The kick from the boundary under pressure to hit Bail (I think) running into an open goal was an absolute gem. And the dragging the ball down one hand was pretty good too.

Amazing what a solid game plan, good drafting and a renowned coach can do for a club.

I'm interested in the question of the gameplan and this particular example of play. Salem's pass was executed perfectly and Bail was in the perfect position to make the most of it. However, if this had been early 2013, would Bail have been running into goal or would the coach's instructions have had him sitting on his man to defend the space? (Note: This is a serious question and not intended to be used to criticise Neeld. I just want to get a better understanding of how the gameplan has actually changed.)

No you are right one of Roh Bail's instructions is to use his running ability, but he has to go both ways, and he has to impact the scoreboard, which he is now doing on a regular basis

I don't think Bail would be defending space when we were in possession of the footy.

I know Salem had to freakishly win that 1on1 contest, but it was kicked to him by a teammate.

I'd say the difference is in confidence and clarity of what is expected of you.

Yes, a gameplan's not much use of it's not clear. I recall reading somewhere (Demonland?) that it was claimed that under the previous regime players they were getting mixed messages from the different coaches.

He looks an absolute gem, but the difference between now and previous periods in our club history is that Roos and co. aren't going to overload him. They'll keep adding to his load in small doses and let him develop in his own way.

There's something about him that screams "pure footballer".

Oh you mean Magner the guy who didn't have an axe to grind, just like Moloney, give it a rest, move on, the same Magner who wallowed in self satisfaction when Neeld was axed, sank in my estimation from that moment on

It was really created by Roos but as you say 'Sat' it is in the past. Looking forward to QB and beyond.

Seriously how classy is this bloke? I love the look of him already. The balance, composure, and nous to find Bail without making him break stride was brilliant.

Little moments like that early on in a young footballers career and you know he will be a gun. Then the hardness to bump Ebert and make space for Toumpas, to then finish off, showed the level head at that stage of the game.

I can't believe people who were questioning the deal. Tyson and Salem individually will be better footballers then Kelly IMO. Let alone both of them together.

I do wonder if the message or instruction to the players now is much simpler now and more narrow in focus. Three of 4 clear things to do and thats it ?

Does he also kick well on his non-preferred? I haven't seen the PA game and I can't recall having seen him use his right foot in the games I've seen.

Satyr - I'm sure you would have seen him use his right foot at training. Is he comfortable kicking with it?

The guy is acquitting himself pretty well already physically as well as mentally and with sound judgement and poise, in a modest manner without appearing to be getting ahead of himself in any manner.

What little I have been able to see of him excites me more than any of our first year players in my memory.

The pick up, quick thinking and pass to the running Bail was awesome; but I think even more impressive was the teaming with Toumpas, laying the solid shepherd (very un-Melbourne like pre 2014 - the Port guy actually fell over, when have we seen that from a MFC shepherd?) then running on to receive the beautifully weighted and timed pass from Jimmy (even more un-Melbourne like pre 2014).

The underlined bits are totally new to this year's team. I remain stunned by the change.

Yes, that shepherd/ bump knocked Ebert for six. How about his speed to initiate the shepherd?
