We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

Changes vs Hawthorn

Yup, here it is: the epitome of threads that don't matter.

I'm genuinely terrified about this game.

Out: Tapscott

In: Cross

I know it's hardly ringing in the changes, but as tempting as it is to drag in class ball users like Nicholson and Matt Jones from Casey...

Gosh I'm ready for this season to finish now.

If I were a gambling man I'd put a healthy wager on Bail not being dropped. Will be a 22 game club member this year.

Yeah, probs right there Nash, I'm more saying what I'd like rather than what i think will probably happen. Thought Bail was terrible yesterday though.

Feel for Gawny, has put together some good form but just can't have Gawn, Jamar, and Pedersen in the same team.

Grimes might come back too I suppose.

Cross should have played ysterday. We needed his leadership and experience.

A very poor decision.

Michie and Strauss both deserve a call based on consistent VFL form the last couple of weeks. Id rather Michie in then Riley after yesterday's effort. Strauss to give us some composure and straight kicking ofr half back.

Do you think he wouldn't have if he was safe enough fitness wise? Coming off a pretty full on injury.

I didn't think Riley's game was a complete bust. I know there was that one shocker to Viney but on balance I thought he was okay.

He also had 5 tackles and 7 and 7 the two weeks prior. I can't see Roos being in a hurry to give those sorts of numbers up.

Same here. I thought he showed improvement yesterday, took a couple of really nice grabs, tackled hard, and I've heard a few people complaining about him and thought I was taking crazy pills.

In: speed, goal kicking practice (screw the sports scientists)

Out: One way running and poor disposal and the trend of attempting a torpedo but shanking it out of defence to reset your zone before the opposition come back into their 50.

In: Salem -Start him as sub - JKH to the forward line. Tell him to crumb at dawes feet for 75% of the game.

Mitchie - Start him HFF - need presence when we have numbers back and look up the gorund to see Dawes in a 3 on 1 - has the body to provide a lead up option.

Cross - Start in the centre

M. Jones - Wing - run the lines between the arcs.

Out: Terlich - No impact. Head is over the ball but terrible when he has it.

Blease - May take the game on but doesn't know how to read the game or use his pace to defend.

Watts - No impact, no desire, would be better @ Adelaide (and we'll give you a first rounder as well for Paddy Dangerfield)

McKenzie - May be a prettygood tagger but he's slow, a terrible kick and as for that shot on goal..

I keep Riley in as he busts his gut and he’s still has value.

It's probably time to see what Mitchie can do, but the Hawks will be a big assignment. It will be good to get Cross back and maybe Strauss deserves a run.

Sammy is gone along with Tap I would think, they just can't impact a game at all.

Mckenzie out for Cross can't play both and Cross is far better

Blease had your chance were okay against Port but you didn't grab the bull by the horns and seize the opportunity like Jetta has. Your card should be marked been in long enough and just wont run both ways. JKH to start in your place

Tapscott on thin ice showed a bit against Port and still more upside than Blease but ruthlessness is required now so may be to late

Terlich depending upon Grimes injury status may or may not stay in, caused issues again with his disposal but his effort and intercepts in the first 3/4 were okay

Out:

Mckenzie, Blease & Tapscott

Ins:

Cross, Michie & Salem

I would add a couple PSD, Yes I know Roos does not change many.

How is Bail still in? has done SFA for weeks now

Gawn for Jamar how could Gawn be worse than Jamar?

Blease - They have said all year his defensive skills were not up to it and that showed today - papers stamped - NEVER to play again

McKenzie - A tagger with the worst disposal in the AFL - cant play on the pacier midfielders in the comp or the taller mids ( Pendles, Kennedy etc) VFL from here until his contract expires. We wont delist as he is back up for Cross against injury - DUD all the same.

Tapscott - Is hard at it and can use the ball OK but cant kick the goals when needed and his injury prone body and inconsistency makes him undependable - NEVER to play again.

I actually dont care and have a terrible feeling that this game will be a disater for the club. A win yesterday would have allowed the upcoming thumping to be absorbed better but I think we are looking at a 100 point plus loss. Getting Cross back will be a good thing but we will be lucky to kick 4 goals for the game and they are likely to get 100 plus points.

The only option is to make the game a defensive slog to minimise the damage but all our mids will have play out of there skin.

ryay next week is not an assignment it is a suicide mission! Agree Blease just doesn't have it upstairs, all the speed and agility in the world but no vision or poise. Tappy was vomiting in the second quarter yesterday before he twisted his knee so maybe there is a reason for his performance but will probably be out injured anyway. I would limit the changes as next week will be ugly, best to keep some the young ones out of it.

Listening to the game on radio and not having seen any of it or read anything else about it, it's interesting how some players names get called regularly and others barely at all. Suggests to me the ones who's names are called regularly are working harder to get where the ball is although sometimes they make poor decisions and execution errors when (or if) they get the ball.

The players who - according to the radio call - seemed to be always in the game (in no particular order) were Jones, Tyson, McDonald, Howe, Vince, Terlich, Frawley, Jetta, Dawes and Bail. More importantly, the ones who's names rarely got called included Tapscott, Blease, McKenzie, Pedersen, Riley and Watts.

I would have thought the changes might come from this last group. If there are no injured players needing time out, perhaps Gawn should come in for Pedersen and Cross for McKenzie. I'd rather give Blease and Tapscott another chance than replace them with someone who's card is already marked - one way or the other.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
