Not quite sure of shaun atleys current contract status or north's willingness to keep him but would he be worth a straight swap for howe?

Would take that and run! But zero chance!

I would rather picks 6 and 15 than picks 6, 22 & 25. Especially in a shallow draft year.

so essentially you would rather just pick 15, then pick 22 and 25, i think you will find that someone who is picked up at pick 15 has just as much chance of making it as someone at pick 22 and 25. I'd rather have 2 potentials on my list than one

Interesting. I'm the exact opposite.

In a weak draft I'd want the 'extra pick' option rather than the 'earlier pick' option.

It's a bit like a couple of years ago with the Tyson-Salem bonus. Looking at that draft it seemed like there was a cluster of good players from about pick 5 to 12, then a drop away. This time, it seems that first big drop-away is early and significant, and after that there's just a whole bunch of players who would normally be though of as second rounders.

I guess what I'm saying is, the 'value peak' of the Salem draft was the 5-12 cluster, and the 'value peak' of this draft looks like being 20-30.

I also acknowledge that all may sound like total gibberish.

With this year's draft talent dropping off after about pick 10-12ish, and with a higher possibility of getting an A grade via trade with picks 6 and 15 as opposed to 6 and 22, then yes, this year I would rather 15 than 22 and 25.

I hear ya, and you make a good point. My outlook with the pick 15 though is it's currency as a trade. To me the combo of picks 6 and 15 could get us a young A grade mid, whereas 6 and 22 starts to get a bit thin.

I doubt we will get anywhere with either of those combinations. No club is giving up an A grader for either of those deals, they aren't crazy big offers and we haven't been able to attract the A grader to start with. If we did then pick 6 would be on the table for sure and we'd be able to find whatever it is that needs to go with it.

I think Howe's value is around pick 20-25. I'm not too fussed if we get that in a straight pick or in a pick +/- a further upgrade or down grade.

With the value of draft picks now established for the bidding process we know the comparative values of each pick. And I fancy there will always be at least 1 club who's willing to move back or forward a few spots at one pick to move the other way at another.

We couldn't land an A grade mid with pick 2 or 3 last year so I'm not hopeful of landing one with 6 and 15 in a weak draft .

Takes a nice mark

Only when he gets a run at it and can jump over his opponent.

He is terrible one-on-one. And thats a massive liability.

FYI,

that Freo article that someone linked a few posts back is from the 29th of Sept.... Don't reckon they are in the game at all.

Less than two weeks ago, Howe still on the market. Why couldn't they be in the game?

The main point I was trying to make is that the article was posted as if it's new info, which it wasn't.

Slim chance given that his GF is from Perth, but Freo can't get into a bidding war with Bennell and McCarthy and Manager is indicating that it's GC or the 2 Melb based clubs (assuming C'wood and North)

i hope to see him in our colours next year-the beer snake on Boxing day with Chip was awesome.

His manager seems like a character out of Seinfeld.

i think he should switch management and try to make best 22.

You'd need to throw in our 2nd round pick as well.

But given 99% of Demonlanders think the Tyson deal was just Pick 2 for Tyson and Pick 9, that shouldn't be a problem.

Good point - we did have to give up pick 20 in the Tyson deal as well (which was our 2nd round draft pick) ... we also got back their pick 53 whilst giving them pick 73.

Out of all that we ended up with pick 54 which we used on Michie.

Wow.......If Howey was not at the end of his contract, no one would be say squat about him.He has gone from a good player to a spud, hack, ect and people want to swap him for a pick 26 or what ever on a untried kid.He is now (according to demonland) not intelligent, lazy, no loyalty, one trick pony that we should have got rid of years ago.He has played 44 out of 44 games in the past two seasons he averages14 possessions a game (playing forward and back)5 marks3 tackles.5 goalsI will concede that he is going but I for one think this is a mistake.Does he make mistakes.....Yes but so does Bernie Vince, Jones, Jeffy Garlett, and god forbid Hogan. and we want to spend a fortune on some Essendon midfielder.I think I will give Demonland a miss for a few months and wait until the stupid season is finished. It wont stop the knockers but it may preserve my sanity.

I've been saying he's one dimensional for three years. It's got nothing to do with his contract status, but I acknowledge his inexplicable trade value.

latest on Howe from AFL website.

"The 25-year-old played his 100th game with Melbourne in the final round but he has played in just 22 wins since making his debut in round 11, 2011.

The Suns made a presentation to him last week and are understood to be very keen on him joining the fledgling club, with a role as a mobile forward alongside Tom Lynch likely to suit Howe.

They are also likely to be in a better position to get a deal done quickly with the Demons.

Melbourne hold pick No.6 and the Suns have pick No.3 and potentially pick No.10 if they trade Charlie Dixon to Port Adelaide. They might be able to shuffle picks in any deal involving Howe.

On Friday, Howe's manager Ben Niall indicated on trade radio Howe was more likely to leave the Demons than stay.

He is expected to make a decision when he returns from Bali this week."

...Wonder what they have in mind for the "shuffling of picks"?

I don't want to deal with the Roos or Freo. If they help drive up his price, great, but I want us to be dealing with GCS. I'm sure our FD hold the same view.

I agree, although pick 15 from North or Weller from Freo would be pretty good too.

Wonder if theres a player we really want at pick 3 that we are sure wont be there at 6?

If so we could possibly do Howe + pick 6 for pick 3 and their 2nd rounder

Potentially, my money would be on Darcy Parish if a trade like that eventuates.

I'm not sure how keen the Suns would be to part with a high pick. We would be VERY lucky indeed if they on traded, say, pick 10 for Howe... which as I type that won't happen as Dixon is clearly worth more than Howe. But they have the picks, or potentially players, who appeal to us more than what other clubs would have to offer.

He's going to the suns as sure as the sun rises in the morning.

GCS:you wanna play a forward Howey ?
