Pick 2 on The Table Again

You're still missing the point.

We won't develop anyone properly without support from quality mature players.

We will still draft players this year, just like last year, but who is going to carry the load and teach players like Salem, Toumpas, JKH, Tyson, Hunt, Harmes etc? Nate Jones by himself?

Maybe Nate Jones needs to get his Bachelor of Early Childhood so he can lead our team.

On a serious note...we need more than 1 good player.

If we have the chance to bring in multiple good players with each of our early picks we should do it....its called building a TEAM...and currently our team is being carried by too few.

Not surprising.

Melbourne is very much in a situation Sydney was in when he arrived. Sydney is constantly in a struggle in they absolutely need to remain competitive at all times to stay viable as a business. Melbourne is well beyond the point of needing to start winning games and relying on the draft simply won't help when the team lacks actual winners among its ranks.

I would compromise for a trade for GWS talent, though. But we need genuine, pure talent, no gambles like Toumpas, and try to build this club up as quickly as possible.

Unfortunately it's reached a point now where if the club can't win more than 6 games next season, it's going to very quick dive back into the red as sponsors and members jump off.

We keep hearing that this change won't happen over night, but I feel the club no longer has a choice: it needs to get talent in as quickly as possible. Talent that has been in the AFL system and has had to work through it. Even getting fringe GWS players would be good because they're blokes that have worked to get into the team but can't. Tyson is an example.

We won't develop them properly without quality peak age players to carry the load and teach the kids.

All I remember Roos saying about last year's draft was that they rated the top 10 all pretty evenly, never read anything about "no big bodied mids", but feel free to provide a link/source, cos right now I think you're making it up.

Wrong again Stuie!

http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2013-11-04/trade-period-was-a-success-roos

"We think pick two is going to be a good player, but having a guy that’s two years older, and a bigger body and a bigger midfielder – most of the top end players in the draft are smaller mids. On the back of Jack and Jimmy last year, we need some size and real strength, so getting Dom was fantastic.” - Roos.

You having trouble with those "I was wrong" words again Stu?

Afraid you were!

Wrong again Stuie! You selectively edited quotes to suit your argument. You claimed DD36 made it up. Wrong!

I said "provide a link/source cos right now I think you're making it up".

That's called asking for proof, not saying you're totally wrong and I say so.

Why do you follow me around? Isn't BBO giving you enough attention anymore?

You're forgetting the "quality" part.

We have 1 (arguably) top quality player on our list, Jones.

Wouldn't be half surprised if he takes off as a FA next year. If Roos suspects this im sure Roos will put him up for trade also. His already insinuated that it could be the case going forward in a few pressers.

Yeah that's a scary thought isn't it?

Nah I don't think Jones would ever leave us

People said the same about Frawley. Jones hasn't extended yet and its about now that the other clubs will begin to circle.

Going to miss out on potential superstar for another run of the mill hard working midfielder.

When we drafted Tyson I said he would be in the top 5 mids in the AFL in the next couple of years, he's well on the way.

The kid has just ticked over 30 games and will be top 2 in our B&F, has enormous upside. His strength in the contest is amazing, watching him wrestle the ball with Mummy a few times and break even the other day. Wait till he has a couple of preseasons and spends a bit of time building some core strength in the gym.

I get that we need to draft real talent, for last years trade to be a real win we need to see the best of Salem. His illness preseason has put him back a fair way but there are big wraps on the kid.

Don't worry about Tyson 'ol', he's a star in the making and exceeded all expectations of the so called experts this year.

Hawks have Hodge and Mitchell slowing up and will be all over Jones as will Richmond Carlton and Essendon who he would fit right into.

It has to be done...we need ready made players who can help win games...

We no longer have the luxury of waiting...wait any longer & the heart will not beat true any more....

Roos has only 2 more years...this one is a write off

Who are the possible 'Tyson's' on the Gold Coast list that we might be able to trade Pick 2 for, given they have another year of pre-season over GWS under their belt?

To be honest, the team doesn't even need to tank to finish last.

If it finishes last, gets a priority pick plus Frawley compo, it could have picks 1 2 and 3. I doubt priority selection will be top 10, though, maybe top 15.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
