AFL House Announcement coming up @ 10 am

Cook understands well the struggles faced by smaller clubs and is in favour of equalisation measures.

And fwiw, some of the better informed minds believe that Gil won't get a look in for the top job.

Gills second in charge for a anonymous footy forum lover you must have friends in high places or your full of garbage, I'm tipping its the second opinion.

"I didn't inject anyone"

what a backhander!!

I thought so too at the time.

So far no one in the media seems to have picked up on it.

Oh well I suppose the day is young from a media sense.

they are probably all off writing AD's epitaph.

I somehow suspect Demetriou won't go far. Perhaps in a couple of years he'll become a non-executive Commissioner of the AFL. There's too much talent there which the AFL should harness. Sure, he has some weaknesses, including his dictatorial style, but the competition is in a far stronger position now than when he started. Wish I could say the same for the MFC.

Well played, Andrew.

Aussie Rules was a lot more enjoyable to watch before AD's time as CEO.

Maintaining the integrity and the spirit of a sport is far more appealing to me than maximising profits and revenue could ever be.

Adios Andrew, hopefully your successor isn't purely focused on cheddar.

Mark Fine went to town on the AFL & Vlad at 7PM tonight on SEN.

The Sydney GW$ living allowance..Brisbane had it till they won 3 flags.

He was highlighting what Mike Fitzpatrick had recently said "GW$ were not tracking as well as expected".

The AFL want these interstate clubs to win flags.

The long suffering Victorian supporters are being duped.

I had to agree. The next CEO has to sort out Victorian football clubs. Etihad Stadium will kill them.

Hope the new CEO gets rid of Sydney's living allowance it's insane that a team can win a flag with over a mil spare in their cap to throw at Tippett and Buddy

AD could well be getting out before the #$^$ hits the fan from ASADA ...

He's there till the end of the year by which time the fan will have been well and truly soiled.

I think his response about him not injecting anyone was a fine repartee to those who seem to want to turn that issue into one of blaming ASADA for the slowness of its processes when it's absolutely clear that whilst the players have given their evidence as best they can, the club they play for might not have been as forthcoming with information as they should be - I refer to their Sergeant Shultz attitude of "ve know nussing".

Probably, but funnier things have happened, especially as the legal wrangling around it is not exactly going to be crisp and clean ...

I hope you're right about Gil, something doesn't sit right with me about him. Has the look of a "salesman" in the worst sense of the word, to slick for his own good.

Cook would be fantastic but I don't know if he has the will to take on the position. Main thing is we need someone who has the will to see through the equalisation policies and make the competition fairer for all.

This makes my blood boil.....GWS played the draft like a stradivarious. They were expected to go for a mix of youth and senior players to make them competitive straight away and with a realistic chance of success within 5 yrs. They said stuff that - and went for the cream of youth anticipating they could build an incredibly talented pool of young players. They might be able to trade some of those players once GWS have been in the system for a few years and are getting competitive. They had a number of years when the AFL would support them come hell or high water and they are taking advantage of that.

If they are tracking worse than the AFL expected its only because of GWSs drafting strategy. They shouldnt be given any more assistance but the AFL are now in it up to their neck. Can't afford it to fail. They will throw money and rule changes at GWS for years to come...

Correct. AD will be be on $3M a year from an international tennis, golf, Olympic, or similar organisation by 2015.

All the muppets on here (and bigfooty) having a sook about him are utterly clueless. He's been an absolute boon for this football code.

Of course they will. For some reason the AFL think it will be a great thing when a Premiership is won in Greater Western Sydney.

But in reality who will care and who will have benefitted?

Demetriou took over as CEO in 2003. He could hardly be held accountable for the success of any specific team over the subsequent two to three years.

Having said that, measuring the success of interstate v Victorian teams by looking at the teams who played in the Grand Final is a rather blunt instrument anyway.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
