Exactly. They TRAIN all year round, they don't PLAY all year round.

Not been watching any of the other NAB games?

still cant mark ,kick ,handball ,the basics of the game

Vandenberg is a unit. Felt like a real noob when he came on and I went, "uhh, who's the tall in 37?". Not sure if it was just the TV effect, but he looks big.

I tried to buy rpfc's softly softly approach, but he looked like he belonged out there to me.

He looked to have good poise, he looked quick on the lead and great disposal.

Not a bad hit out.

Howe to replace Grimes, Viney & Vince to replace Bail and Matt Jones and we're a few percentage points better.

said it last year Grimes no good move on confidence completely shot

Liked Jeffy's game. No idea how many touches he had but he showed good energy.

Looked a threat in the second half.

I'm a JKH fan, but Garlett is a step up. Suspect he's probably got a short shelf life, but he definitely takes the pressure off JKH to come on immediately.

Being the fresh man in the second half would've made it much easier (even McKenzie had his moments). But it he seems a natural footballer. Wasn't just your TV he looked similar to Hogan and wearing 37 I thought he was even Gawn at times!

A few of the young boys will have even more incentive to impress at training now; it seems obvious to me there's spots up for grabs based on the, sadly predictable, duds in today's match. We will forever be cellar dwellers as long as M. Jones is in our "best" 22. Grimes made the correct call to step down from the captaincy because he is clearly playing for a career at this point. Maybe a diet more substantial than bananas would be a step in the right direction?

I really hope Stretch/Brayshaw get a chance in one of the remaining games. If we could take it up to Freo in those conditions, I feel pretty confident about the Bulldogs and Essendon matches.

He's very soft and needs to defend like he means it. But his pace is the real deal and he can kick a footy (except maybe for goal). He had no supply forward so moving him up the ground was worth a shot. If we can win the hit outs he could be a weapon from the centre square

Only had 11 disposals, but 4 tackles mostly in the second half, has a bit of X factor about him. Hogan and Garlett have added so much to our forward line.

Thought Dunn was ordinary today.....Gawn was better than Jamar.

I don't see Gawn, Pedersen and Jamar all playing when we're up for points. None particularly amazed me today, reckon there's a lot to play out in that regard over the rest of the PS.

Jamar is still a much better ruckman, look at the hit out stats. Gawn is much better around the ground in the ruck, but not if he's turning it over by foot. Neither offered much forward but that's likely with bad supply.

Happy to keep playing both unless Pedersen knocks the door down and he didn't tonight.

Matt Jones is complete tripe. Jumping on blokes backs when they on the ground. Fumbling. Stumbling the ball out of his own team mates hands. Butchering the footy and [censored] weak at the contest. He has to go. I don't care how weak we are in the outside mids we will just have to play more youngsters and half forwards and rotate them through the wing.

Grimes is also playing for his career. If he saves it, it's probably because Garland is just as bad. And Lynden Dunn wasn't given the vice captaincy to keep missing targets and offer little as a defender.

Thankfully the new and younger guys showed a bit and we can roll on with them instead of the same old same old from more experience types who have learned nothing.

We need to keep the experience, but players like Grimes and Garland reminded me of those dark days.

No Dawes in round 1 but I'm not keen on all 3 either. Do probably need someone who can take a grab though. Watts, Vandenberg, Howe and hope the 2nd ruck steps up?

That is so funny, because I did exactly the same thing.

I agree. Maybe Pederson gets a gig, but Jamar and Gawn look below the level. I think Spencer would be a better option.

Dont understand why Billy Stretch wasn't given a go today. He has been in impressive form over the summer and i would have rather him play then Matt Jones.

Probably just managing him due to his age, but by all accounts he would've added much more class than M. Jones. He's showing some really impressive athleticism at training, and he has some serious skillllllz.

Garland was our best player in 2013 though. But there's something not right about him. I don't like him on talls and I don't like his lack of energy. He didn't have that in 2013.

Grimes has had a progressive decline. I fear his body isn't suited to AFL and he carries no weight on him at all and plays without any power. I think he's simply been worn out as an AFL player. Step 1 in fixing him if I were in charge was to give him another 8 weeks off now working on his body and kicking. He's simply not going to find form without changing something. Beef him up and build his confidence in the VFL. Try him in the AFL midseason.

Ugh, forgot about Dawes missing for round one. Sparked a new round of hitting my head on the wall over that one.

The second ruck has to stand up, then, and it has to be Pedersen IMO. Gawn and Jamar not mobile enough for mine, which is what Dawes offers. Pedersen's got a few weeks to find form.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
