What i couldnt understand is that pederson seemed to be the main target up forwrad , why him?

Why not Howe out of the square?

They hardly kick it to Howe all night....how on earth could you prefer Pederson as our main forward ahead of Jezza.

Funnily enough, I reckon we can knock of the original steroid users next week.

One of the funniest things ive heard on this forum.....West Coast will smash us by 100 plus.

Blease, Evans and Viney have to be considered for next week. We lacked pace at a lot of times during the match, especially spreading from stoppages. Evans in particular is a seriuosly good kick n the run.

What do we do about Pederson and Tommy Mac?

To those bitching about Howe, he's not - and never will be - a KPF. He's a great marking flanker, and being stuck up there with their first choice defender was never going to work in his favour, especially as it's just too easy for their defence to just manoeuvre him out of position - unless the ball comes in quickly.

Howe needs to be 3rd or 4th in the pecking order in the forward line, floating into the midfield, with some space, and with some big contested mark targets to work with/off/around..

....and the ball on a platter.

Tonight was another demonstration of the challenge with Howe. Aside from the odd MOTY effort, he just does not get enough of the ball. Tough night tonight but it's his perennial issue.

We showed we could possess the footy and were a bit more capable and organised in the back half. We were more competitive around the stoppages but we still allowed too many balls out the back to a +1 or +2 on their defensive side with the easy kick forward or 1 2 handball then a kick forward to a lead up. To me this was a mid field loss against a very depleted and lowly rated mid field. This was the most dissapointing aspect IMO as we know we don't have a forward line and were expecting as much down there performance wise.

I hope we never see Pedo having to play in any position other than HBF off the bench when alternative stocks are non existent. Hurry back Garlo. The same can be said of T MacDonald. Injury aside (ie., prior to injury) i still can't see a quality AFL footballer in any apscet of his game to this point.

Dunn was fabulous down back and Terlich was his usual desperate self but a little hap hazard with his disposal and options.

Grimes tried hard but his disposal turnovers cost as badly.

Trengove showed some good signs but nothing outsanding.

Watts showed some quality and class, creating time and space and many of our attacking opportunities and goal (or shot at goal) assists.

There was a general determination not to give in at any point which was an improvement (but no less satisfactory outcome wise) compared to last year.

Without a decent forward line that can actually kick at least 40% to 50% of shots at goal and players capable of hitting up some decent talls on a lead (if we ever find any that can stay on the park for more than a few games a season) we are toast for 2014 (and beyond if this aspect is not addressed/solved) from what i can see. If we do somehow manage to get a fit Dawes and Hogan on the park for the rest of the season from Round 4 or so then we might see a few wins against lower opposition at the G (and only at the G).

That was our 8th first up loss in a row. and the 9th time in a row we've failed to win a first round. So many records for this club for all the wrong reasons. When will it end i wonder.

Spencer, whilst maybe wining the hit outs, was behind in hit outs to advantage, other than the ruck, he is useless anywhere else. For a bloke who has a big body, he hardly uses it.

I know McDonald got injured, but prior to that, his decision making and disposal were again abhorrent. I don't give a stuff if he can run, if you can't kick and don't know what top do with it, you shouldn't be playing AFL.

Howe was woeful, didn't know what the footy looked like tonight. He is not a midfielder and he is not a KPF. His only role is as a third tall.

However, as much as we stuffed around with the ball with the handball, if we decided to kick the bloody thing a bit more and were more direct, we would've looked much better.

How bad was JKH tonight....lifeless and overawed.

I'm guessing a trip to Casey is on the cards if that continues.

One thing I liked about Roosy's address at the season opening was how clear he was that youngsters were not going to save our club. They may give him another week but I'm pretty sure that if JKH doesn't deliver then he will be playing for Casey. I don't mean that in a vindictive or malicious way either. When young players are down on form or confidence, sometimes it's in their best interests for them to find form in the reserves. Unfortunately, due to our policies of dumping senior players, the kids were the only players we had so they had to stay in the firsts whereupon they would continue to get ground into the dirt.

We are a pathetic and disgusting rabble.

Ive never been so disappointed.....my 12 year old son is shattered....

I thought you said we were going to be better this year Dad?

Youve been saying that every year for the last 6 years.....his whole football supporting life has been a misery so far.

I hate the Demons.

Nat Jones was best for me and Lynden Dunn didn't do a whole lot wrong. Wattsy pretty solid also.

Not sure what Byrnes brings. I would persist with Blease over Byrnes every day of the week.

Hated the result but loved the endeavour! The head hanging which started at half time round one last season was missing which i liked.

It's a long road but we are moving forward imo, which is all I'm asking for.

Are you kidding? Just checking, were you there? I didn't see enough of him in the quarter or two he played to make any judgement. I am open to constructive criticism of his game.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
