Players to target at the end of the year

Recommended Posts

Wouldn't mind getting zac smith from gc if possible. Would fit the bill for us in targeting another ruck, which was mentioned a while back but can't remember by who. He's got great pace and is, or atleast was when he was drafted, their fastest player over 20m. Greatly athletic. Missed some footy over the past year, so he won't be at his best yet, so now would be the time to try for him as we could possibly get him for less.

...and I would like to get Gary Ablett, out of contract, thought to be the best ever but getting a bit older so maybe we could get him for a mill or there abouts.

In all seriousness Zac Smith is part of the GC future, he is not going anywhere. A Qld kid who is part of the foundation of the club and will be a great player given an injury free run.

I would put Ben Kennedy on the shortlist. Was compared to Boomer as a junior and has a tough midfield to crack into at the Pies.

Well, if someone compared him to Boomer...

But wait, I saw someone compare him to Gysberts, so... Woah, headspin.

The sheer irrelevancy of your posts these days is astounding. I havn't checkef DL in a a while and yet I am not surprised to still be seeing attention seeking posts by you.

Anyway that said, I can see some potential in Lin Jong and he has shown he works hard. I think Roosy could really turn him into a good tall flanker.

Zaharakis. Watching the replay with a cooler head he was even better than I remembered. He just won't accept defeat. He's young, tough, talented, and in a team that is up the creek in a sinking canoe. Essendon are going to need picks, he needs a club to play for, and we have deep pockets.

I'd love to get him, but didn't he just sign until 2017?

Agree that Craig Bird might be worth an offer. 3 year deal at $333,000 per year gets it done. Very good clearance player and goalkicker.

Does it?

How would you know - wages are not released and the cap increases about half a million a year.

Time membrey? Kicked 41 goals in the Neafl so far this year and can't get a game in the swans fwd line. Worth a go at getting him?

Really can't take NEAFL form into account when players are getting high 40's to 60's possessions. Mitch Morton was kicking bags in the same comp.

Besides this the trouble with Membrey is where does he sit, he's too small for a KPP and I don't know if he has what it takes to play high half forward and have a run through the middle. What tricks does he have?

Fair points. But he is pretty much the same size as crameri just doesn't quite have the muscle on him yet. While crameri doesn't set the world on fire, he still does his role and kicks about 2 a game. If membrey could do that then he'd be doing his job, and he wouldn't be getting the first defender in our fwd line. Probably 3rd or 4th best behind Dawes, hogan and possibly Pedersen depending on which position he is played.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but whats the difference between being out of contract and being either a restricted and unrestricted free agent? I understand the difference between the two free agent types but aren't all out of contract players classified as either one of these free agents?

Anyone under 7 years playing is not eligible for free agency. So what happens in this situation is the same as it has been before FA. Hope that helps.

I actually like the look of Paddy Ambrose, very athletic strong young forward at Bombers with no 2012 baggage. Not unlike the young Josh Kennedy the Hawks were trying to mould into a forward!

I think him being overlooked in his first draft, has put him in a very good place for a competitor. he's a beauty.

I made reference to Jarryn Geary in another thread. Fast, neating kicking skills, goes hard at the contest and fills a need in the back half. Oh and free agent I believe. Thoughts?

I think if we're not after him, someone else will be.

Definitely worth a look in.

I'm surprised he's already old enough to be a FA though.

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
