happy to be proven incorrect but I recall GAJ being exactly the opposite and saying nothing - never committed to the cats - never said he was staying - continually touted the " will discuss at the end of the season - just want to play footy".

Fair enough. I recall Scully trying to say the same thing but having the President having him to dinner and pounding him for information and insisting he sign.

Anyway water under the bridge. Ablett ran out on Geelong and Scully ran out on Melbourne. We got the better end of the deal.

Gary Ablett Jnr and Jimmy Bartel.

GAJ because he's one of the best footballers of all time, yet he comes across as a likeable humble guy.

Bartel because he just gets the job done over and over. He isn't flashy, but he's a smart footballer, he's a good contested mark and great overhead, plays his best footy when it's pissing down with rain and he can just dig in and scrap. He's a big game player too. Love him!

I love watching Judd (in his prime), GAJ and Hodge. But probably love watching Franklin the most.

Luke Hodge has my respect - goes hard, hurts all in his path, gets hurt in the process....never winces and I've seen him help his opponent up.

For me Luke Hodge is the most complete team player in the game and has been for at least the past 5 years. GAJ has been the outstanding individual.

Bob Murphy for heart and soul for his club and Roughead is just a unit.

Obba, I reckon Bartel has been a better team player than Hodge, and by no means am I taking anything away from Hodge (love his guts). Have a look at Geelong when they were at their highest peak - Bartel was regularly played in positions all around the ground. It was a luxury that they had at the time - that they could play a player of Bartel's calibre in a back pocket, back flank, forward flank or forward pocket. He obviously won a Brownlow playing mostly in the centre. Could he have won another one/two? Who knows, but he was willing to sacrifice personal glory for team glory.

Of all the Geelong players in the late 2000's to early 2010's, Bartel would've been the player I (ie the MFC) would've thrown as much money as possible to get him to our club. He may well have been offered a lucrative contract, not just from us, which if that were the case, it'd support my view.

Used to love Kelly at the Swans, Sticks Kernahan, and Hocking at Geelong.

I think the Pav for his loyalty and consistent brilliance is right up there. He'd have a brownlow if he played for one of the big Vic clubs.

Sam Mitchell for the way he plays. Not just his skills but the way he just ignores all the scragging and dirty [censored] that his opponents do to him and focuses on getting the ball.
