Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

I love Terls because he tries. Yes, he has pretty ordinary kicking and not the best of skill, but he tries his best week in and week out, which is why he gets games.

Godfrey, Miller, & Jnr Mac's footy would walk into this team. we let go our hardest workers back then, the real leaders to show the way to be professionals. & we kept the flashy softer ones at that time of rebuild. then recruited more soft ones.

These 2 love the football lifestyle, the girls, the partying, the money. They need to understand they will be finished as footy players very soon if they don't get there #%% together.

they're on that same sylvia treadmill, slow & easy downhill

Watts should be renamed Volts - all potential but no intrinsic energy or power.

Maybe he will find the necessary Amps with a few weeks at Casey - hope so but currently just a flat battery.

I used to think Real Power was measured in Watts. Not anymore!

How have the poor buggers in the twos felt, busting a gut to get promoted

into the seniors only to see Watts waltzing around without a care in the world

getting games before them.

Dropping him will now give them hope that the protected species is now defunct.

Dont know whats wrong with Howe though, his body language has been terrible as well.

Deezee, I'm tipping it's because he has been asked to work hard. Let's face it, for the past few years, any new Melbourne player coming in to the AFL system for the first time, have had a fairly easy ride. While they play to win, they get their pay cheque at the end of each game and turn up to work the following day and do it all over again. They haven't been made accountable, mainly because any time they have been, there's been a player-driven revolt and as a consequence, the bloke setting rules has been sacked. Howe in particular just had a free licence to roam around the half forward flank, take a hanger here and there, kick the odd goal every game or so, and he was a given to be selected.

Now that we've got a coach that most of the players are following the instructions of, and one that we know, win lose or draw, will be here until at least the end of next season, hopefully longer, that what Roos is asking for is what's going to happen.

Unfortunately, it used to be the attitude of the majority of the team that made it hard for the minority. Fortunately now, the attitude of the majority of the team is making it hard for the minority.

The way Roos was talking today looks like Watts will not be dropped to Casey this week.

If I was Jimmy Toumpas I would be feeling a little disheartened. So why is Toumpas not able to keep his spot each week?

Because he got concussed last week, didn't perform yesterday, and was mismanaged badly last year (like every other high potential draft pick we've gotten in the last 5 years).

The reason he was dropped after round 2?

Watts gets 6 rounds +

Jack Watts and Jeremy Howe.

These two need to both be dropped to Casey this week, no exceptions.

They have no confidence, absolutely no defensive pressure (Jack Watts tackling is pathetic) take a leaf out of the first gamer Salem attacking the player, they fade in and out of games, rarely seen in some Qtrs .

They do no present when playing forward and they never push up to make an option.

Paul Roos needs to make a stand and Send them to Casey if this club is to go anywhere.

There are ways to handle players when they are down on form.

Jack Watts probably wont get dropped, but i dont know what the answer is. He needs to find a spark, something to get him going. But i doubt Roos will drop him just yet.

Jeremy Howe will not get dropped, Roos has moved him around a little bit and i reckon hell find him a position and tell him to play that role. Also, he took a couple really good marks, which usually ignites his confidence. I am confident Jeremy will come back and play some really good football.

Neither is going to get dropped, whether that's right or wrong is another story. But i just cant Roosy doing it

The reason is because Toumpas is 20 and just finding his feet at an elite level. Roos putting Toumpas is not about not being good enough, it's about developing key areas that Roos does not feel are at a high enough level yet.

Yet, he will be a gun (i hope) and i think Roos knows that. It is in his best interests to play Toumpas to the point of dominating the VFL, because that will bring him into the AFL raring to go

Credit where it's due, both of them played their roles today. Howe dropping into the hole must have intercepted half a dozen I50's and Watts took the game on a bit more. There still a lot more room for improvement but their efforts were streets ahead of the last fortnight.

reckon he has to relearn a role down back, bit of a kick up the clacker for him.

after a couple of team escapes yesterday,i think i saw a smirk on his face of" im liking this".

once he gets comfortable he will be fine anywhere he plays.

I saw Howe win contests last night - something I've not seen him do before. I mean contests on the ground not in the air. i can only hope that it continues.

  • 2 weeks later...

These two have improved significantly since the Swans game. Last week Howe was getting to contests but electing to spoil instead of mark nd several times he double-fisted the ball directly down to a crumbing Bulldogs player. This week he must've been told to back himself in and take the marks and it was great to seem flying for marks in the backline intercepting long kicksinside-50 - the one in front of Riewoldt was great! Was also great to see him willing to take the game on and push forward, on at least two occasions he was streaming through the middle and delivered the ball inside-50, one almost resulted in a goal but Pedo took a "Howie" on the goal-line. Credit where it's due, yesterday was probably his best game so far for the club, will be great if he can keep this level up once we start playing the top 6-8 teams.

Watts also has improved significantly, yesterday being his best game for the season (yes better than against the Saints). Not the goals kicked (although they were great) but the fact he was tackling with his body and not just throwing his arms out and also fighting for the footy at the bottom of packs. Some have said that he was still caught jogging on occasions however watching him closely his workrate yesterday was exceptional so it wouldn't surprise me if on occasion he was just buggered! He's set the standard now he needs to maintain it. He doesn't have to win the game on his own, he just needs to play his role. I think the high-half forward flank role is best suited for him, he is dangerous around goals and can use his workrate and skills further up the ground to create opportunities. A forward line of Dawes, Watts and Hogan with JKH crumbing is pretty dangerous.

You have to give Roosy the credit, seems to just have a gift for getting the best out of players

I credit him mostly for perseverance, considering Howe was nothing short of awful early in the season. It must be great being a player knowing that once you get in the side, the coach backs you, and if one thing isn't working he'll try another. Being dropped seems to be a last resort.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
