A rendition of "Good Old Collingwood Forever" by the 1964 premiership team:

"""

Good Old Collingwood forever, they knew how to play the game

Side-by-side they fell together to the tune of the Demon's fame

Hear their barrackers a-squealing, like their barrackers do

All the premierships are cakewalks for the good old red and blue!

"""

A great event with 14 of the players there - all happy to talk and mingle.

See you all tomorrow - I'll be the nervous one! (MFCSS not completely cured!!)

Outstanding function . Was an amazing experience being able to mingle and chat with not only the 14 premiership heroes but many others on the list from that era such as Len Mann et al.

Yes, Great day!

Was able to get Barassi's autograph (and a much cherished photo with him  ). He put his number 31 on, then wrote the number 17410. Anyone have any ideas what 17410 might be?

Thanks all for the 17-4-10 info!.

WOW! I had forgotten the number of premierships he accumulated as a coach! Doubt any other player/coach will ever come close to 17-4-10.

Norm Smith had good numbers ... played in 6 for 4 wins, a draw and a loss. Coached in 8 for 6 wins.

14-4-10

Jock McHale for the Pies would have similar numbers (but only a total of 9 flags I believe)

And to think that Smithy may have made the 17for10 platform, if given the support? instead of the rabbit chop from behind.

From the actual Premiership side 14 players were in attendance:

Bernie Massey, Tony Anderson, Frank Davis, Brian Dixon, Bluey Adams, Bryan Kenneally, Barrie Vagg,Graeme Jacobs,

John Lord, Barry Bourke, John Townsend, RDB, Hassa Mann and Ken Emselle.

I think I got all of them. Doc Roet was in the UK, and they did a somewhat unsuccesful Skype session with Tassie

Johnson, who is struggling after recently losing a leg unfortunately. And I think Graham Wise couldnt make it there today

but will be at their lunch tomorrow. Speaking to Bryan Kenneally after the function (who along with Hassa and Dixon did the organising

for todays event), he mentioned they've also invited as many of the 2nds and 3rds from the lists that they could get in contact with, along

with spouses or offspring of deceased past players.

Also present were Ray Groom, Kerry Rattray, Garry Byers and a few others whose names escape me. They were all great blokes to chat to,

heard some fantastic anecdotes (including a still on-going fued between surviving match committee members families of the time and the Smith family).

There was an outstanding response to the event. It was sold out almost immediately. I think it reflects the members and supporters growing positive outlook for the future of our Club. If we can continue improving on field I think membership numbers for 2015 will be amazing.

Wow! What a fantastic gathering of the clan that must have been! Green with envy towards all who had the privilege of being there!

Did anyone get to speak with my name-sake? Would love to know what he's been up to...

God I feel old. Remember watching Barry Vagg, Bryan Kenneally, Dicko, hassa , Frank Davis as a kid and they're all ancient now. Time marches on. Hope I have enough time left to see a flag.

What a great bunch of blokes to chat with!! Too bad there hasnt been a following act to follow since.

I spoke to about 10 of them and all were more than willing to give up their time to a stranger.

17-4-10 is correct I asked the great man himself, then pointed out to him did he realise the 741 is also his listed number of the MFC all time players.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
