Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HERITIER LUMUMBA

I had the unfortunate experience of living next to Lumumba early this year. He is not the guy everyone makes him out to be. He frequently woke my family (and everyone else in the apartment block) with aggressive and demeaning abuse of his girlfriend. What made it worst was that this often happened outside the window of my boys bedroom (they are 1 and 3). We were very conflicted and what we should do, we were going to call the police once, but it settled down; another time I went outside (to shut the gate) hoping he would notice that people were always around listening/watching. Not sure how anyone can make a stand about some social issues while being a perpetrator of another.

Have dealt with him in an official capacity and can concur he is a very unlikeable person.

My work mate who knows nothing about football asked a very innocent question "I believe you play football?".

He replied in an extremely smarmy manner "thats ONE of the things I do! "

Cut it out....seriously.

these posts change my view. Don't like the idea of bringing in such a guy.

Funny thing is, I would still give Jurrah another chance. Jurrah's problem never strikes me as ego. I guess the big ego is what I think is the real culture-killer.

yes, that's true.

still, if one of your blokes raises issues, you can show respect or rubbish him. Maybe Bucks had had enough and broke the rules in frustration. Hard to tell since we weren't there. But, all the same, even though PC can be a pain at times I know, a boss ought to behave the way a boss is expected to, in this day and age. Gotta respect the guys, if you expect to get the best out of them. if you have to address issues, surely you do it in private?

Heretier is more up-to-date than Bucks, that's how I see it. Should he be getting bullied into acting a redneck too?

Maybe, now that Workcare or Worksafe (or whatever they call themselves this year) are getting actively involved in AFL on the supplements issue, they could have a look at Buckley and Collingwood - work place bullying can incur huge penalties for both the perp and the institution!! Maybe bankrupt them??!! :-)

If that is fact then he is a seriously nasty hypocrite and should be outed publicly -- not someone I would go and watch, or want to fund.

My missus was unfortunately on a red eye flight with the entire Coll team back from WA several years ago. She knows nothing about AFL and said they were like rude, pushy boys who would disobey flight attendants and do whatever they liked. She sat next to H and said he was delightful and got the guys around him to turn their phones off, lower their voices, and generally behave like adults. He was good conversation apparently and well respected by the players.

Sometimes there is another side to the coin.

Sensed Roos was pretty excited about the possibility of this occurring after watching 360.

Like Roos said, i have never seen or heard anything too bad about him. I do know he brings great strengths to a footy field in speed and not being afraid of putting his body on the line.Would be great playing on the wing for a while till others develop the capacity to do so.

Yeah he is different, but who cares! He will get paid to play for this football club and i have no doubts he will bring his all to his job. The rest i could not care less about. If he plays football for the demons, i will support him when he runs out there for us.

Hard to tell from one interaction I suppose.

Real life, not movie psychopaths, are very likeable and carismatic people when in public. Behind closed doors they are controlling and manipulating.

Given that you have obviously met him and know him well and are not basing your comment upon media reports, I guess he must surely be controlling and manipulating. Thanks for clearing that up.

You would reject a guy based on hearsay of shouting at his partner and being rude to people, but would happily take one who has been found guilty of assault once and charged a number of other times. It would be fair to say your standards are a bit inconsistent.

I would confidently say that I've played team sports for longer and to a higher level, and therefore been exposed to the things Lumumba rightfully feels uncomfortable and frustrated about.

And I'd also say that like Lumumba, there are things that frustrate and disappoint me hugely in a stereotypical 'blokey' environment... It's a deeply rooted issue and I'd go on to say that I highly doubt the throway line about the mardi gras in isolation would have been the reason he has an issue. It would be a series of repetitive remarks over his career that has culminated in his frustration to such an issue.

Do you find it amusing ( I do ) that posters take exception with stands the Lumumba has taken yet find no problem in saying things like "Fevola is just being a bloke and if he adds to our list I would grab him in heartbeat".

Roos said last night that it was nonsense to suggest that one mardigras line has caused this.

I've met him several times, and not on a plane.

I wasn't basing my comment on him personally either. Was simply saying people are often completely different people behind closed doors.

Hard to base an opinion from a singular flight.

I'm yet to have an opinion on him.

- Quite ironic considering over in the MC thread you made comment that he isn't ready to come back. Know him personally do you? Or just going from media reports?

Anyway, wouldn't be much of a forum if we couldn't convey an opinion or comment, I respect yours.

I'm all for getting him, he can play footy.

But will he be a part of our next premiership team? Remember, we aren't aiming for mid-table mediocrity anymore! We are aiming for the flag!

It seems sometimes that being actually able to play the game is a mark against your name wtih the MFC supporter base/Demonland posters.

He will make Melbourne play better which will increase our chances of winning a premiership.

The odds are the Jesse Hogan won't play in Melbourne's next premiership so we should give up on him too.

That is a very sobering thought Clint - and it takes a lot to sober me.

Sarcasm was implied in my post, Clint. I was just trying to pull out one of the hackneyed cliches wheeled out here about why we shouldn't pick up a genuine player when one becomes available.

We are comfortable with not letting in HL to the club but Colin Sylvia and his crew of drinking buddies got to stink the joint up for ten years.

Demonland Meme: "We Only Recruit Choir Boys!"

Demonland Meme: "Unlikeable Bloke. Look Elsewhere!"

Demonland Meme: "We Just Need Footy Players!"

Pick a lane, any lane...

It's like watching that scene of Moneyball at the start when they're all sitting around the room discussing potential recruits.

Plus this kind of conversation has occurred at Melbourne.

True. I admit it. I'm owning up to my arbitrariness; and I think it's likely a lot of us are likewise applying fairly arbitrary and inconsistent standards. And changing our minds on flimsy grounds.

Good thing it's not up to us.

A mate of mine was manager of ABC TV one time, and he told me the experts used to ring him every day explaining to him all the problems with programming at the ABC. The experts were retired know-alls with nothing better to do. Or, the great Toscanini conducted Mozart and Beethoven in his first tour of the US. At interval some society dame bailed him up and began explaining at length why Beethoven was better than Mozart - "well, that's my opinion anyway," she said. "Madam," the no-longer patient Toscanini is supposed to have said, "your opinion doesn't matter."

Pontificating on recruitment, I began to feel my opinions were a bit all over the place. And that I was not alone.

Have had the same thoughts, so it's a club. Mozart definitely edges Beethoven, btw.

No thank you. (Spoken in that deliberate way your mum had when you were really in the s*7$.

Lumumba does not cut it for me - has been exposed in a less than very good team as a one trick pony.

Watts has more skill more time and more upside.

Lumumba has so much more going for him then Watts except maybe age. A premiership player who is attacking, usually puts his body on the line and a genuine line breaker, versus a possession collector who is worse on our list in 1 on 1s, a weak tackler and zero ferocity for the contest.

Sorry but watts does not even come close.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
