Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Selection of Paul Roos successor

Successor or not, I think if Ling decides to coach he will be at MFC next season.

He may not be our successor, or alternatively he may not be ready to be our successor after only 2 years as an assistant, but that doesn't mean any aspiring coaches would turn down the opportunity to be an assistant under Roos, one of the greatest coaches of this era, for potentially (likely) the last 2 years he is a senior coach.

To see a master at work building this sort of culture would be invaluable.

Even if he were to move on after that 2 years, or remain an assistant under someone else.

And as for the actual successor itself, I doub you'd find too many assistants who'd learned under the names Jade Rawlings has.

Eade, Laidley, Roos, Neeld, Viney, Craig, Voss, Schwab, Judge, Wallace...

Not sure what you are trying at with this bit. Some have been good/decent coaches and some not so much.

If any female deserves a coaching gig its Peta searl I think her name is. Pretty experience in terms of VFL experience with Port Melbourne and been doing it for alot of years.

I wouldn't like to see a female coach JUST BECAUSE SHE IS A WOMAN. if she is the best football coach available for a particular role, irrespective of gender, the lets go for it. I would hope we would always go for the best available for any job at the MFC.

Well if that's the case, there are some highly qualified people that will vouch for Peta Searle.

But I agree that all roles should be filled on merit.

Brett Kirk for me. Ling is a wonderful ambassador and I have I have enormous respect for him, would be a great alternate choice, but Brett Kirk's apprenticeship is further ahead. MFC not a team a talented players, just guys that need to get the most out of themselves like Kirk. Agree Lyon and Roos style is compatible.

Not on board with Voss or Worstfold at this stage, but would consider Worstfold the better. Kudos to those that've pointed out Luke Beveridge - seems a decent smokey

Roos aside, not a star studded lineup there.

Sorry, but Jade Rawlings has never impressed me too much. He seems at least 5 years from being away from being a really good footy person with universal respect. Lots of potential and some good wins, but not the type that has other clubs knocking down the door (like a Stuart Dew).

One from left field popped to mind on Saturday night wathcing Port vs Hawks as his body looks to have finally caught up with him. 2/3 years as apprentice - Luke Hodge absolute leader and has coached on field for many years

Good call but probably a year or two early, an obvious leader and champion as Roos was throughout his career. Also a very polished media performer.

Mine was neither an argument for nor against.

But Eade, Craig, Roos, Voss and Wallace are some big names, that have experienced some great successes.

So you are not impressed that in the last couple of years how he has turned Dunn into the reliable consistent defender he is, how Tom Mc is coming on leaps and bounds, Garland gone from Humprey to Leadership Group and straight back into the team when fit, ensuring the club kept Nev Jetta, a decision that is being vindicated etc etc....you must be a hard marker or alternatively not recognize a good coach, have you ever thought he is happy were he is and has no desire to thrown his hat in the ring anywhere else

Wellman was a far better backline coach. Are you saying he'd make a great senior coach? It doesn't work like that necessarily.

This is quite an easy answer. Whoever Paul Roos selects.

He's led the club revival so I would respect his opinion over anyone else.

PJ's led the revival.

Is Ling still running all those bars and bistro businesses in Geelong that Frank Costa set him up in, outside the salary cap of course? We would need a full time apprentice for Roos, one who is fully committed to coaching. Not sure that will be Ling.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
