Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

One thing for sure is that GWS will trade off quality kids for at least another 2 or three years - maybe more. There will be quality kids not getting a go and at the same time they will want to keep bringing in new early picks (eg Boyd and Kelly) to maintain list quality and spread the age out profile out. They could be the proverbial juggernaut!!!! They had 3 first rounders last draft including pick 1 & 2.

Bringing in Shaw, Mumford etc keeps some kids out. I would not be surprised if we traded our 1st rounder for a GWS player who??? Wait and see.

The player will not be established but like Tyson will have a couple of preseasons under the belt and silky skills.

We must trade hard over the next 2 years waiting for first rounders to make it has hurt this club

Much better to go after known quantities when you can> We are likely to have a pick in the first 3 or 4 this year and I would be hoping we use it to get a ready made

Not this year, if we have an early pick we need to use it. Some top talent in this draft at the top end.

Trade a 2nd or 3rd round pick for another Vince/Michie type deal.

Couldn't agree more. If we improve and are off the nose, looking sound financially and with a good coach in Roos, we will be able to do a couple more of those types of deals.

Once again for those interested. A mate of mine who has seen a lot of Salem's games, is certain we have landed a gem. He also believes our deal for pick 2 was an absolute winner for us getting Tyson and Salem.

Lets just hope it doesn't pay off too obviously in the short term, making them hesitant for a similar deal at season's close!

Also in our favour with GWS, I think, is that we've dealt with them rather quickly and amicably in the past 2 off-seasons.

Early trade period deals with a minimum of fuss and/or toing and froing.

Hogan, Barry & pick 20 for picks 3 & 13 was relatively quick & clean.

As was obviously Tyson & pick 9 for pick 2 & 23.

Another this year would be amazing.

Say Plowman & pick 20 for picks 6 & 26. Ish.

I forgot Daniher and Viney as well as Crouch and O'Meara ahead of of O'Rourke. He's really the 6th best talent from his draft year as of the draft. Explains why Toumpas isn't perfect either I think.

I think GWs have worked out to trade their homebound players while under contract so they cant hold them over a barrel when their contract expires ie. Caddy. They'd have a good handle on the players they cant convince to stay so why the hell not trade them as they did with Tyson, rather than leaving it another year when they possibly might've only been able to deal with Richmond. Worked for GWS with pick 2 and it worked for us - trade-wise. We should also factor in that there wont be too many homesick players demanding to be traded only to the MFC when they're out of contract so this brings opportunities.

If it is a GWS strategy and it makes some sense - no doubt we'll be on the lookout for more.

especially if we continue to trade with GWS. our early pick for one of they're players wanting to come home. we can still win on their rebounds.

I'll just be pleased when GWS isn't holding the competition to ransom because of the huge advantages continually heaped upon them. Make no mistake, if they don't experience success in 5 years the afl will change the rules so that they do.

I wonder if we could land plowman and orourke? Probably cost us our first pick and more but two very good young players.

Are they?

They were picked high, but I've yet to see any video to suggest they are more than average footballers. The high end talent in that draft looking bad seems very poor and some blokes who fell in the draft really shouldn't have.

I watch GWS every week, and regularly follow the UWS team as I have a friend playing for them and if we think getting one of these two would be comparable to getting another Tyson, you'll be sorely disappointed.

I watched quite alot of both in their junior days and they showed plenty, not sure why some players don't prosper as much at the giants

Funny, has happened at Melbourne quite a bit too haha.

I hold more hope for O'Rourke than Plowman, but he's one of those classic players who isn't enough of a ball winner ala Greene to find his own footy at AFL Level, yet doesn't have speed or an enormous tank to spread at the next level either. He seems to post good numbers in the NEAFL comp, yet I don't find his actual output particularly damaging.

If we could get him for pick 30-40 I'd be all for it, I think there's something there..

But from what he's shown so far, just don't think he'd be worth a Rd 1 draft pick.

Perhaps it's because the team is chock full of fl0gs who were all high draft picks, used to running around as the kings of the kids and not understanding that they are now playing along side men.

The ones we need to target are the ones who are not slagging off and just want to play football, like Dom Tyson.

Didn't realise until a recent interview that Tyson had another two years on his contract and was happy to stay around when we traded for him, which I guess means we targeted him specifically and didn't just ask GWS who do you have that wants to come home? It's impressive recruiting.

I agree with the posters who don't want to put O'Rourke or Plowman in the same basket as Tyson because they were probably taken a little high. Plowman was rated a top 20 talent pre-draft. But then, I was unimpressed with the Tyson deal at the start of the year so what do I know?

Plowman was rated pretty highly, but missed most of his draft year with injury (elbow I believe). Melbourne were extremely high on him, and would have been in the mix if we didn't trade into the mini draft. Was a key defender with dash and excellent rebounding ability, and a there was a feeling he could be developed into a tall midfielder.

The general feeling is that he'd probably have more suitors in the off season than O'Rourke.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
