Jack Trengove has an undeniable passion for the Melbourne Football Club and Jack Trengove deserves our loyalty.

Trengove gives hope to fans by signing an extension, at the clubs darkest hour. He's then bestowed with the pressure of leading this mess up the ladder, while playing with an undiscovered foot injury... He never considers leaving? But the club is considering him for trade?

I agree with all of the above as the product of the evolution of the AFL with the power transferring to the players.

However, I have not seen any where that the club is considering him for trade. RFC floated a possible trade at the last moment on Friday evening and the club is diligently looking at it and asking Jack if he would entertain it. Three things could happen with this proposal from here. 1. Jack says " No. I want to stay with the MFC." 2. Jack says " Yeah. I would consider it." in that case the Club looks at the deal offered and either accepts it as proposed or negotiates to a better position before accepting it.

As it stands at the moment, there is a deal on the table and MFC is yet to respond.

Personally I do not have enough information to evaluate what would be best for either Jack or the MFC. There are too many moving parts to it from the outside and I have no idea how this deal may impact on other possible deals out there.

As a collective I am sure that the MFC has very clear ambitions for this trade/drafting season and I would hope they have the flexibility to react to the very fluid situation that is inherent in this period of the year. MFC must compromise on their ambitions as little as possible.

With only three trades done, this has been the most interesting trade period in years.

Look at this analytically.

Forget that he was a pick 2 and a former captain. We really don't have time for those sentimental decisions. They are at least best made now when morale and belief in Roos is high not in a couple of years time when it goes full McCartney.

Trengove can certainly play. But he doesn't have a natural position. Too slow to play outside. Not dynamic enough to play inside. Doesn't have the skills for half back or the x factor forward.

Our inside mids are Cross, Jones, Vince, Tyson Viney. Our outside mids should be Lumumba, Watts, Toumpas etc. It's not a strong group. But if Trengove isn't better than Michie, Riley or Toumpas what's the difference?

My biggest problem with the deal is it's 12 for 23 and is a 2 for 1 deal. If the Tigers throw in pick 49 as well as we can on trade that for Frost then I'm more interested (presuming we need that for Frost and/or can get someone else in the PSD.

I'm wondering whether they might put Watts up for trade too. Talking of natural positions, I've been a defender of Jack for a long time, but you wouldn't say he's nailed a position.

As others have said, if we do it, the pick will be used as part of a larger trade.

Think of the larger trade as pick 3, pick 23 and Trengove for player X and a pick to on trade for Frost.

It's actually sounding kind of similar to the deal that got Judd to Carlton. In fact, better. I wonder if we proposed our first pick and our second round pick and Adelaide mulled over it, but eventually said give us a bit more. We then decided to put Trenners up for trade. Seems logical. You can never predict anything Roos and co are going to do, so who knows what they could be angling at. I could be completely wrong, but it's almost a certainty that Trenners will go if it will make a "big" trade work, otherwise I just can't see the value in it.

Roos mustn't rate him at all.

Or he rates someone like Dangerfield higher...

Maybe Roos feels Trenners is too scarred by the past. Remember he talked about some players not being able to move on from all the baggage of 186 etc. maybe Jack Trengove is one of those players!

Getting rid of a true loyal and old school clubman like Trenners is a stupid decision. It is also one that could potentially cause more damage than many realize.

We are not getting Beams or Danger, stop living a fantasy.

I work with the father of a Collingwood player, the mail he passes on is all Collingwood related and it's normally on the mark. He said the reasons for Beams wanting out were Money, Buckley and his dad(as said earlier, is in remission), in that order. Brisbane threw a $200-$250k pay rise (from 600ish to 800ish) at him and the opportunity to play with his brother and be close to family was hard to pass up. Hasn't heard anything about Beams to Melbourne from his son though.

If Trengove + 23 for 12 is true and it is part of a play to lure Beams it likely results in Brayshaw and pick 83 (or the PSD) being our only live draft picks. I can't see us having the currency (either money or picks wise) to bring in another big name like Dangerfield etc. Beams and Lumumba will chew up a bit of the salary cap space we have, meaning a decent PSD pick is unlikely. Would hope we could get the tigers 3rd round pick(52) as part of the Trengove deal so that we're not using pick 83 as a live pick.

It would mean:

Players out: Clark, Frawley, Byrnes, Clisby, Nicholson, Strauss, Blease, Trengove; picks 3,23,61,79

Players in: Beams, Frost, Lumumba, Garlett; picks 2(Brayshaw), 41(Stretch), 83(?), 97(Jetta)

Unless we think we can find something better than Tapscott with pick 97 he gets a 1 year deal. Evans/ Mckenzie lucky not to have their remaining year terminated, but we simply don't have the currency to get something worth getting rid of them early for. There is a lot of unrealised talent in the outs. It will hurt if some of them come good, but the reality is that they haven't produced

In term of changes to the 2015 team, we had Frawley, Bail, M.Jones, Mckenzie and Terlich play a combined 86 games this year. If we can get that amount of games out of Hogan, Garlett, Lumumba, Beams and Frost (combined for 65 in 2014) we're a better team. Add development from younger players and we should get a few more wins on the board.

I'd say we're looking at trading a couple more guys with currency for picks. Watts, Howe, maybe even Toumpas? That way we can still take our regulation picks to the draft, go after Dangerfield as well

We need to clear out the players who are scarred from the past 6-7 years , like Trengove, Tapscott, Strauss, Blease, Fitzpatrick, Watts, Howe, Gawn. I think Howe and Gawn are the only 2 who will be there in a few years time, The sooner we move on the others the better it will be for the footy club.

Howe appears to me to exhibit scar tissue. He should have been floated last year, but he still has a little bit of trade value left. I'd be seeing what we can get for him.

and clear some scar tissue from the list. And surely we'd have oodles of room in the cap to support Beams, Dangerfield and a 27 (nearly 28) year old Lumumba?

What happened to we are happy to hold onto pick 2 and 3, something's afoot here we wouldn't put trengove through this without good reason.

I don't think that is more likely. Trading players out for draft picks in return is not something Roos has ever done before, and he's point blank said he does not want to load up on young players. If that is what he is doing this time, then it is going against everything he's ever done or said. It doesn't add up for me unless it's part of something bigger.

Respectively the club handled both of those very poorly and I feel it did enormous damage to morale and the fabric of the club at the time.

I feel for Jack, but the situation is a little different for two reasons.

1. Both Woey and Junior had been and were fantastic players for the club with runs on the board. Jack through no fault of his own has not (so far).

2. Paul Roos publicly, and perhaps even more emphatically to the players themselves, emphasised that our list is not good enough and changes need to be made - whereas Woey was completely blindsided by his trade and Junior's 'retirement' ballsed up completely, I am assuming Jack and perhaps others know exactly what the situation is with their currency and the direction of the club. They may not like it, but I'd like to think this is not a surprise for Jack to read it in the paper (particularly as suggested in one of the articles he's already toured the punt rd facilities)

Players like Simon Godfrey (a popular whipping post in his day) got the most out of their abilities, but they had limitations, and because of those limitations they end up being traded or delisted and we don't tend to mention loyalty in the same breath. If players want out because they don't like the coach or are chasing coin like Beams - well that's modern footy isn't it. We're in the market for good players. I don't know about their respective personalities, but Beams is better than Jack and as much as it pains me to say it, considering his history (and in the recruiting team I have to place my trust) a top 12 pick is worth more than Jack too.
