Or pretty much, last years team with Frost coming in to FB allowing Dunn to play 3rd tall and Howe to then be set more in to a floating role. Lumumba in as a half back/wing runner to lift our running power. Most of last years midfield the same (at least to start with).

Then a brand new deep forward line of Hogan and Garlett. Plus Petracca who I think will just be too talented up forward to leave out.

I can't see Roo's throwing the boys into the fire round 1, he wants them to develope and prove themselves amount men, round 3/4 if they are racking up possessions he'll add them in then.

Big preseason for Toumpas, really needs to come on in leaps and bounds for himself and the team

Best 22 and the reserves 22

Jetta Frost Dunn

Garland McDonald Grimes

Harry O N Jones Vince

Watts Dawes Howe

Garlett Hogan Gawn

Jamar Tyson Viney

Cross Kent Toumpas Salem

M Jones McDonald Harmes

Terlich ******** Hunt

Stretch Michie Riley

Bail Pederson Petracca

King Fitzpatrick JKH

Spencer McKenzie Brayshaw

Newman Trengove Neal Bullen

Looking at these teams another tall defender would be good. Mids we know have a lot of players that can run through our midfield.

Considering that out of the 11 players leaving only one made a meaningful contribution in 2014, the list will immediately be in a much stronger position barring an injury explosion.

The last couple of years I think we have witnessed some very shrewd list management decisions and hopefully some outstanding recruiting.

We have been fooled before, but the professionalism is pervading into all areas of the club.

Hopefully the club with Plapp can start to settle the Casey situation.

In case you didn't notice it is a generic team [c.f. round 1] as it has Dawes in it who is suspended for the first round.

My version of best 22 and the reserves 22

Jetta Frost Dunn

Garland McDonald H L

Watts N Jones Vince

Petracca Dawes Howe

Garlett Hogan Gawn

Jamar Tyson Viney

Cross Kent Toumpas Brayshaw

M Jones O McDonald Harmes

Terlich Pederson Grimes

Stretch Michie xxxxxxxx

xxxxxxx King Hunt

xxxxxx Fitzpatrick JKH

Spencer Newman

Bail Riley Neal-Bullen McKenzie

xxxxxx > Obviously there will be some of the Casey VFL list [who are training with us] will be up for contention plus our other two [unpicked] rookies and Trengove when he recovers.

Although I haven't indicated as such, I expect that Salem and Grimes will be a regular in the first 22 and that my views will have changed after the preseason and the emergence of injuries.

Back: Garland Dunn Jetta

HB: Grimes T.Mcdonald Lumumba

Wing: Vince Viney Watts

HF: Howe Hogan Kent

F: Garlett Dawes Pederson

Ruck: Jamar RR: Jones Rov:Tyson

Bench: Cross, Newton, Bail

Sub: Salem

The last few spots on the bench are up for grabs and this line up is clearly dependent on injuries and what not, JKH, Matt Jones and Toumpas especially. I am chosing Bail and Newton over these as Newton is the big bodied mid fielder and Bail adds speed and also is a bit of a utility.

The younger boys will be given the opportunity to prove themselves in the VFL and there is no need to rush them into the ones.

The fact our list is in a much better position than it was 24 months ago makes choosing these teams difficult, But Fitzy, Gawn, Spencer and King will be allowed more time to really knock down the door, especially since Pedersons season last year was very good.

I have a real good feeling that Brayshaw and Petracca will become mainstays in the senior side sooner rather than later.

They are both big bodied, competitive beasts with that natural ball getting ability with an attacking burst.

You just watch them go in the pre season trial games, they will be hard to ignore, just like JKH and Salem did last year, the only difference is these guys bodies seem pretty hardened, and it looks like they don't mind the contact.

'Best 22' 2014 vs 2015

OUT: Frawley, Pedersen, Terlich, M Jones, JKH, Salem

IN: Frost, Hogan, Lumumba, Garlett, Frost, Newton

I have Grimes saving his career as a ute, Howe as a ute, Bail on the wing, and McD, Frost, Dunn, Garland, Jetta and Lumumba in the backline.

Garlett, Kent, and Watts with three talls - Gawn, Dawes, and Hogan.

IMO of course.

Nowadays there has to be a third tall / second ruckman, doesn't there?

For me, that means that the team has to have either Pedersen or Fitzpatrick. Gawn, Jamar and Spencer seem to be pure, full-time rucks, who offer little when spending time in the forward line. We have to have someone who can play predominantly as a forward, but give a good chop-out in the ruck.

Dawes, like what Malthouse believed, would be perfect if he had the tank / desire to play this role. Unfortunately, he believed that this was the main reason for his form plummeting, and then ultimately leaving Collingwood.

JKH will play for most of 2015 I'm tipping.

Melbourne are better with him in the side.

I agree.

I see him as a future midfielder that adds a different and very important and different dimension to our list. I think he is a great talent.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
