Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

He actually needs 10 or more games in the seniors without fear of being dropped to actually understand his role and feel confident in his abilility. Which is something he hasn't had.

You're surely not suggesting that he plays like a squib because he's afraid of being dropped?

I never said he played like a squib. I'm saying Roos needs to play his best 22 together for as long as he can until it clicks. They all need to get used to the new game plan, and get used to playing together. In 10 weeks time they will be a much better team.

Roh Bail and Cam Pedersen throw themselves in despite not having any guarantee of several games in a row. If anxiety about his future is inhibiting Jack, how come?

He's got superb skills and disposal when he gets an easy possession. He doesn't get the other sort.

I finished watching the replay against the Suns early this morning.

my impressions of Jack W is he's obviously highly skilled & talented, but tries to avoid heavy contact. he tries to steal the ball inside & dash. Outside isn't anywhere near physical enough in a one on one contest.

He's definately worth persisting with, but I would like to see him play a block of games @ Casey to try to get the missing parts of his game into his play.

If he's to play as a starting Mid, I'd like to see him stack on the Kilo's of muscle to have more burst through weight.

If he's to play outside he has to be more vigorous 'one on one', & enjoy the rough & tumble. he needs a lot of work.

just worked my way through 11 pages. Dont have the latin for that

I still dont know. Stats and many games show that Jack is still progressing at above average. This explosion of comment has occurred for the poor game last week but even in this he laid more tackles and did plenty of unnoticed work? than others.

I have seen him present and his teammates ignore his perfectly timed lead to space, I have seen him with the ball looking for a non existing outlet or a teammate offering the next move.

I think he may well be a tad too talented for others around him his intuitive action is often ahead of any one else and they perhaps lack the ability to get the delivery to him accurately.

Other teams do seem to have figured out how to take Jack out of the game and often just keep it away from him it is up to our team to keep him involved. If Jack is then found to be lacking he will fade away. As it is most can his talent and are frustrated that it is not reaping a greater return for our team

I just hope Roos can overcome the problems of Jack and the team. Jack is only part of the problem and may yet prove to be a considerable part of the answer.

I hope Roos can get Jack and the team working together.

I too have noticed this and on many more than an odd occurrence. Makes me wonder why. I know form experience ( as many of us have ) playing in team sports that irrespective of mateship or such if a player is a bit suss in any way they become leppers on the playing field.

Now all Im suggesting is is there some sort of issue that hasnt worked its way to the surface.. I.e players aware and we arent ?

Watts knows hes best in space and makes effort to get to some.. often to no reward. Its damn odd I reckon. hes not a shabby kick after all.

Watt are we missing here

Part of what we're missing is the fact that Jack Watts wilts under the slightest bit of body pressure. He's easy to spoil because he can't hold front spot in a contest.

Well that was my first thoughts as well. But a player in space isnt under the same sort of body on body.

But I hear ya thinking ...

It's like you said; if you see your teammate lose marking contests one-on-one, then that person can subconsiously become almost "leprous"--to the point that you'll avoid kicking the ball to him even when he's wide open.

I noticed this happen to Watts against the Suns when leading, the ball was in our possession on the boundary wing, Watts sort of led from the flank toward a hole inline with the goals. 2 other Dees were advancing near watts but along the boundary. They attracted the footy whilst watts was gesturing why not me.

My first thought, was they don't take Watts seriously as an Option ? Could it be they don't trust him to be able to contest strongly, if the ball hits the deck?

I'd sway towards any of the following:

Passive

Leisurely

Meek

Soft

Actually I think the use of laconic to describe watts is a simple case of dyslexia.

Lethargic was probably the word sought to describe him.

Instead....thought lazy and nearest ic ending word....laconic!

Shat himself once dropped a sitter in front as he expected contact from behind.

Refuses to tackle and run at the player with the ball, content to just corral the opposition.

Not hard enough, probably baulks at his own shadow. Had enough, send him back to Casey til he can prove he's got what it takes to play senior footy.

Watts has to be a waste of space at this club. Anyone who thinks he is a good player, even average is biased or kidding themselves. He cant/wont even be prepared to do the basics; block, run and carry, defend, mark. It's basics you cant teach a player. They either have the hunger or they dont. Despite Watts being contracted, I would play him at VFL for the remainder of the year, ALL year. He needs to make a spot for himself in the team but with non negotables not being followed, im not even sure if he deserves to be listed on the AFL list.

Yep, and I think Roosey has had enough of Watts and maybe Howe as well. There is more to playing footy than trying to only take speckies Jeremy. Our skills are kindergarten stuff. Our desire is pretty much deplorable. Our committment is ............................?

Where is the pride and the passion? Who in our side has the gumption to "gutrun"? Only Jonesy! I am over this attitude problem. Too many players at this club are there just for a pay packet. Earn your money boys! There is no way we will be successful in the next 5 years with this bunch of inept plodders. Time to sweep the place clean and start from scratch. Oh and I do not want these bunnies to utter those infamous words "Stick with us, we are gunna come good soon" ever again.

Back to Watts, if anyone thinks he is a good AFL level footballer then they are sadly very, very poor judges of ability. Only Watts can alter this !!!!!!!!!

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
