Coburg Lions v Casey Scorpions

Recommended Posts

I wonder if Welsh may have been talking about Jordie when ripping on the players who made mistakes.

35 touches and one would assume bulk tackles/clearances but not in the best?

Glad to see Tappy in the best. I still have faith he can make it as a player.

Well done as well to Kent, sure he will be in sometime shortly after the mid year spell

Well I suppose it depends if you think Toumpas & Salem are going to cement themselves as best 22 by year's end.

And it also depends if you think Evans or Kent are better users of the footy than Matt Jones and whether that means they are better options long term.

Did Strauss play, or have I missed him being injured yet again?

I was keen to see your thoughts. I think Kent is a given due to his combo of speed, hardness and skill. He is also more forward than mid. I would have him ahead of Salem, Riley and Toumpas in that role and well ahead of Byrnes. Evans to me is not in the picture. Michie is the interesting one as to whether he can jump ahead of one of the others. I would say fighting it out with Toumpas and Riley again and possibly M Jones. Clisby is the forgotten man and I rate his talents. We have a hard run of games coming up and it will show where some of them are at. The great thing is we will have legitimate replacement options for those to consider for those who don't perform.

For me Clisby is a straight replacement for Terlich long term.

Terlich's disposal is just too iffy to command that half back running role.

Funny how he smacks our players yet look who he names in the best.. all Melbourne players. Maybe his Casey players need to pull thdir fingers out and stop relying on our players to do all the hard work. Some of our young players are there to just develop their game.

Always said Welsh wasn't the right man for the job and got hounded down a couple of weeks ago.. Reeks of Neeld like qaulities with us public spray on our players.

After reading that diatribe in the Age, (if it is true of course) attributed to Welsh, I would say he is reading from a different song sheet and won't be around next season. Unless there is some good cop bad cop thing going on but I doubt it. I am sure Roos has moved on from rubbishing players in general. Nothing constructive there at all just a whinge about some AFL whingers. .

There is nothing wrong with Welsh's comments, I was there, 2nd half from MFC listed players was poor, with 2 maybe 3 exceptions, Jordie, Fitzy and Michie

If they were that poor then why were the players in the best all Melbourne players? Dont like the public spray one bit. We have gone through that enough as it is with Neeld. Jordie had 35 disposals and didn't get in the best so obviously a poor game.

Our players must think who the F this bloke thinks he is.

Then again you were a big Neeld fan.

So the MFC listed players are whinging to Welsh about why they are not getting a game?

Because that is what he said.

And there is something wrong with airing that out.

from what i have heard he is a rooster smoker of the highest order and that players are much more responsive to comments from brad miller, whether they are melbourne listed or not

Anyone under the faintest of criticism, never fear! Satyriconhome will come to your rescue!

FFS. It doesn't matter if it is correct that they underperformed or not.

It's simply bad coaching to give that reaction. Publicly or otherwise.

Welsh is clearly an amateur and the sooner he is gone, the happier I will be.

For all the 'number' lovers out there.

McKenzie 35 possies = Can't get in the best

Hopefully sheds some light.

'steve' as you know the bests are not always a great indication and as you say numbers aren't either. It depends a lot on who gave them.

Unfortunately for those of us who can't get to the games we have to go on them (numbers and bests) to some extent and reports from posters who were there.

My quote won't work, but considering I sat through the whole game, that gives me the right to express an opinion, again I was disappointed that when the game was on the line only McKenzie and Fitzpatrick gave a yelp, I don't know who was handing out the best, but Tappy was nowhere near, again in my opinion..so DD, rather than personally attack me which is about all you are capable of, come up with something constructive...another example, Blease was excellent in the first half and helped establish the 30 point lead as well as other MFC players, but he went missing in the second half...also take my word for it, Brad Miller was not exactly overjoyed with the 3rd quarter either

How was McKenzie's ball use 'Sat', was he trusting himself to kick the ball?

McKenzie's ball use was good again, I think what disappointed Welsh the most was the Scorps played really well in the first half and had a 30 odd point lead, looked way better than Coburg, then in the second half they went home early, frustration was what you heard in the 3/4 time address, and sheer anger in the newspapers...it will be interesting to read Brett Allison's review this week, as they have been really 'honest' lately

Thanks 'Sat'. I look forward to Brett's reviews, they give a good indication of where a player is at.

Good or bad, it doesn't matter, a coach publicly airing his grievences is a dumb move.

It is exactly what Paul Roos wouldn't do.

If you have an issue, speak to the players behind closed doors, and to the media you say "disappointing outcome, we need to work harder". You don't single our MFC players, when the rest of the Casey players are pretty damn average as well.

Poor move that makes him sound like an idiot.

Why?, we have posters on here constantly bemoaning the 'spin' they hear from the Club and coaches, (that has changed with Roos), but when a coach comes out and launches a broadside at the players, no spin, he is then criticised...or personally attacked by some of the more less constructive in this topic......I don't have a problem with it, assume if Roos does Welsh will be told.

Correct or incorrect, Welsh showed a distinct lack of both tact and control with his response.

If the last 7 years have shown us anything, it is that Welsh's choice of approach is ineffective and shouldn't be tolerated.

2024 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best. He was also inconvenienced by minor niggles later in the season. This was a blow for the club that sorely needed him to fill gaps in the midfield at times as well as to do his best work in defence. Lack of preparation after a problematic preseason prevented Oliver from reaching the high standards set before last year’s hamstring woes. BLOODY BLUES by Meggs

The conclusion to Narrm’s home and away season was the inevitable let down by the bloody Blues  who meekly capitulated to the Bombers.   The 2024 season fixture handicapped the Demons chances from the get-go with Port Adelaide, Brisbane and Essendon advantaged with enough gimme games to ensure a tough road to the finals, especially after a slew of early season injuries to star players cost wins and percentage.     As we strode confidently through the gates of Prin

At the time, he was on his way to many personal honours and the club in strong finals contention.
