Yeah the logo can go but I am a huge fan of the grand old flag, I'd like to see our indigenous jumper become our full time clash strip

All starts again tomorrow.

Dees by one point

though it would be mind numbingly nerve wrenching...a kick after the siren would be marvellous :)

How good would Jack watts kicking a goal after the siren be?

I still want to know who is in Collins Street that we need to tap into?

They can do whatever they want to anything at the club...except the song.

If they change the song, even one bit, I don't know what I'll do. That song is precious to me, it's one of the best in the league, it carries meaning to most of us I'm sure. It's not some half-baked rock song written in the 90s that can be altered because who cares.

you do realise where it came from....originally ? before WE altered it ...just saying

I know that but they, as in Collins Street types, are usually and have proven over the decades to be a bunch of tight arses. What will open their wallets now unless we could offer a knighthood or similar.

I reckon the song will suurvive as long as we toss out the WHITE clash strip.

Win footy games.

That is what I would say to anyone from the club who is thinking along the same lines as Bartlett here.

That story just had a mish-mash of different image devices that don't do anything bar scratch the surface of our issues; no region to call our own, a dwindling and aging supporter base, and, up to two months ago, a terrible outlook for the foreseeable future.

The emblem is a distraction. If you are going to change it, do it, don't talk about how it signifies a change in anything other than the letterhead on press releases.

The song featuring the word 'Melbourne' is such an interesting aside but any money and time spent on this in our current predicament is bordering on insane. Let Demonland start a thread and work the word in - save you a few hundred thousand dollars...

The desire for a presence in Collins St brings a word to bear - why? Hardly anyone lives there. I won't discuss this any further as 'presence' could mean anything from where he wants the boardroom to where he wants a billboard...

The statement that Casey 'is not our heartland' is ironic, well it would be if it weren't so sad, we have no heartland - that's the point; we grew out of a stadium. We have shed so many supporters in the last 49 years. We have no 'heartland.' We are trying to build one out east. If we are not going to bother with Casey anymore the players will be happy they don't have to trek out there but they better have a bloody good business case.

Nothing in that impressed me.

Winning footy games will impress me, and it might impress a few others - if you really want to be the New York Yankees - you better win.

The Yankees are 31-30 for the season so far which is average however they're the most profitable by far.

What a ridiculous article, I don't even know where to start. We want to be the Yankees do we? The same Yankees that have hundreds of thousands of fans? The same Yankees that are one of the biggest most iconic brands in the world? We may have the name Melbourne but there's at least 5 or 6 teams in this city with a bigger supporter base and a lot more cash than us. This is all pie in the sky stuff, we need to get back to reality, roll our sleeves up & win some respect & footy games.

I tend to agree - I like some of the ideas but others seem like a waste of effort/money. Having a presence in Collins Street? The most expensive location in Melbourne? What benefits will this provide? The worst part was changing the club song! We have the best song in the league, who cares if it says Melbourne in it or not! The second verse references "Demons" thats enough.

If they change the logo I wouldn't mind them sticking to the MFC monogram for official stuff and have a Demons logo for merchandising, marketing to kids etc - the Cats have two logos and it works well for them.

The Casey alignment I'm in two mids about - I hate it because I live in the north/north-west and will never head out to Casey - I also hate it that we don't have a stand alone team. But if we are making headway into the schools down there now is the exact wrong time to pull out when we have laid the ground work and the on-field performances are starting to turn around. I'd stick it out for another few years and reassess it after that.

I think the simple explanation of the reasoning Bartlett offers is that for far too long we have loitered around like some lost hobo looking for a handout, all the whiles the very town we seek to embrace carries on regardless. Its not for the town to see reason to paint itself Red and Blue its up to us to go and do it and proclaim it as our domain with all others imposters.

It requires a mindset change, a shift in scale of belief.

Sounded like a lot of hot air to me.

Smash teams and win flags is what I want to see. The rest is smoke and mirrors that means nothing.

I am sure that is top of the list. Do this and the rest is achievable.

Make the finals, maybe win a flag, post large profits like the bigger clubs, increase membership numbers significantly, attract marquee players, THEN talk big. I can imagine Coll or Haw trying this, but a club that is universally known as a struggling cellar dweller, that only exists because of large afl handouts... not yet.

Like the Anzac eve match, like the idea of keeping PR and PJ for longer term rather than for a couple of years, even like the logo to be simpler (if it doesn't cost too much).

The reference to NY Yankies, the name Melbourne in the song, the ties and uniforms are odd bits of fluff. The Collins St address is an unnecessary indulgence, unless Bartlett knows of a benefactor who's about to donate a building to the club. When was Collins St made part off our current heartland? Surely there are better value options than prime cbd real estate.

Maybe it's the way Caro has written it, but it looks much like a scattergun and often emotional range of ideas.

Nothing in it that we haven't heard at least as far back as 2008.

Although back then we were going to be Man U, not the Yankees.

Funny... those who have made it large in the world, whether it be in sport , business or just good ol money will all tell you a common idea. You need to imagine yourself in the role, on the dias as a success etc. You have to run the race in your mind and do it winning.

Some paraphrase this in a fashion as Fake it before you Make it. This , to me, is what Bartlett is doing. He's fore-visioning a Melbourne in its new and rightful place as top of the heap in the town it takes its name from.

A building is created from an idea, then a brief, a conceptual impression, drawings , plans etc. It doesnt happen by any number of construction workers banging away at some element of building in the hope that some edifice will grow from their labours its about workign to a vision.

I see nothing wrong with the club daring to create something. From ideas doth creations come, not the other way around.

Yep.

I think CS had similiar dreams but he just did it wrong.

He misread the style of player needed to climb.

Doesn't mean the long term goal cannot be achieved.

Bartlett has put it out there after a long period of silence.

He has set his agenda as President.

A successful footy team is built by winning games consistently, making finals and becoming premiers. That should be 95% of the conversation about Melbourne's future. Team success brings financial rewards and an increased fan base.

Pj said we will only again be a great footy club when we are a great footy team!

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
