Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

AFL National Draft 2014 Pick 40

Would like to see us take the best available inside mid with this pick.

Dean Gore would be the best option if still available, otherwise Touk Miller would be the next best option if he's still there.

If neither of those guys are available then I would go for Peter Bampton who should still be there at pick 40.

Miller probably gone by 40, you'd expect based upon what all the experts are saying.

He looks of a like to Salem and Toumpas, quite a similar body shape and football style, perhaps a bit more inside than Toumpas? He's pretty small and not super quick. Has smarts.

Gore looks a goer.

I think he's more JKH than either of Salem or Toumpas, but with slightly less burst but more midfield ability but the same type of smarts.

Whether JKH, Viney and Miller could all play in the same sides is an interesting question. My answer would probably be yes as long as they have different roles and are good enough. I guess JKH will mainly be a nippy forward who might spend some time on the wing. Viney a centre square mid and Miller could be a bit of both. He actually reminds me of Ben McGlynn more than anyone else. He'd be a nice addition at 40 if he's still there.

Lucas Webb is on the radar. Has been training with Tom Couch and been smashing up the tan. 186cm Medium Forward

I like him. Although I don't like kids that size who don't play midfield. The whole it's better to draft midfielders then get them playing forward thing (ie Kent) rather than the other way around. But I do like some of what he can do, I just hope he has positional flexibility required. But big body powerful left footer sounds good.

Toby McLean and Damien Cavka are two others that I would be happy with at this pick if they are still available. Phantom drafts have them anywhere from in the 20's to the 40's.

I like Gore. But I like him more if we don't get Petracca.

If we get Petracca and Brayshaw, then surely we predict them becoming important centre square mids alongside Viney and Tyson.

Petracca is a great forward, the other 3 not so much.

And that's not even mentioning Riley, Michie and Newton. Nor the (unlikely) resurgence of Trengove or McKenzie. Plus Salem and Kent aren't afraid of the rough stuff and were recruited for ability to mix it in the midfield not just as forwards or outside players.

My point is our list balance with Gore in addition to Petracce and Brayshaw will be heavily towards contested ball and not overly pacy types. We will have some key defenders and Hogan, plus rucks can always be bought when required.

But Billy Stretch and Toumpas (and good old Jack Watts) will be left carrying a lot of expectations as wingmen types and so far Jayden Hunt is about all we have for the future from half back. I'm not even sure what he'll bring besides pace either, will he be an attacking or defending type?

40 could be our best chance of finding a wing or half back option to bolster our stocks there. Unless Gore is far superior in ranking I'd be keener on a guy who brings speed and skill.

Would take Oscar McDonald any day of the week ahead of Reece McKenzie.

McKenzie more likely to still be there though. Would be very surprised if McDonald gets through to the 30's, let alone pick 40.

Pick 40: Melbourne - Declan Hamilton

Position: Forward/midfielder

Height: 183 cm, Weight: 68 kg, DOB: 18/03/1996

Club: Port Adelaide

Plays Like:

Highly regarded among many clubs, Declan Hamilton had a really strong championships, averaging 16 possessions at 76% efficiency from all six games. However, given the vast array of Victorians featuring heavily again in this draft period, Hamilton is one who has unfairly been overlooked in terms of what he offers at the next level. Better known as the nephew of Darren and Andrew Jarman, Hamilton is quite a versatile player who has excelled in stints particularly across half back, along with cameo appearances through the midfield. His awareness in congestion makes it seem as though he has a sixth sense: he just knows when to expect contact, when to sidestep and when to pull the trigger on a risky handball or kick that opens up a passage of play. Hamilton also has a really strong endurance base, often doing a lot of unrewarded running. On top of that, he also works well into space to always create an option, while his repeat efforts are worth noting

Paige Cardona has us down for Declan Hamilton. Nephew of the Jarman's so whilst he's a skinny kid now he might have no trouble putting on weight! Seems a nice sort

40. Melbourne
Bailey DALE
Dandenong Stingrays | 22/7/96 | H: 182cm | W: 70kg
Bailey has been our smokey from day one. He got better and grew in confidence as the year went on. He has plenty of talent but there isn’t much of him. I don’t think he’s fully developed yet – he’s got size 13 feet and barely has a hair on his body. He’s got some x-factor, he knows where the goals are but he will take time even though he played in a senior flag with Edi-Asp. I liken him a bit to Taylor Garner with his long arms. He’s gone from being a rookie chance to a strong draft prospect. –Dandenong Stingrays talent manager Mark Wheeler
In the mix: Toby McLean

Brett Anderson has Bailey Dale lined up for us. He puts together a nice highlight package. Seems very agile and speedy. The comments about him being a late bloomer are interesting. Size 13 feet for a kid of 182cm does seem weird and maybe point to him growing a few more inches. I'd probably prefer Toby McLean who he has going the pick before, he seems a bit more powerful and a bit more productive. But again an interesting choice. I'm definitely a fan of taking a risk for some speed and skill to complement our first two picks.

Roos has as good as confirmed on the radio this evening that we will be drafting Brayshaw and Petracca tomorrow. He made this claim on the basis that the interviewers were adamant that McCartin would be picked by St. Kilda. A decent midfield at last? Now all we need is to focus on another tall that might slip through to pick 40!

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
