Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

Coburg Lions v Casey Scorpions

A Georgiou clanger cost Casey the game.. Coughed it up at CHB and a coburg ran in a goal. Georgiou looked all at sea compared to when he was playing for melbourne.. Tapscotts foot skills are also very average...

Coburg take the points - disappointing for Casey which had a reasonable sized contingent of AFL players and faded out (not for the first time) after holding a five goal lead to go down to a lowly stand alone team. It's going to be a long, season ahead.

Casey 7.9.51 v Coburg 6.2.38. McKenzie, Tapscott, Evans, Michie, Nicho all good. Blease lots of the ball but few if any contested possessions. Most MFC players in the game and contributing.

So no loose ball gets or intercept marks for Blease? Everything had been passed to him by a team mate?

Very disappointing result.. shows out our depth when we lose to a dtand alone VFL side.

Could also be poor coaching, especially if there's a lack of real support for the Roos style as has been rumored before...

No, it doesn't show our (MFC) lack of depth. It shows that Casey are struggling as a team to run out games and this could be for a number of reasons that have nothing to do with depth.

The depth looks ok with McKenzie, Mitchie, Evans and Kent getting a bit of ball. Frawley, Hogan, Clark (ret), Spencer and not sure on Fitz missing does put a dint in the tall department though.

Fitzy played and did ok. He started at FF but moved into the ruck in the last. It wasn't a FF day with the quality of ball coming in, it was awful. He was very clean with his hands below his knees, marked quite well and was good when he went into the ruck against modest opposition.

Kent looks closest to me and would be a step up from Salem or Toumpas. Michie, mcKenzie and Evans could all do a capable job in the seniors but where are the spots. Blease kept running behind the man with the ball and tried to dazzle with every possession..he failed. Having said that he did get some of his own ball in the second half. Nicholson and Tappy got a bit of it and Barry impressed in patches. Hunt is learning and Georgio had a poor game.

Caseys problem is they don't seem to play team footy and a lot of the possession were like MFC in the preseason games. A lot of The Lions goals came when we tried to switch and turned it over in dangerous positions.

Thanks Bob, good to know Fitzy is up and about. Would be good to see him get a bit more ruck time with Spencer out.

I'm sure Kent will be pushing up soon enough.

It is nice to see some big numbers from some midfield depth.

I'd argue that Evans, Kent and Michie could well be in our best 22 by season's end.

I'm not as convinced as some on Evans, I think he's a really good VFL level player who will give it his all at AFL level but not quite there. The other 2, I think have a bit more to offer.

Instead of which three players?

If anyone can will themselves to run and present as much as Matt Jones his spot could be open (poor disposal obviously lets him down). I can't see him going anytime soon though, one of the hardest workers in the team

Just got home.

Casey is severely lacking in talls. Fitzy was pretty good. He was moved to the ruck and dominated. But there was no one to kick it to as far as tall forwards go.

The one thing I really took from the game was how much better melbourne players are in close with their hands.

I thought michie and Evans were our best. Mckenzie played well but just lacks any penetration.

Kent got a bit of footy but he turned it over sooooo many times today. I'm a big Kent fan but was frustrated with him today.

Tappscott had some turnovers as well. Blease started really well but tried a bit too much later in the game.

Think of the Richmond game in the preseason. With no one really to kick long to we tried to make kicks that just weren't there.

I saw the 2nd half of the magoos just to see westrupp. He would have had 10 or so possessions as a back who plays tall. He took a good mark down back and almost a huge pack mark near the wing. He didn't turn it over once and created a good amount of run. It's the first time I've seen him in a game and I thought he went ok. Needs to back himself a bit more. Not sure if he can go further but you never know.

Jones is one of few who has leg speed. I would say Evans disposal is worse than Jones.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
