Pearce Hanley

The Pies believe Brisbanes list contains almost no players as a suitable replacement for Beams, with the likes of Tom Rockliff, James Aish and Daniel Rich considered off limits.

Brisbanes Pearce Hanley has also been mentioned as a part of the Beams trade.

The above is a quote from today's Herald Sun article which discusses Dayne Beams' request to be released to Brisbane on compassionate grounds to be near his father who has cancer.

The inference here (and I know it's written by a couple of journos from the Hun) is while the others mentioned are "off limits" Hanley is expendable which surprises me. It's almost suggesting to the world that they should make a play to get him. Hasn't Brisbane gone down this road before with a bad outcome for its playing list?

There is no way known Brisbane will let Hanley go. While it sounds like Ed has dealt well with Beams on a personal level, Collingwood need to get their head out of their collective arse when it comes to the business transaction. They are not the ones holding the aces.

There is ZERO chance of him leaving.

I think the inference is referring to the fact Collingwood see him as a good enough player to be involved in the trade talk, but Brisbane wouldn't let him leave for anything.

This. That article is nothing more than speculation - I don't believe for a second the Lions would even come close to trading someone of Hanley's ability.

Good point Nash, but I didn't take you for one who 'likes' their own material!

Exactly. They just brought his younger brother over from Ireland a week or so ago even though he seriously injured his knee.

Hanley also signed on for 5 years last season and called the youngsters who left the lions last year "soft".

No chance in hell the Lions would let him go. Reckon its just the journo throwing a name up without thinking

Brisbane should offer Hanley up in exchange for Beams.

I would do that trade in a heart beat.

Hanley has had one good year and has played unaccountable off the back line.

Beams is three times the footballer Hanley will be.

Beams AND Hanley will be on Brisbane's list next year. They are under no obligation to pay any sort of hefty price for Beams, if Collingwood become uncooperative, they can throw their hands in the air and walk away, leaving Collingwood with the problem.

If Brisbane part with anything of greater value than their second round pick I'll be surprised.

I think you are underrating Beams and underrating how important it is for Brisbane to become competitive again and fast. 12 million in the red in a growing market. 1.5mil salary cap space freed up. An academy system and quality drafting last year producing a steady supply of young talls. A decent amount of young midfielders. Brisbane can be turned around pretty quickly without hoarding draft picks.

And they bloody well need to be. Eddie McGuire says clubs in debt shouldn't pay the full cap. Maybe they shouldn't. But clubs in debt in foreign markets need to invest hard when they see a great deal otherwise they may as well fold.

Dayne Beams lobs on their front door, it's like all their christmases have come at once. Pick 4 must be on the table and it should be. Remember Beams is about as good as Nathan Jones. As if you wouldn't put pick 2 or 3 on the table right away.

Push comes to shove Brisbane will trade pick 5 for beams

Adelaide and Collingwood are known to be horrible to deal with at the trade table at times so a three way deal that involves both losing stars would just be unrealistic

I'd rather focus on Dangerfield.

Gotta have a 'b' plan!

How did that unruly word get through the censors Nash?

I think Brisbane will get it done with draft picks. Their first rounder, and they might swap this second for the pies 3rd rounder. Beams makes them a dangerous team.

Hanley would be great but I feel he is very much required and would be nearly untouchable.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
