Indispensable, and i hope he signs.

We havent required him down back and we need him down forward where he has been ok.

I don't think his body language has been bad this year and no one can be blamed for dropping their heads towards the end of last years debacle ( well they can be blamed but it is semi understandable)

They are totally different people so that's a bit unfair.

Chip will be invaluable if Hogan doesn't come up or if we have an injury down back, he's a lot better footballer than he's given credit for on this forum.

We can't continually lose good experienced players if we want to climb up the ladder and if our senior players leave, what signal does that send to anyone we chase.

I think he's worth maybe a pick in the top 10, but he has the added value of being ready to go right now.

He's in his absolute prime, and giving a valuable contribution in a completely foreign role.

As much as I love an early draft pick, I don't want to start again with this one.

He's exactly what we'd hope to be getting, without the wait.

I am of the opinion that once Hogan returns he is better off to us on the opening market to trade for another gun midfielder at years end. He is a backman playing as a forward (Doing a great job mind you) however he has missed numerous shots that a gun forward would and should kick. Why would we pay well over his worth as a second string forward - if that is where Roos is going to play him ? Use his market worth as a great backline player to the many teams that will screaming for a key backman at years end ( Freo, Hawthorn, Geelong, West Coat)

Would we entertain for example a trade to WC for Shuey and their first pick in exchange for one of our later picks?

It all seems a little like Hawthorn last year , how the moved away from being so reliant on Buddy as a forward option as they new he was moving on. Play Frawley as a forward increase his market worth , knowing you have Hogan in the bank and a draft coming up that is stacked with quality Key forwards to choose from.

He is playing the hardest position on the ground and averaging over 8 marks a game. Now i know we chip the ball around a lot but he didnt average that in his AA year.

I seriously believe people are marking him down because of him not signing a new contract.

I would love to here Roos thoughts on giving him a pay cut and picking up 5 as compensation.

I suspect he may have a different view.

Spot on, mate. People are trying to detach themselves from him, but it's all defence mechanism. Frawley would get a game in any team in the comp.

C graders. Frawley has line-breaking ability and is probably our best one-on-one defender. No need for Terlich.

Lets take this further,

Several clubs need a key defender.

Frawley is not a forward and is now not our best defender, we can live without him.

We get compensation maybe pick 5 after our 1st pick 4?

Are we better of without him?

We could offer a pay cut, make him move and still get pick 5.

And then Dawes has soft tissue issues next year and we leave Hogan to struggle up forward on his own assuming he can get back on he park too. Frawley is a required player, if he leaves we will get compensated but we would be stupid to push him out the door.

Then we can free Howe up to become the 2 way weapon playing on a wing which is where I think he should settle long term.

All depends on Garland, Dunn and Grimes' ability to do enough attacking footy, otherwise we are better with Howe down back. But I think Garland once fit becomes a two way player. Dunn playing on lesser forwards can back himself more and Grimes is starting to turn the corner. Frawley isn't a great kick but his run from the backline is his way of attacking. He can turn a contest won 30 out from goal with a fast straight run and long kick to a CHF. Plus if he has talent around him he doesn't have to concern himself so much with pin point kicking.

And he's now played enough forward that he can be used as a swing man if we want to mix something up.

Anyway the main reason I want to keep Frawley is to establish a culture of players staying.

Grimes doesnt quite do it for me OD He really needs to build some strength for contested footy I hope he gets in the Gym and works hard

Needs to get a good porterhouse or two into him, I'm not surprised he gets pushed off the ball so easily when he subsists on salads and legumes.

Two months ago I thought Frawley was a bit overrated, that there was a bit of man crush going around.

Now it seems I'm one of the people rating him higher than most.

Right now he is an incredibly rare player - truly capable of influencing a game as a key forward or as a key defender.

His contribution this season has been huge. And I really dispute the comments about him dropping off when things go against us. I'd go so far as to say that's cr4p.

Stopped reading after Dunn being better than Frawley in his AA year. Frawley was an absolute beast that year. I honestly haven't seen a full back so dominant since. But unfortunately Chip is only a shadow of that player these days, still handy, but nowhere near that level.

I think Frawley has been brilliant this year and still can't understand why people want him traded?

Once Hogan comes back in Frawley and again strengthens our already strong backline. Dunn would take third man and even be more dangerous.

He still has a good 7 years left of footy.

Can't imagine the long term plan with Frawley is as a forward. Between Frawley, Dunn, and macdonald there's a threesome able to deal with most matchups. Frawley and Dunn provide two way play that's significant for forcing opponents to expend energy paying them attention.

Required player. Shudder to think we put too much responsibility on TMac next year....talking about potentially overpriced contracts, reckon some team out there could force a big overpay for Tom (400k)...would rather have Frawley for 600k-650.
