Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 15

Demonland

Recommended Posts

- pretty darn ordinary performances the last 3 weeks (in major parts of games at least)

- a couple of important injuries (and always the danger of more, of course)

- a fairly young side, running out of gas a bit, had a lot of hype around them etc

- a very tough draw to come

after r23 we might not be feeling as good about Roosy's demons as we were after the Port game is all I'm saying

I dont expect any real success for much of the rest of season. You be blinking batty to think that. But I look at it as a real insight in who'll be given a tick, and who'll get the flick !!

Don't know how well Libba can be tagged, due to the fact that it isn't the outside ball the he harms teams from but rather his contested stoppage work.

It's been a while since I've seen anybody at MFC dive head first at a contested ball with as little regard for his own health than Riley. He just doesn't care if somebody else's head is in the way, if he can see the ball, he dives at it. Could negate Libba a bit if we get on it first.

Dom Barry making his debut this week! Congratulations to the great man

great news!!!

Always exciting when there is a debutante, and Roos doesn't hand out games so hes clearly deserved a call up

Give them hell Dom

might very well be. Our choices are somewhat limited. Roos ( happy birthday by the way ) I feel would rather stay defensive and lock him down as much as can than the other side of Jones which is sorta creative.. Less is more so to speak.

Yeah I agree.. With griffen and cooney out libba is there match winner, if jones can nullify him it'll go a long way to winning the game. Also I know libba leads the AFL in tackles but I reckon on the spread Jones could expose him. As I said Picken will go to jones anyway so maybe best way to free jones up is him to go to libba

Luke Tapscott has replaced Tom McDonald in the Melbourne side for Sunday's game. #AFLDogsDees

* That's not an official club tweet BTW

edit: they've just changed 'side' to 'squad'...

If this is correct, what's the point of naming three emergencies on the Thursday? Can anyone explain from a process point of view what clubs are allowed to do when naming squads? For example, can we change the squad of 25 named players up until a specific time (say 5.00 pm Friday for a Sunday game) but then have to select the final 22 from that squad? It all seems a bit unstructured to me.

Great vote of confidence that Salem keeps his spot when he under-performed and was subbed out last week.

Starting to see how this Roos thing works ...

While it's suspiciously similar to the old "getting games into the kids" mantra, in this instance I'm willing to go with it for the time being. The Roos-era Swans were known for their lack of team changes from week to week.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
