Couldn't agree more. As a poster said elsewhere, he's probably our only mid who can genuinely emerge from a pack through sheer brute force and then dispose of the ball cleanly. That's not a knock on Jones, or Tyson, who was down a bit day, but they tend to get caught when they try to force their way through a pack.

Jack's second and third quarters were sensational today.

Good strategy all round. At worse we get 2 c how it works without him on backline as well as turning him into a swingman. If he stays gr8, if he goes the opp will have 2 pay even more and we will hopefully get a reasonable pick.

it also may help us to keep him, raises his value on the market, & best of all, makes our other backs be more responsible prior to next season.

finally we have a coach & his team that to me at least makes sense re developing our players. I expect garland to go forward when back.

Big Jake was spent but willed himself to compete again and again , absolutely spent . well done big man . We tackled well , only stat we were ahead in and played through the middle at times ,won us the game.malthouse/neeld wreckers. Loved vineys purple patch . The carlton maggot that put his 4-20 wrapper in my beer , very lucky i was close to unleashing Rod Grinter style . Happy i didnt . Go Demons.

It's funny, with 3 minutes to go I still thought we'd lose. I had forgotten how to think we might win.

My highlights:

Winning.

Carlton losing.

Jack Viney. He was as elusive as Cyril at times which is refreshing, I'm so over the get it at the stoppage and quickly dispose of it thing. There are times to create your own space, he does it so well.

Chip and Dawes. Chip will be too quick for most CHBs and his disposal was very good.

Dawes is a beast, looks like one, plays like one. Like others have said you won't see many better 8 touch games.

JKH not celebrating his goal because he didn't do the team thing first. We need blokes that get it, he gets it. Will be a gem.

One of the fiercest competitors I've seen in my time watching, he seems to take a step forward each year and is now a player every team in the comp would love to have. I've never wanted any sportsperson to taste success more than this guy, he [censored] deserves some joy for all his efforts.

I know what you men. With six minutes to go Carlton needed only three goals. I found it hard to believe that they wouldn't get them and leave us flattened again. I will try not to doubt the boys in close situations again, but history burns deep into the psyche.

I just re-watched the game (it's not often that you get to see the Dees win twice in 24 hours), and I have to say that yesterday was by far the best game that I've ever seen Rohan Bail play. I've never been much of a fan of his, but his running, tackling, and most surprisingly, disposal, was top notch. Hopefully he can keep this up.

Spencer is another who is a true competitor. Loved his pressure and second efforts, especially for a big man. The effort and intensity that he gave yesterday was something that I can't recall seeing from a Demons ruckman in a long, long time.

Don't forget the game Dunn played today consistent good work all day. His football is getting much better each year, he is proving his detractors poor judges. but then we are, all of us on this side of the fence

So I think your confirming we've been right, except to say that he hasn't got what it takes.. & should be delisted.

Only got to see the last quarter due to work and that was a delayed telecast, my wife unknowingly told me the result so I wasn't as jubilant at the end as I could have been but when the players we re walking toward the race I welled with joy seeing the the faithful cheering the boys off.......fantastic.

One thing I loved today the tackling with Bail 10, Cross 8 , Mckenzie 7, Pedrson and Spencer 5 each was fantastic to watch

Also we bumped blocked scagged and contested all day Simple to say but thats how you start the rebuilding of confidence

Sometimes he still gets caught on the run through hesitation in the middle but it's happening less and less.

Spencer was great in the ruck except that one lapse he had in the 3rd quarter where he didnt go up for the ruck. Loved his ragged doll tackle on Yarran.

How in the hell was that tackle not deemed holding the ball? Yarran was on the run and pencil nailed him!! He didn't dispose at all, it was equivalent to JKH run down tackle in cripps !!

McDonald went back to attacking the ball the last two weeks rather than reacting to what his man is doing. A much improved effort.

Seems he'll always be underrated except in our eyes. Hopefully he'll get more recognition from the AFL before the year is up. He very well may be up there in the brownlow votes by the end of the season.

I'm not sure what you were watching but at the start of the review they said Jones was outstanding and was clearly BOG.

"The day I loved Football Again!!!"

Yesterday is a day I'll never forget. Im 39 years young and have seen many , but I wanted to share my experience albeit doesnt probably do justice of my stirring emotions late yesterday afternoon.

Well it started as an exciting day with me, my wife and son deciding to go to the footy together after 12 months since there last outing when MFC beat GWS. My dad was also coming which in itself is a rare sight. A man who changed from being a Nth supporter in 64 and follow the team that won the flag that year (because all his mates did, at the time to the mighty MFC (NTH win 5 flags after that). So we all packed into the car, full of optimism of just watching a game of attrition and hope that MFC might take the chocolates. Driving down the Eastlink, head of time and then having another 1hr than expected in the car (Accident @! Chandler, No parking at the G, wifes broken foot, getting a 1hr park, and then having to go sit up in 'the heavens' level 4 (im a member, family aint) finally sitting 20min into the 1st qtr, my son asked 'whos winning dad'? i pointed out that we were down by 4 pts but playing well, my wife immediately nudged me to turn back and look at him a few moments later to see some red teary eyes, as he knew something was wrong or did he........?

So at half time, daddy bolts to the car and has to relocate, missing the first 3 mins of the 3rd qtr, thinking I go to almost every match and just couldnt get into the groove with this one, let alone I wanted to be with my family at 1/2 time to have a kick and a play in the G Playground. Albeit we settled into the 3rd qtr, and when KH snapped truly the feelings of rushing to the car, up and down stairs to level 4 were clearly a distant memory and this was the game we couldnt lose. Well you know the rest of it, and the story goes I went from hating the afternoon for everything outside to settling into 'its a grand old flag' holding my son on shoulders high into the heavens singing encores and chanting all the way down the ramp, with smiles from Carlton & MFC supporters alike, very satisfying. i was the one left with tears of joy .. Is my son coming next week..... you betcha!!!!

Just watched the replay, and a few general things stood out:

-- A high proportion (for us) of kicks inside 50 were low, flat and fast. Haven't seen that in ages. Even guys you wouldn't expect (Georgiou, Grimes) were getting in on the action. Probably a combination of having targets they could believe in, and the team growing in confidence as the game went on, but geez it was nice to see.

-- We seemed to really enjoy the physicality, the niggle, the scrag. So often a Carlton player was legally given a little bump after he kicked it, when for years Melbourne sides would have just let him go. Add to that the much improved tackling, and suddenly we looked fierce. Maybe, with the inclusions of Cross, Georgiou, Vince, Spencer, Kent, Viney and JKH (love the way he throws his tiny little frame around), we've reached a tipping point with regard to toughness.

-- Jack Viney has a crazy low centre of gravity. He seems to scoot along the grass, and never goes to ground. Loved the way he'd be the last man standing in a scramble of players, then gather up the ball and bugger off unopposed. And a couple of don't-argues as well!

-- Dawes is captain of the forward line. This was more obvious at the game, but he's constantly advising those around him where and when to set up, and he single-handedly keeps our structure intact. Super important he stays fit.

-- In previous years it's been Carlton's mobile backmen who have torn us up (Simpson, Tuohy, Walker, Yarran), and the defensive efforts to nullify those guys was fantastic. I thought Yarran played okay, but the others were basically unsighted after the first fifteen minutes of the match. In this case, the best defence is a good offence, and the fact Dunn and Bail (in particular) were getting busy across the wings and half-forward line meant those Carlton players were forced to be accountable, and weren't able to provide any dash.

Great job by the whole team, now let's see us back it up next week!

The Number 1 thing I took from this match was with about 5 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter when JKH snapped the goal over his shoulder.

What I saw was;

1 - JKH take a shot over his shoulder and kicked an awesome goal,

2 - Dawes, who was clear about 5 metres away, giving him a MASSIVE spray for not hand-balling to him and having a 90% chance of goaling rather than the 5% option that JKH took.

3 - Little, or no, celebration from JKH in kicking a miraculous goal.

JKH knew that he did the wrong thing. There is no doubt 99% of all other players in the competition would have run around like a headless chook celebrating, but he immediately accepted that he did wrong - incredible maturity from the young bloke.

This just showed me the 'culture' and 'rules' that Roos and the team have set - it's all about the team, not individuals. Love it!

That show is the most painful pile of rubbish I've ever seen.

It perfectly sums up Channel Seven's AFL coverage, more interested in celebrity and social media than presenting a professional sport.
