Reports coming out of Collingwood that Bally is being pushed out of the Pies but has said he wants to play on. I know when he left the Saints there was some talk about him coming to Melbourne as we controlled the picks in the draft.

Anyway, wondering whether he could be a target for us at seasons end. He is a brilliant leader with a very strong work ethic. Premiership player, captain - I reckon he fits the bill.

For the same reasons that Collingwood is pushing him out, I don't think we can really pick him up. His body is not up to the rigours of AFL footy anymore and he's at best an average kick. If we bring players into the club we need more in the 22-25 age group.

I agree Chook, even if we take him pre season draft or late pick or trade for him, I reckon his leadership and experience would be a serious asset to us.

I just want someone that can kick the Ball and that's not Luke. If we look to Demonland for recruiting it seems we will have a team of pensioners, all good leaders running around next year. Look to who is the current Luke Ball and get him now while he's only 25-26yo.

By the way, the mention of Judd in another post. He's not over the line yet and I wouldn't be backing his body in, 2 games and maybe another pre season is a long way to go.

Should've take him in 2009 at pick 18, when he had currency.

I agree. We should have stood up and picked him then. Had it been the other way around, Coll wouldn't have given a second thought to cutting our lunch. Who'd we get at 18? Was it Tappy? Sheesh! What a draft that was for us.... Sculldog, Trenners, Gys, Tappy. Gawn may prove to be the best of them.

Nope. Didn't want to come to us back then can get stuffed now. Get your retirement fund elsewherre

People have very short memories. This guy refused to have a meeting with us when we were trying to chase him.

So he can get stuffed for all I care. Struggled this year anyway. Body is shot.

Do you blame him for not wanting to come to us then? I certainly don't blame him.

Still a better kick than over half our list at the moment.

seeing how this mob of current players are still showing a big resistance to chasing, winning hard ball & pushing thru pain to win games, then Yes,,, Ball, RO'K, we need leaders out there to change this rotten culture that has dogged us for 40 odd years of our time since the last premiership in '64.

near enough isn't a good enough attitude for our kids to learn from one another.

we need the best leaders we can get to help Nat Jones & others coming thru our quagmire to learn the right ways & help guide onfield. How many list rebuilds do we the supporters need to go thru, before we wake up that the poison is in us all. its been adopted by us in everything we've consumed over 40 - 50 years, so that we don't recognise its there.

we need all the outside help we can muster to help sort it out, starting with the best leaders we can acrue.

think about that vision BB.... its dads army that we've been for so so long, & the reason is we have had these guys running us for near 50 yrs.comedy_map_dads_army_mn1.jpg

its time to make a change to watt these fellas have taught this club, over that time.

we need outside leaders to come in & take over the culture to remedy it & to set new standards, before we bring in more lambs to be the fodder of soft.

we all think a new culture will be dropped of on our door step in a sack, by the stork of competitiveness.

it doesn't work that way, its good genes & great parenting & having excellent older siblings & role models that guide the way forward... good or bad depends on the mature leaders, & they are only as good as the things they've learnt.

For a list as directionless as us, this guy is worth his weight in gold.

Can you imagine our first-year recruits stepping out onto the training track with Cross, Ball and O'Keefe? Talk about filling the leadership vacuum.

We're not talking about David Rodan here - it's Luke Ball - A former premiership player and captain for a team that consistently played finals.

If the guy doesn't play a game, the effect he'll have on guys like Toumpas, Salem, Kent, JKH et al will be immeasurable.

Also with all the talk about wanting to turn the list over, but not being able to bring in quality to justify it, tell me Ball isn't an option?

Would you prefer Luke Ball on our list or Sam Blease.

Please.

If comparatively fit..... Ball

He may come dirt cheap. its not cut and dried.

Again I defer to our FD.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
