Never really noticed before but Dawes is an incredibly cerebral and team oriented footballer. His little tap to Bail everyone will remember, but he is so clever at creating space, running angles to block for team-mates and to open pathways for runners to pick up lose footy. Just a very smar footy brain.

Correct Slick! Dawes is a gun. He will be of real benefit to us if we can keep him fit. And yes ... that tap was a gem.

Smart guy full stop. He has a Law degree that he did part-time while playing and having met him a few times it's clear he is a very intelligent guy. Glad he is finally back out there giving us a contest!

I was sitting directly behind the bench today and what many don't see is Dawes giving advice to our players coming off the ground, and they listen to him with upmost respects. He also, funnily/awesomely enough, was giving crap to the opposition players coming off the ground and those sitting on the bench. Great to see!

He is worth more to us than just shows on field, trust me.

Viney was a bull out there today I absolutely love that kid. Has pretty good disposal as well, drilled a couple of passes inside 50.

And on disposal, you really can't say enough about Nathan Jones and the way he has developed since his debut. Was always a tough player but used to get caught and throw it on the boot too much with up and under kicks. He still gets caught trying to break packs/tackles but generally now because he is trying to find a better option to use. He no longer kicks up and under either, today he drilled a couple of low passes hitting his teammate on the chest. The way he continuously improves on his game, chipping away at his weaknesses makes me proud that he wears the red & navy blue (and sometimes white).

Third thing I told my family (actually only my eldest son - the only one of 3 kids to follow the Dees) - for the first time since they were made by Mitch Robinson and others, today we played like we wanted to avenge the "bruise free" taunts from the Blues. I reckon N Jonesy had a lot to do with that. Just love that Jones Boy.

Its a bloody good start, we need to tackle so that they are not able to free their arms up to dispose of the ball.

We did that often today and were rewarded with free kicks because their players ended up dropping the ball or throwing it. Tackling technique is one of the most under-rated skills in our game.

I think in the 2nd half it improved a lot.

I actually wanna have sex with Nathan Jones, I love him so much. I'm not even joking, and I don't even care.

Kinda know what you mean, in a manly sort of way, but still think this site needs an 'eewww' button.

We had to win this.

No Robinson, Judd, Waite (Thanks Mick), Garlett (Thanks Mick), Tom Bell (Thanks Mick).

Probably the 5 guys I'd pick to have out of the team if we played them. Mel/Mel double half/full time was paying 12/1 before Robinson's withdraw.

Good win and deserved. I thought Richmond (NAB) and St.Kilda were great games from us, but this Carlton side was at its weakest ebb.

Gibbs and Murphy were so overrated it aint funny. Penny is dropping though.

spot on TGR, I'm suspicious of them as well.

but the boot has been removed off our neck now, & we can get up from here.

One of the things that really mattered today was keeping the lead at half time. We looked a bit surprised that we were actually winning and started to go back into our shells just before the break, and it cost us a couple of goals, but we had a fair dinkum coach ready with a plan and some sensible words. There were no jitters after the break and we lifted a notch. Baby steps, but steady ones.

You are not being the realistic/ fun police when saying Bail just jogs around normally, but if you feel the need to apologise, it should be for making such a clueless comment.

Pot his disposal if you want, not his effort

thats the thing that keeps him in the side, his fitness & his running workrate.

I've been a fan over the years but now running out of enthusiasm for him as his decisions with the ball in hand leave me deflated. more than his kicking. maybe its his 2nd guessing, that makes his disposal poor.

self belief is a tough one to teach, for someone with severe self doubts. its a looong job.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form
