youth, a first rounder it is. Prestia is obviously worth that. He's a top 10 pick who has more than proven himself being a league leading clearance player and would've won a bnf if he wasn't playing behind Gary Ablett, who was in hall of fame brownlow winning form at the time.

He'd be a great get. You can never have too many quality midfielders as yesterday's game showed. Midfielders win premierships. We also need a key defender such as Hurley though...

Come on, Demi. Prestia is an A grader. You don't get players of his ilk for second rounders.

The last line is the point, we have more pressing needs.

If you could get him for a first rounder, we would do that in a heartbeat, but he will cost more than that. The other issue is how much we are paying him, which would be just as crucial.

Considering we only have Frost and Oscar McDonald developing as key defenders, this needs to be a priority.

In the midfield we have a group players with the potential to become high quality players (Viney, Oliver, Brayshaw, Petracca). We then have a couple the rung below (Tyson and Salem).

The problem is we can't afford to give up any of our quality players. Would have to be our second round pick for 2016 and first round pick for 2017. Still not sure if this would be enough.

If Dion declares us his destination i think when push comes to shove they'll take that deal, but won't be happy about it.

Agree Abe. Well, mostly.

If anything, accepting a first and second rounder for Dion (Considering our likely draft position) would be an easy decision to make as far as the Suns are concerned.

I would actually hope for something back tbh. Maybe their third rounder?  He has to nominate us first, so i guess we just need to wait and see.

We need him more than he needs us, so if it takes a first and second rounder, ..... *shrug. (Pending RFC medical check)

Better than him walking to the draft. His contract is over at the end of the season. Last year was their chance to negotiate.

They gambled on their form convincing him to re-sign. I'd suggest this hasn't played out so well and they'll take a reasonable deal. They may well get a first rounder eventually, but, I wouldn't lead with it. We landed Vince with a second rounder.

Vince was an inconsistent B grader who wasn't in their coach's plans. Prestia is an A grader and vice captain of a club that desperately needs leadership right now. A second rounder will not get this deal done.

i'd agree that dion is an a grader, but i don't think he's been an a grader this year. certanly won't get him for a 2nd rounder though

Different club, but GWS rejected offers on Cameron Mccarthy. They weren't happy but held out. Can go both ways.

Richmond will probably offer two first rounders for him similar to the Treloar trade and you want to offer a second rounder? Delusional

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
