Potential Trades [Warning: Reading this thread may self-destruct]

A week ago everyone was throwing around trades like pick 3 + Trenners for Dangerfield as the best deal in town.

Now it's sacrilege?

Many we're saying Toumpas but still a good point

I have faith in those making decisions but Trenners and 23 for 12 seems as if we are over paying.

Would of thought 23 is rather extravagant as steak knives, maybe throw in a Blease or Strauss instead.

Do I nreally need to explain that?

So it doesn't matter to you who is going to be there at pick 2 or 3? - That's what I'm referring to in my post.

And I'm sure it matters to the Demon recruiters which club has pick 1 and which player that club will take.

So are you sure you don't care about this?

No I don't. we would get 2 very good players at 2 & 3 if we still have them at draft time!

Sounds like Lions did not blink re Beams.

Stuck to offer of 5 and 25 (the latter would get Greenwood to Pies). No word from Pies. Effectively pick 5 and Greenwood for Beams. Sounds fair.

Just hope it does not make Coll more stubborn and go even harder in our trade for Lumumba and try to get a pick fro Greenwood. Hope we hold our nerve like the Lions did and not pay overs for HL

Wormwood trash are hell to deal with. Go figure that they didn't even finish in the 8 but all their players are champions when it comes to trade time!

Because the club would receive DANGERFIELD and not just pick 12. And we still have pick 2...

Losing pick 23 and Trengove for pick 12 is crap.

I had a feeling Trengove would be up for trade, but didn't think it would be Richmond!

Wouldn't Trengove for pick 12 be suffice though?

wait for the weekend to pass, its gone public for some reason, advertising? lets see what transpires after the weekend has passed? others may come knocking.

Can trades still be done over the weekend?

yes, they just won't be signed off until the monday. Mitch Clark deal was reported on the mfc website on a Saturday night if i recall correctly.

The Club squashed that on their website by saying that Toumpas was a required player!

Yes, I believe that is how it all transpired, as you so emphatically point out..

The mail seems a bit stronger that Saints will keep 1 and take McCartin.

Unless we have a major deal lined up Petracca and Brayshaw would be there for the taking.

If they are as good as hyped, we add 2 potential stars to our midfield.

If I had a dollar for every time I'd heard this sentiment...

who knows maybe we will take petracca and brayshaw and if we trade Trenners for pick 12 and whatever we then go after greenwood with that pick, still gives us 3 good midfielders

or 1 good midfielder and 2 three year lottery tickets?

We need to stop being so bitter about the past. Just coz we have stuffed up the draft in the past doesnt me its not a viable option. This is a VERY different club to 5 years ago and I have a lot more faith in those at the helm. Lets just let these guys do what they think is best. I think we have the right people making the decisions this time.

Exactly. If we give up on the draft because of past failings we must throw in the towel now. Look at Richmond and Port- they were rubbish and although it could be argued the tigs still are, they did some good recruiting after some horrible results and they are a better team than we are currently.

What if Port gave up on the draft and didn't get Wingard or Wines or Grey etc

Trengove is an aggressive play. I can see it potentially happening:

- Trengove + Blease (or insert other steak knives here) to Richmond

- Pick 12 to North Melbourne

- Greenwood and NM second rounder to Melbourne

I would accept Trengove's loss a lot easier if I knew we got a very good midfielder in his prime in exchange.

So would I, but not for Greenwood. Ugh. He's had one good season. Overrated on here and I can't work out why.

i agree don, but it is premature of the op to say 3 good midfielders as though it is a given

Maybe we can do a trade of pick 12 for Beams in the closing minutes of the draft?

Well, there's still plenty of time to get it done.

That would be a great outcome. Having Hogan in the wings and our draft position this year has proved to be great timing with the way the draft talent has panned out - given our need for quality midfielders.

Big thumbs up to our Management and recruiters if this eventuates because it does look as though it has all been planned.

Dare I say it - worthy replacements for Scully & Trengove

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
