Moore should certainly be on the radar

Posted

Lonergan is the number one target in my book.

183cm, 91kg.

'strong, fearless and skillful.'

He has shown at AFL level that he can perform and would suit us to the ground. At the moment he is in a similar position to Dom Tyson, having had a couple of injuries that have allowed others to move ahead of him at the club.

andrew moore should be a huge target for every victorian-based club,

having a starring season for the port adelaide magpies, in the best three or four times out of the first seven rounds, but can't get a look in with the power at this stage. strong, bid-bodied and with a big kick, he fits the roos' prototype. the one knock on him is defensive intensity, but i'm sure that can be taught.

he actually WAS a big melbourne fan as a kid into the bargain.

Perfectly fits Roos' desire for big-bodied mids.

Would be good to get lonegan for our second rounder, stretch with our third rounder and Moore with our 4th rounder

Pick up Rosa and Goldstein as free agents and brayshaw with our first pick

Both Moore and Lonergan are contracted until the end of 2015. We would be better off targeting out of contract players like O'Rourke and Plowman, who could be traded for at below their full price in terms of picks/players.

Dom Tyson will be our greatests asset in luring these types.

Not only in being in the position as a former teammate to vouch for Roos, his teammates and the club as a whole, but also as a clear example of a fringe player at GWS, not performing amazingly well despite being a high pick, then after a short time under Roos being regarded as one of the best young talents in the game.

Some might recall that in the early rounds an All-Australian Under 21 side was done in the media, probably the HS.

No MFC player featured. I'm sure that'd be quite different today.

At the very least Tyson and Viney would get a guernsey.

I see Sydney have had to Freeze player contracts that finish at the end of the year due to see what happens with COLA..

work your magic Roosy.

Isn't it interesting that there is a subplot at Sydney to do with player payments, on the back of the Buddy/Tippet salary cap absorption

and that our man has strong Sydney connections

very good chance to snatch somebody

liked him when he was in the U-18's. could be a good get.. we need to improve our running mids.

tipped him to go top 10 (long shot) in his draft 2009

actually FT, we need some more players in the 22 - 24 age bracket. he has already been around & would have developed his body.

I'd like the club to target Nate Fyfe... Heard he has put contract talks on hold with Freo (SEN)... Jeez.... Would love to catch a fish like that!! There's no harm in showing interest...

Kyle Martin at Collingwood is another stuck on the rookie list and so far hasn't got a game. Would be another to build depth in the half forward/midfield rotation.

I rate Martin as a player and would cost very little if anything

Great idea. O'Keefe would be a great get, I think he still has a couple years left in him.

In terms of professional footballers, there is no better teachers than Cross and O'Keefe.

I once heard that Daniel Cross used to keep footballs in his cupboards around the house - so when he opens them, he has to always be sharp.

That is going above and beyond, that is the type of guy I want around the club.

As for O'Keefe, apparently he has lived clean for nearly a decade - Ablett like clean - eating the right things, not drinking, doing the one percenters.

That is the type of guy I want our young blokes to learn from.

The more leaders helping Nathan Jones - the better he is getting, the better those around him are getting.

this guy RO'K is approaching 300 AFL games & it's unlikely he'll make the 300 club this year.

I'd really like to see him come over to the Red&Blue as a player for a season, to play some VFL games, & some AFL games, & help out as an on-field teacher. maybe with a view to becoming an assistant coach, or the VFL coach.

Imagine the young recruits, & not so young, listening & learning, playing alongside a 300 game AFL premiership winning star; helping them to develop into mature players.

The guy is a winner thru & thru, & I think we can gain from RO'K helping us out playing an on-field role, not unlike Chappy this year at the Dons. or Daniel Giansiracusa at the Doggies.

Its been a long while since we in Red & Blue had such a Demon profile, playing alongside our kids, guiding them.

# edit: There is 13 Home&Away games left this season, RO'K is currently on 286 games played, with 13 left in 2014 season = 299.

He's unlikely to get all those 13 games, let alone finals games this season... more likely to be around 292-ish ?

We can get him to 300+. & he can help us develop.

I still reckon he'll stay, but use offers as leverage in negotiations. Doesn't mean we shouldn't give it a red hot crack. Won't be out of it until he actually puts pen to paper.

Given how much Roo's has promoted the fact that Fremantle's big mids were a template for our recruiting this year, who better to bring in?

Tom Mitchell - dropped from Swans team since Round 4 got a record 64 touches and 4 goals in the NEAFL on weekend - throw some dollars at the kid!

Luke Parker, David Mackay, Tex Walker, Todd Goldstein, Dayne Beams, a few GWS boys, and Dion Prestia

With Mitch Clark say he wants to come back after a year out can we pick him up again as a free agent or??

Because that wouldn't be bad

sadly, nic nat is off the menu. $4m over 5 years.

$800k a year. his asa's and third party agreements - both of which he'll make back for the club in spaces due to his marketability, but which means they can't pay to others - will mean it easily tops $1m a season.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
