Our game against the Dogs saw us concede the third highest score any opposition side has managed this year. But we also scored our second highest.

Pressure and intensity will be absolute keys.

Cross out kills us, especially against the Bulldogs, a side that, if nothing else, competes really well at contested ball.

They've got some big outs which evens the ledger slightly, but losing the importance of Cross combined with our depth being so bad gives me a really sick feeling about one of what may really only be three winnable games left.

If Griffen was playing I'd be bracing myself for Nicholson, but with him out, surely we do not need to resort to Nicholson for a run-with role.

Roos may well bring Terlich back and swap him with Grimes to use Grimes on Liberatore or someone else in the middle. I wouldn't like that, but if Terlich is the best bet of the players out of the 22, then that may be one option.

Garland is coming off an injury interrupted pre-season, it was not going to be easy for him to slip right in.

He has plenty of credits earned and is a leader, he is a long way from being dropped.

There's the ol' demonland special.

'Injury interrupted pre-season'

I'd love to know how that has anything to do with footy smarts, decision making and kicking skills.

Not saying he should be dropped, but can we please refrain from those sorts of comments..

Garland is part of a worryingly long list of players who have questionable kicking skills and decision making skills.

You obviously didn't see Nicholsons game on the ABC last week.

Sure didn't.. But i did see the special on Jake Best.. Who we should of picked up.. Will be spewing if another club takes him..

IN: Blease, Michie, Terlich

OUT: McKenzie (susp), Riley, Salem

FB: Garland, Dunn, Jetta

HB: Grimes, McDonald, Terlich

C: M. Jones, Michie, Tyson

HF: Watts, Frawley, Bail

FF: Pedersen, Dawes, Kent

FOLL: Jamar, Cross, N. Jones

INT: Howe, Vince, Viney

SUB: Blease

EMERG: Gawn, Riley, Toumpas

Given the news of the Cross injury I'd need to make a further change.

IN: Blease, Michie, Nicholson, Terlich

OUT: Cross (inj), McKenzie (susp), Riley, Salem

FB: Garland, Dunn, Jetta

HB: Grimes, McDonald, Terlich

C: M. Jones, Michie, Nicholson

HF: Watts, Frawley, Bail

FF: Pedersen, Dawes, Kent

FOLL: Jamar, Tyson, N. Jones

INT: Howe, Vince, Viney

SUB: Blease

EMERG: Gawn, Riley, Toumpas

With Cross injured and McKenzie rubbed out with his carless act we suddenly don't have anyone to use as a tagger if the situation calls for it. This is where I think Nicholson could grab an opportunity. Think he's had stints in this role before with limited success, but now under Roos who knows how he could go? He'll also help give us a bit more run and he's had solid form at Casey all year so probably deserves the chance.

Evans (for McKenzie as a tagger, time to try something new for Evans)

This could also work instead of my suggestion of Nicholson, possibly even a better option.

No you won't, there are reasons he hasn't been picked up by other clubs previous to this season after nominating for the draft last year

Not an avid reader of the Club website then? Evans had a tagging role a couple of weeks ago, and he was solid according to Brett Allison

Griffen is still a chance to play.

Mark Stevens tweeted that he'll be tested at training on Thursday,

Griffen won't play, I reckon he's out for at least 2 games

Having just read Brett Allison's comments on our players in the VFL, I'm reasonably confident we'll play one man short against the Bulldogs with Terlich and no-one else coming in for McKenzie and Cross.

Or are we going to get a smokey and see Barry..?

Dom Barry: Dom played wing and had eight possessions. He had a negating run-with role on Sam Iles, who has been averaging around 30 possessions per week. Dom did a very, very good job. He was disciplined, stuck to his task and tried to run both ways. Dom also kept his opponent to little to no impact on the day. It was a good effort.

Not letting the facts get in they way of a good story... there's another ol' Demonland special

Garland did have an injury interrupted pre-season, in what was a silly decision not to have his operation immediately after last year's season, particularly when it was known he was carrying that issue for a while.

Whilst his return has been in poor form, and rusty, Garland is a good player.

I put this in my training report the other day, the FD is pleased with Dom's progress, he has been given negating roles in the last couple of weeks and he is getting a good handle on it, maybe not enough weeks of consistency yet, but Dom told me he is enjoying the roles he has been given, and really would like to debut this season, think the club is working on him, only just turned 20, so there is a lot of upside if they 'build' him properly...saying that would love to see him this week.....

I read somewhere its a recurrence of a back injury that kept him out of a big chunk of preseason

Surely wont be risked this week

Yeah just finished reading it myself. Even guys who I'd of thought would be certain starters like Michie & Blease don't sound like they're sure things to come in.

So Terlich & someone else... As another poster mentoned, potentially Barry to play a run with role on Macrae possibly?

Based on the Allison report, it's hard to go past Dom Barry as an inclusion this week. Roosy loves role players, and it seems that Dom played his role really well for Casey. Terlich, who didn't play VFL last weekend, will be the other inclusion (already foreshadowed by Roos). Given the glaring shortcomings on display at Casey on Sunday, it's hard to see see more than the two compulsory changes for the Dees, even though Salem, Riley and a few others showed very little against North.

Interesting.

I agree Roos is not a change for change's sake type of Coach. I cant see more than 2 effective change myself though he might play with the sub's role

I feel that we must find a genuine crumber in the forward line. Our talls need support. We gave up so many rebounds out of our own fifty last week. Also, who gets Crameri? He flogged us last time.

Dunn got him last time, i reckon we will probably go with Dunn again and Mcdonald on Jones

I havent seen a VFL game - I just read the reports - my only question on Barry - does he touch the footy enough - it doesnt seem so to me in the VFL from what I have read,

First up, let me admit that I listened to the last 20mins on the radio while I was doing something else and didn't watch any vision of the game.

But I do recall whoever was commentating saying something about him beating McDonald the full length of the ground to get to a ball, and banging on about how Tom was supposed to be Melbournes best runner, so that illustrates what an athelete Crammeri is.

As I said I didn't watch or listen to the whole game so Tom may have only had him for 5 mins, anyone else please chip in.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
