The Age reporting a blockbuster 5 club trade:

Collingwood: lose Beams, Lamumba Gain Pick 5, Varcoe, Greenwood, Jack Crisp (or pick from trading him)

Brisbane lose: pick 5, 21, 25 and Jack Crisp (or pick from trading him). Gain Beams, Christiansen

North Melbourne: lose Greenwood Gain pick 25

Geelong lose: Varcoe and Christiansen Gain pick 21 and Mitch Clark

Melbourne lose: Mitch Clark Gain Lamumba

Looks fairly balanced.

Fairly good for Collingwood in my eyes with Brisbane paying overs for Beams. Think Geelong win a little trading Varcoe for Mitch Clarke (hope MFC get a bit more from them)

Still reporting that Melbourne pick 23 + trengove for pick 12 or 10. Hope this is for a really good player trade like 2 very good GWS players:

picks 2, Evans and 12 for Shiel, Green/Tomlinson and Frost.

Tomlinson went to the same high school as Dom Tyson so could be a link there.

I'd like a late 3rd or 4th round pick thrown in somewhere for Frost (leaving our PSD position still open just in case someone else pops up and it is still a good threat to other teams in negotiations for this week too). But it seems pretty settled we're happy with just Lumumba for Clark.

Also, reckon North will push to receive pick 21 rather than 25 for Levi as Geelong appear to be winning that trade big time (I rate Christensen but they've been shopping Varcoe for years for some reason & Christensen has gambling/off-field issues, although Clark is a risk too I suppose).

Apparently no-one really inquired about him!

Not suprised. I think last off season there would be a few clubs would have backed themselves to get more out of him. But after watching another insipid year, this time under Roos, I think everyone has given up hope.

Beams may be a demon next year.

PB

Sounds unlikely, reports that Brisbane are giving up Crisp.

Interesting

Beams is a very good footy player - I can't see him at the Dees as the only reason he's leaving the Pies is to be closer to his dad.... I don't know why the MFC would be invoied

Am not saying you're lying PB but it don't make sense to me

If the Pies refuse to deal with Brisbane - then maybe GWS is an option for Beams? Which is why I can see us being involved to get a GWS mid, picks (2 or 3) to pies and beams to GWS (as they'll be trading for Griffen as well I can see them giving up something)

And geting picks for Trengove to facilitate this trade makes sense - otherwise I have no idea what we're doing - I don't see us chasing picks

Interesting times

Let me just say, Beams wants out of pies full stop. His preference is Brisbane but collingwood couldn't care less.

I'm not saying he will definitely be a demon (like Goodwin) but I can tell you we are into him in a big way.

Mitch Clark left Brisbane once because he wanted to go home......

Do you actually think for a second we would get all 3? We'll be extremely lucky to get one of those players.

I think we'll get one of those GWS blokes, I dunno who, but I expect us to land one. Particularly, if we don't land Dangerfield. At this point, I'm quite happy to be positive in my ignorance.

Danger would be 2 high picks alone at least!

No, he wouldn't. One high pick, plus a late first rounder or second rounder will do it. Remember the Judd trade? Particularly, as pick 2 or 3 will be better than pick 10 for next year.

AF (good initials there by the way) if we manage to get them 3 I'll be over the moon but in reality if we land them 3 I think our Round 1 game will be being played in Disneyland. Roll on Thursday when the crazy season ends

Best time of year. Just let our imaginations take us away...to Disneyland apparently. ;)

I refuse to believe that Melbourne will do a multi club deal that only sees us with HL in return for Mitch Clark. Surely Mitch as a power forward is worth more ( such as a second round pick 21 from Geelong that they may get from Brisbane for Chistianson)! Otherwise why not do a direct swap with him to Collingwood? Edited by CBDees

Beams may be a demon next year.

PB

Santa Clause may also be a demon next year too PB!!

He could take Frawleys spot down back.

Would be a better player too!

This is the biggest week for the MFC since the 2000 GF. I have been muted so no names will be mentioned, but if all goes to plan we will end up with 2 A Graders plus pick 2. The 2 players would enter our list as the 2 best players on our list. Roos may need to settle for a less experienced likely A Grader (a Tyson like) but this is not plan A. Don't be surprised if at least 1 of the players gained has been unmentioned on DL or the media. We are the main player in a massive game of chess. Roos is already a legend, on Thursday evening he may have become a God. A Demon God no less.

In that case its too much (2&3)

I don't want Danger for 2 & 3+ ...... no thanks. would shop hard for him next season F/A

And I'd still prefer Shiel & Greene & Frost for a P-2 & 12.

Or a Shiel & Green for P-2, 23, 40something

You do know how to make a grand entrance GNF :)

I'll be deeply saddened to see Trenners go, but you are making it sound alot more bearable.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
