WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HERITIER LUMUMBA

Don't care if you like him or not, it's your silly comment that he will be a major problem in the locker room that I was arguing, which you admitted was based on nothing but your precious opinion.

No it's based on me knowing he rubs people up the wrong way. This thread alone has surely proven that.

As for my "precious opinion", I don't actually need any facts to form that, because it's an opinion.

Look whatever I don't really care anymore. If the footballer formerly known as Harry O Ends up at the dees then whatever. It's not going to kill us, we've been through worse things.

Those saying that none of our defenders can kick so he'll fit in or be an upgrade on what we already have, is that really what you will settle for?

I'd like to think we're all sick of limited players.

I watch every Collingwood game, usually with my best mate who is a Pies supporter, and I see the Lumumba frustration every week. This year particularly, he gets the ball, but what comes next is highly predictable. We all grew tired of Moloney's get ball boot ball style, this is no different, apart from the dash at the start.

This isn't like adding Cross and Vince, we had no midfield, they are pure midfield accumulators and were much needed.

We need half backs that can run, carry and most importantly hit a target consistently. Someone that sets up play off half back, not someone that simply offers relief for 25 seconds.

I saw the excitement in Paul Roos when discussing H on 360 so I'm resigned to the fact that its likely he's on his way here. I'm just putting it out there that I strongly believe this is not what our back line needs, and hopefully we do get what we need somewhere else, and Lumumba plays on the wing and bombs at goal from 50.

In Roos I trust, I 'spose.

We have to take improvements on our list where we find them.

It's not like we can find the exact players we need by clicking our fingers.

I would love to upgrade to a line breaking, hard running, pin point disposing half back but are any readily available?

List improvement can be incremental and we need to take it when available, it would seem that is the case with Lumumba.

Don't want another season of Grimes, Terlich and co. spotting up opponents when bringing the ball out of defence.

Pfft what a [censored] weak excuse then. If your going to attack someone's personality and character then learn to back it up with proven facts.

If not then, pipe down.

Pfft go learn what an opinion is. How can I provide facts about how I perceive a certain persons character traits? And why do I have to? It's an opinion, take it or leave it. No need for all the butthurt

So one minute your opinion is based on KNOWING he rubs people the wrong way (which would be classified as a fact the way you worded it), but then the next minute it's just an opinion and you can't provide any facts on it?

Keep digging pal.

You had a dig at me because I said I'd heard Ball, Maxwell and Dawes all speak highly of HL as a bloke. At least I had some evidence to support my opinion.

No I had a dig at you because you took what you heard on prime time telle as gospel. I wouldn't really call that evidence though, you do realise they aren't going to say he's got a bit of dickness about him on TV right?

Still waiting your evidence.

If you have criticisms of the guy's football skills, fine. But if you don't want this guy at our club because he has stuck his head out over a couple of things that are important to him, then get (censored). If you think everything is great and the world doesn't need changing in a lot of ways you are either wilfully ignorant or just ignorant. We need more people like him, not less.

I haven't seen enough of his footy recently to make a call on it, but it's just sick to see so many posters can't accept anyone who isn't a conformist sycophant at their team.

I agree with DA. We have too many players who just belt a high up and under kick forwards when under pressure. It doesn't work and it generally gets us torn apart on the rebound. We need a quick HBF who can win 1-1 contests, not get outmarked and has quality disposal. HL does not meet these needs.

Sounds a bit like the letters to Santa that my kids used to write ...

IMHO, completely unrealistic given that a) the players who do that can be counted on one hand and b) they're not going anywhere.

Look at last year's trading: was considered a success, yet there were plenty here railing against taking "cast-offs" like Cross (over the hill), Vince (Sylvia mark 2/party boy/bad influence in the locker rooms), and Tyson (can't even get on the field) etc. etc. Look at the difference they made (thank god).

Lumumba is a walk-up start in a decent team - as he has been for a number of years under 2 different coaches, one of whom at least doesn't suffer fools - is apparently a dedicated and committed trainer and athlete, and would be an improvement on almost everyone we currently have in his on-field position.

But no, he's not perfect. For that, you'd need Santa to come early. Along with the tooth fairy and easter bunny.

I suppose that goes equally for Self absorbed narcisistic tossers as well

Firstly, Heritier will be at Melbourne next year.

Secondly, this guy is exactly what we need. Hard trainer, Line breaker, experienced, premiership player, All Australian.

Granted he has some different beliefs, but that's what clubs are all about. Roos is a different beast to Nathan 'FIGJAM' Buckley.

He's there to play FOOTBALL and help us WIN games.

An upgrade on what we have is what we're after, isn't it? Incremental improvement - as much as I'd love for Luke Hodge to fall on our lap, I suspect slow improvement is what we can expect trades until we can home-brew our own star off half back.

My whole point is he isn't an upgrade. He's a stalwart at a good club (that didn't make the 8) and was once an All Australian defender (in an era when AA defender selections rarely take into account actual defending ability).

People see him break the lines and kick the odd goal from 50.

Is he an upgrade on:

Dunn? No.

McDonald? No.

Jetta? No.

Garland? On this years form anyone is. At their best I'd take Garland.

Howe? Not sure, but it would let him go forward and take hangers of H's moon balls.

Terlich? Absolutely.

(We'll assume Frawley has f_ed off)

EDIT: I forgot Grimes. Better defender, courage and presumably a better leader. I'd prefer Lumumba with ball in hand. I think Collingwood would prefer Grimes on their list.

So he's definitely better than Terlich. What a pick up.

Roos doesn't like forwards that don't defend, I fail to see why he wants a defender that can't defend.

And I'm not exaggerating, he plays loose to begin with, and one on one he's terrible.

I don't know of possible better recruits that are available other than possibly Malceski. I'm just commenting on Lumumba because he is available and likely, and I know enough about him to hate the idea of recruiting him.

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
