The Frawley Domino

Geez.....You've got to be kidding me.....Some people would trade Frawls for a pick 5,an 18 years old kid that will take 3 to 4 years to develop over a 100 game player who has been AA......The mind bogles.....

Not necessarily... the pick 5 could be traded for Dylan Shiel who would meet our needs quite nicely

Big experienced players that have proved themselves.....worth a lot

What if Dunn goes down or McDonald?.....You can't replace key position players with mid fielders no matter how good they are.

I used 'slam dunk' as a reference to CIA head Tenet's assertion that the case for Iraq having WMD.

No-one probably got it, but talking in blanket terms of fact when there are no hard facts - is not a good practice.

And people use those US terms because they can't be bothered thinking up ones themselves, and because the US sporting landscape is far more developed. Concepts like FA and equalisation will only continue to be brought up.

Well lets hope that we don't get "tip off" instead of ball up, and don't get cheerleaders running on to the "pitch" after every goal, or even the horrible obnoxious ghastly blaring "music" after a basket ball goal :-((((((

Which is why we are fortunate that the club had more foresight than all most of us here and retained and progressed Pedersen. A club needs a solid big (or nearly big) man who can play at either end.

It will make Frawley all the more valuable should he choose to remain a Demon during our forthcoming years of progression and success.

Could add Georgiou to that emergency list also.

Hes Goneski. its extremely obvious

If he was 'goneski' then it was not extremely obvious to his teammates who voted him back into the leadership group. I cannot believe that things are continually 'obvious' to some Demonlanders but excape the attention of Roos and those inside the actual Club?

Who is saying they've escaped the attention of Roos? Who is saying the decision was made by frawley before he was voted in to the leadership group?

Maybe you can outline some of the things what makes it so 'obvious' as it eludes me?

Such sit back and watch it play out, CBDees.

There were posters like you who were adamant Watts was off last year.

Your opinion is not based on anything other than your own exposed neurosis.

You've gone early on this, and you've gone all in.

Now you're in a position where you're just going hard in an effort to look like you actually have any idea.

Give it up. You'll only make yourself look like (more of) a DH.

Garry Lyon (last night FC) gave the most honest brutal assessment on James Frawley that I have ever witnessed on a professional media outlet. It really hit the nail on the head. Amazing how some wackos on these forums hit it years earlier.

Link? Summary?

Can someone here get the link?

Basically said that:

Frawley was a horrible kick (cross)

Frawley was a horrible decision-maker (cross)

Frawley was elite reading a ball coming in long and could body an opponent. (tick)

In relation to Geelong and Hawthorn, it should be buyer-beware squared.

There must be history behind Lyons comments. I'd say he knows he's going and there's background to the decision we don't know.

I've been a defender of Chip on this forum as a footballer but always felt sure he made the decision to leave ages ago ala $cully. Also hated the way he used the successor issue as a smokescreen.

Now I'm over him and couldn't care less if he goes. We don't need manipulators as part of our culture. If he hasn't bought in by now then bugger off.

No surprises that Gary has chipped in, (excuse the pun)..

I'm sure now that we've had someone of 'some' level of stature criticise his performance, posters will start looking at the bloke with keener eyes.

It's funny what one 'All Australian Year' does for supporters perceptions. It's as if the player is suddenly put in an elite bracket whereby no matter how they perform from then on, there'll always be the 'he's our AA fullback' comments which count for absolutely zilch when we're talking about the here and now. His form at present.

It's the very thing that supporters who don't want to see him go are continually blinded by. One good year of performance.

As a leader of a team who are crying out for a culture change and for leaders to set the highest of standards, Frawley is failing big time. One thing I know for certain we haven't done well in the past when it comes to recruiting is identifying strong personalities with an intense and burning desire to do everything they can to get the most out of themselves which over years rubs off on others..

Frawley is one of many who doesn't have the capacity as a human being to realise this and it's extremely unfortunate for us as a club as you build clubs around personalities like Dawes', Jones', Viney', Hogan' etc..

Frawley, as player and onfield performer at PRESENT is absolutely without doubt overrated by the same posters who throw the 'he's an AA fullback' line. The fact he has put off contract talks is not the issue and not one that bothers me or many other, including Gary I'm sure. The issue is that as a 26-27 year old player who is in the leadership group, Frawley has already stated some unbelievably stupid things to the media in regards to 'what he wanted to see from the club/what he wants to see'. Initially it was where the club was heading. (Clearly, it's north). Secondly he wanted to know about Roos. (Who has already stated he'll be around after a successor takes over). He's also trowb in some gems about the fact that finals is draw card for him to leave, yet I've heard him state 'we'll hopefully be playing finals within the next couple of years'. And then of course there's his 'loyalty as a country boy' line.

If Frawley had even the faintest of ideas, he'd either shut his gob and play like somebody who drives standards at a club, or he'd at least choose his words much more carefully then he has.

He is dumb. He is not as skilled as people believe. He's decision making and kicking are absolutely without doubt questionable at times and lastly, he is clearly still affected by the old Melbourne.

I'm not sure what will happen, but I'd take the compo pick in a heart beat if I had the choice.

I really like this paragraph as it sums up how I feel about Chip as well. As a person within our leadership group I think he hasn't handled this situation well at all - he's happy to be a leader but won't fully commit to the club long term. There's something horribly wrong with that. He wanted to see the direction, which we've answered, and wanted to see Roos around long term (will probably be 3 years and then he will be around after that) but he keeps coming up with other excuses and such that will help him walk away with a supposed clear conscience.

I like Chip and think he still brings something to the table, but not for 600k+ a year. Where that goes from here is anybodies guess.

I will respond to the last comments - dumb ? tick. Not as skilled as people believe - body on body and position for marking - i think he is skilled as he showed at times on Sunday. Decision making and kicking are dicey ? tick. Affected by the old Melbourne - not even sure what that means - if you are suggesting he is not embracing what Paul Roos is trying to do then why is he in the team Look back at Casey and Sam Blease - he is in the best players every week but can't get a game in the 1st - reading the Allison critique I would suggest that he has had trouble with the Roos way.

I don't want him to go but if he decides to go then I am more than happy with a first round draft pick.

Where we completely differ is that you see what Frawley is now and believe that's all we are going to get. I see Frawley as player 14 games into a new coaching regime and have belief that he could be much better.

Even if he goes, time will tell if he has lots of upside or not.

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
