This time, it seems that first big drop-away is early and significant, and after that there's just a whole bunch of players who would normally be though of as second rounders.

I guess what I'm saying is, the 'value peak' of the Salem draft was the 5-12 cluster, and the 'value peak' of this draft looks like being 20-30.

I also acknowledge that all may sound like total gibberish.

With this year's draft talent dropping off after about pick 10-12ish, and with a higher possibility of getting an A grade via trade with picks 6 and 15 as opposed to 6 and 22, then yes, this year I would rather 15 than 22 and 25.

I hear ya, and you make a good point. My outlook with the pick 15 though is it's currency as a trade. To me the combo of picks 6 and 15 could get us a young A grade mid, whereas 6 and 22 starts to get a bit thin.

I doubt we will get anywhere with either of those combinations. No club is giving up an A grader for either of those deals, they aren't crazy big offers and we haven't been able to attract the A grader to start with. If we did then pick 6 would be on the table for sure and we'd be able to find whatever it is that needs to go with it.

I think Howe's value is around pick 20-25. I'm not too fussed if we get that in a straight pick or in a pick +/- a further upgrade or down grade.

With the value of draft picks now established for the bidding process we know the comparative values of each pick. And I fancy there will always be at least 1 club who's willing to move back or forward a few spots at one pick to move the other way at another.

The main point I was trying to make is that the article was posted as if it's new info, which it wasn't.

Slim chance given that his GF is from Perth, but Freo can't get into a bidding war with Bennell and McCarthy and Manager is indicating that it's GC or the 2 Melb based clubs (assuming C'wood and North)

Good point - we did have to give up pick 20 in the Tyson deal as well (which was our 2nd round draft pick) ... we also got back their pick 53 whilst giving them pick 73.

Out of all that we ended up with pick 54 which we used on Michie.

Wow.......If Howey was not at the end of his contract, no one would be say squat about him.He has gone from a good player to a spud, hack, ect and people want to swap him for a pick 26 or what ever on a untried kid.He is now (according to demonland) not intelligent, lazy, no loyalty, one trick pony that we should have got rid of years ago.He has played 44 out of 44 games in the past two seasons he averages14 possessions a game (playing forward and back)5 marks3 tackles.5 goalsI will concede that he is going but I for one think this is a mistake.Does he make mistakes.....Yes but so does Bernie Vince, Jones, Jeffy Garlett, and god forbid Hogan. and we want to spend a fortune on some Essendon midfielder.I think I will give Demonland a miss for a few months and wait until the stupid season is finished. I'm not sure how keen the Suns would be to part with a high pick. We would be VERY lucky indeed if they on traded, say, pick 10 for Howe... which as I type that won't happen as Dixon is clearly worth more than Howe. But they have the picks, or potentially players, who appeal to us more than what other clubs would have to offer.
