This is another one of those off-season topics that may have been touched upon before, but seriously what is with the colour red the club is using on its website and why do we seem to be stuck between two shades of it?

Yes, I realise this will be a non issue among many here, but I find it odd that our jumper colour (2015) does not match the logo and the shade used on Promotional Material. Demonland is much the same, you only need to look to the banner on the site to see that while our jumper appears to be the traditional RED the logo and pro forma all appear to be a deeper shade akin to purple.

The MFC website is much the same. The team colours are red and blue, not purple and blue. This a yet another hangover from the Schwabb era, when he tried to 'deepen' the red on the jumper without any success, as modern fabrics mad it look purple. I am still at a loss to explain why the club's website still appears to be using the purpl-ish red and Demonland for that matter?

Is it just me? or does it bother other posters too?150224_SeasonLaunchSocial.jpg

I don't like the 'purple' or more accurately 'maroon' colour.

But I certainly don't like orange style light tomato colour or the Sydney Swans style pink.

In the OP I think the branding is certainly much too maroon, but the jumper on Jonesy is just a slight too orange.

The polo shirt Roosy is wearing seems just about perfectly red. A rich, strong, deep red that is still 100% red. Like a beautiful classic ferrari.

I think the club knows what colour it wants, but getting that on to the jumper might not be as easy as it sounds. Fixing the branding is probably an issue, but I'd rather we spend money on football than worry about the website being a bit off colour.

Agree 100%. It annoys me too.

Last year the socks didn't even match the jumpers - the socks were the deeper red and the jumper the regular red. In addition, all the off-field gear (eg. media polo, coach's clothes, training gear) were the deeper red / maroon colour which didn't match the on-field jumpers.

I know it's only a little thing but it looks unprofessional in my opinion.

I personally hate that deep red colour as it didn't work. Everything came out looking maroon and more like an old Fitzroy jumper than Melbourne.

My understanding is that after people complained about the deep red jumper a few years ago, they agreed to change it back to the regular red. However, I was told that this would be the only change - the deeper red would appear on all other club merchanise.

I think club colours needs to be consistent across the board and therefore we should just do away with that awful deep red / maroon colour on everything (including logos and promotional material) and go back to the normal red that is on the current jumper and that all other teams wear.

In fairness to the club and suppliers, matching colours on fabris is not easy. However, I do agree with the sentiments and for digital artwork there should be no excuse to not get the colours right.

On here I'd probably say it's because the deeper shade is a bit easier on the eyes, not as bright so makes the viewing a little better

Of course the colour you see on your screen or monitor is heavily dependent on the settings you have for them...

I won't go into the intricacies of RGB, CMYK or spot colours, or the concept of colour composition, but it is a complex subject.

I have been led to believe that we are playing in white against Freo, unconfirmed

It is a disgrace that 'away' jumper. It looks like a Saints jumper if anything. Why can't we b like Collingwood? One (distinctly unique) jumper and just change the colour of your shorts!

I almost guarantee we will not wear that red jumper at all this year as the AFL and the Networks deem red to be dark, which is the greatest load of [censored] of all time.

No, it doesn't.

You are right CB, not sure how that looks anything like the Saints jumper. It is very Carlton'esue, or a bit Fitzroy even, either way its a massive improvment on the Swans jumper we have had for the last few years

Ignorance alert.

Who's the bloke in the middle? I had assumed it was Jeremy Howe, but doesn't he now have a sleeve tattoo?

Back on topic. I'm not going to die in a ditch about it, but there should be a consistent colour scheme used across all products and media.

I'll reckon we'll wear the red jumper against Carlton.

I would have thought:

Home jumper

-Collingwood, Geelong, GWS, GC, Hawthorn, North, Richmond, Sydney, Dogs

Red

-Carlton, Fremantle, St Kilda (even though I don't think we clash), Port, West Coast

White

-Adelaide, Brisbane, Essendon

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
