How do you see the 2015 team?

In 2015, would like Jones to step up (hold your keyboards folks!!!) He is undoubtedly, our best player. Very professional. But believe he has much more potential.

As an on-baller, would like him to kick more goals and impact the result more. As an example, Selwood focused on more goals in his preseason last year and it paid off handsomely.

As our captain, would like him to do a bit more on-field 'coaching' by among other things, making sure players are following coaching orders and reminding them when not. And to become more vocal, especially when we go into our shells and go into what Roos called 'think we are going to lose' mode. Other leaders have a role in these but as captain would like to see Jones lead the charge, become our General.

These will lift him into the ranks of one of the best players in the league, not just at the Dees. More importantly he will become a terrific leader for us.

i actually hope he ( Dimitri ) as well as as many others as possible all complete a solid preseason. Im curious what he CAN do.Im not sold on him to date. irrespective of reasons/excuses.

If he CAN play . lets see it.. That will be a good contribution to a side needing more and better contributors

having said that Im interested in any number of players,

I think Jimmy, if he has a strong pre season will give a strong showing in 2015. I think he will thrive on the competition as he seems pretty driven. For me lack of fitness was an issue for him last season and the high expectations put on him (mostly by himself it seems).

I think Jack Viney will be the other big improver. He is a great competitor.

Can't wait for season 2015 to kick off. Even excited to follow Casey in 2015 with a new coaching group.

cross will be in the lineup for sure, petracca and brayshaw et al will have to prove their worth

Cross will struggle all going well.

Though i will not discuss the logic of this with a man of your stature.Or Statue.

Hemlock is not to be trifled with Biff!

I have given it a shot.

No worse than Ketamine.

Mind you ,paralisation of the entire central nervous system is not for everyone.

Round 1 2015

FB: Garland McDonald Jetta

HB: Grimes Dunn Lumumba

C: Vince N Jones Watts

HF: Kent Hogan Howe

FF: Garlett Gawn JKH

R: Jamar Tyson Viney

I: Cross Pedersen M Jones Sub: Salem

I think that our young recruits will need to show some form in the VFL before they get a shot in our firsts. That includes Frost. There might be one that excels at training and in the NAB Cup that is too good to refuse and if that's the case then I would expect M Jones to miss out. The young recruit to come in would be the sub.

I expect Dawes will come in for Pedo for our round 2 match unless Pedo plays exceptionally well.

When looking at the above 22, at their best there aren't many that I would expect to be dropped back to the VFL so I would expect that the competition for spots will be fierce. This is good.

Surely Toumpas gets in there over M Jones...

Hogan also needs help, and gawn isn't that guy. Wouldn't mind seeing frost included in the team and releasing someone like garland forward?

Not based on last year he wont. M jones gets the pill and moves it on unsung performer. Jimmy T will have to lift his game and work his arse off

JKH played Round 1 last year, and I would imagine that there would be one or two of the new boys who might get a run in the opening round.

But they're going to have to fight a bit harder for a place than JKH did.

JKH was absolutely on fire in the Pre-season cup last year (basically won as the game against Richmond) and won his spot in Round 1. If any of the other recruits shows what he did - they'll no doubt be rewarded.

Well, I had a little play and tallied up everyones team and came up with a team that basically has the most votes from this thread.

Turned out like this;

FB: Dunn, T.McDonald, Jetta

HB: Lumumba, Garland, Grimes

C: Vince, Jones, Watts

HF: Kent, Dawes, Howe

FF: Garlett, Hogan, Pederson

Foll: Jamar, Viney, Tyson

Int: Frost, Salem, Cross, Petracca

If we turned out like this, I reckon I'd be pretty happy.

I believe you may see both picks 2 and 3 in round 1. My mate knows them both and says that you couldn't see 2 more competitive hard at it kids. Will be busting the doors down!

I reckon thats pretty close to the mark. Interesting that there's only two kids (Salem & Petracca) from the past 2 drafts being given a run (off the bench). Bodes well for 2016 and beyond, given the talent we now have brewing up in the twos.

The round 13 win against Essendon this year was on Fox Footy last night. Kent did a couple of amazing things in that game. A freakish snap across the body from 40 out and that incredible run from the wing inside 50 burning off Carlisle to kick a crucial goal.

One of the things I love most about watching sport is the psychology of players and teams. In Kent's case I would suggest the only thing holding him back now is his belief in himself that he can compete at the highest level. He has everything, good solid body, can hold his feet in a contest, good contested mark, excellent speed and elite kick. Build the tank a bit more and he could be anything and 2015 is the time to deliver.

He has the same problem a lot of our recently departed players (Strauss, Blease, Tapscott) have. He doesn't get the footy enough.

If you believe earlier reports on Kent then self belief is not his problem. 2015 is his year to establish himself or go the way of the aforementioned players.

I don't think that's in him 'Lucifer', but what you can expect is for him to lead by example. Sticking his head down and working hard is Jones style of leadership, the vocal stuff will come from others.

Another way to look at it, who definitely won't be in the Rd1 team?

Trengove obviously. Hunt. The rookies. Anyone else definitely not in?

Makes some intense competition for spots.

I'd place Terlich in that category. I just can't see how he comes into the side now other than via injuries to those ahead of him.

King is a long term prospect and can't see him getting a game ahead of the other big men.

Everyone else should feel that they can force their way into the side. We made inroads this time last year in terms of creating more competition for spots, and it's about to go up another notch. Will be very interesting to observe who raises their hand.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
