Regarding Neal-Bullen I have spoke extensively with another teams recruiting manager and he thought "Neal-Bullen was the steal of the draft" Kid is a running machine, very teachable and perfectly suited as an inside mid able to run both ways all day.

Similar to the info I got, we were looking at Oscar Mc at ANB's pick , but couldn't believe he was still there and grabbed him

I saw that at the time too. Thought he must have just put a cross through the names of anyone he hadn't heard of before. It's the only logic I could come up with to justify such nonsense.

I'm surprised Jake Lovett wasn't on the list.

TDI, while I'm glad we got Osc, that line "we couldn't believe he was still there" seems to be a stock saying by Melbourne recruiters year in year out.

I think I may have heard it first when Jack Fitzpatrick was picked up late!

However, from reports around the traps (big footy) ANB was well regarded before the draft.

I look forward to following his and Oscar's progress during the year.

Didnt this bloke already get delisted by one of our D/land poster's?

Yes you are right, but tis time I asked because I was given a cliché, word was ANB was 'supposed' to go in top 25 along with Oscar himself, club was genuinely surprised both were still there but went with ANB first and the way the draft was unfolding, were confident Osc would still be there at 53, as an aside Tommy Mc told me best he was hoping for at draft time was rookie spot, ah the draft it is a mysterious thing

Interview demonstrates he is clearly a very smart guy, I mean he basically describes off the cuff his entire recovery program in detail, and I actually learned something! I also remember watching his draft footage and he even though he didn't have any major highlights, he just look so composed and natural in everything he did, which got me really excitied.

Saw this kid play on the weekend.

Dee supporters should be very very excited if he continues his form up. Thought along with Michie he was quite clean in the choppy conditions. He is also a tough little terrier like Jack Viney and a couple of times I saw him dish out a couple of push and shove on the more experience mids for Sandy.

Glad to hear that ANB had a blinder today. He has been building some solid over the last couple of weeks.

Remember watching him against Sandy and i thought he was our best player on the day with Michie. In windy conditions he was so clean with the ball and was really aggressive as well.

Part of me wants him to debut next week but also another part says leave to develop at Casey. We saw last year when Salem had a 32 disposal game and debut the week after so who knows?

Thoughts?

No rush.

when Roosy team think he's ready, then its time. poor culture & rushing kids development, has ended many careers at Melbourne over the years.

Posted

No rush but he's had a fair crack.

He played two games with the development team, debuted in the senior Casey side in round 3 against Essendon, and has played in round 4, 5, 6, and 8 (round 7 was the bye). With 5 solid games at VFL level he's gotta be in contention.

Posted

I am really excited about the NBN!

Posted

He will debut next week,

Must be averaging close to 25 touches a game for Casey, cant remember him getting less than 20 in a game

Posted

I liked him the moment we drafted him.

I'm no draft guru, but for whatever reason, he gave me confidence in selecting him. Similar to when we drafted Kent.

Posted

I like the look of him, but SANFL form means nothing to me from past experiences.

But we are talking about his current VFL form?

Posted

If Tyson wasn't an automatic inclusion next week then ANB might be at the top of the list. If Collingwood belt us expect changes, and 3-4 changes sees ANB in the side.

If we win or get close, ANB probably plays another week at casey.

Posted

Would rather we didn't throw ANB to the wolves, but for some reason I could see him having a breakout match against another young team in the Saints.

Pretty fair summation I would say.

Go Dees. A murder of magpies has a great ring to it and would also obviate any temptation to rush him in.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
